2023 Nissan Leaf - DM Review

- The Nissan Leaf is good...in isolation. But there are cheaper cars if you want to save money, and there are better EVs if you want an all-electric experience. The Leaf had its time, but it's time for the Ariya.

Small clarification: The tax credit isn't gone for this car. Both the 2022 and 2023 Nissan Leaf have access to the full tax credit through December 2022
Got a 2020 Leaf this past spring. It’s awesome. Especially when compared to the prices of entry EV models. My knock, the chademo plug. It’s take way too long to quick charge.
Tax Credit Remains for the 2023 and I got a deal on my 2023 Leaf SV Plus, just $299 over MSRP. The beeps can be turned off and are to remind you if you get out of your lane, exceed the speed limits, Auto Lane Keeping is functional or not. The price and the range is good. I have taken many 468 mile one way trips between NY and OH. Just enough charging infrastructure and will get better over time. E-Pedal can be set to retain its setting too. This is just the right size and is very comfortable, and has all the technology I need.
You got ripped off no way I’d pay $37,000 for that . Should have waited til January 1 you could have got it cheaper because no more tax credit my complaints would have been 1. The Chademo charging infrastructure sucks . The range isn’t that good and the interior is well built but isn’t the freshest I would not pay more than $34,000 same as a loaded Chevy Bolt EUV for this .
It is amazing that they are still using chademo
The 23 Leaf Plus will charge at 80kW at a 150kW charger. EA doesn't offer those. It still gets the tax credit. Chademo coverage is still improving. Mitsubishi still uses Chademo on the Outlander.
Wish there were more companies that can upcycle and /or rebuild battery packs. Sourcing, costs and reliability are all needed for the future.
Not the fastest charging or longest range. But it is the safest EV, only one fatality in 13 years. The longest lasting EV, the only EV in America using the NMC532 AG million mile battery. A consistent top EV in reliability and one of the top 20 most reliable cars ever built. KBB lowest cost of 5year ownership.
Very cool statistics!
There are many reasons why all leafs should be given a second life. Even the first generation leaf is a great simple EV. The old batteries need to be taken out and new larger LFP batteries need to be put back in. The leaf is a very well built car. I have driven different EVs including the Bolt and Leaf. The leaf rides better and is quieter at interstate speeds.
The Leaf has a better build quality than the Tesla did. The Tesla has better tech but that is where it stops. I like the simplicity and dependability of the Leaf. I have driven the new Leaf and really like it. I have driven the New Bolt and prefer regen profile in town but out on the open road the Leaf has a better ride quality. Heck even the first gen leaf rides better than the new Bolt on rough roads.
The Leaf needs a liquid cooled battery pack.
About a 1000 new chademo charger locations added every 3 or 4 months.
Great car. I love joy riding my wife's 2020 Leaf. 3 hour joyride yesterday only cost about 20% of her charge. Extremely efficient around town. According n h to recurrent driving data it is more effivientvthan any Tesla model. Great car. I like the Sirus XM and Propilot.
There are things about the Leaf that make it outdated now, but it's also a really solidly built car, fun to drive, and more affordable than most EVs. And right now so much comes down to availability... The Hyundai Ioniq 5, for example, is a nice car but who can actually buy it in North America? We got a Nissan Leaf Plus and like it. Here's our experience: ua-cam.com/video/k_uW7FCbPxw/v-deo.html
Maybe the rain estimate in a Tesla may not be too wrong since it does have an extra 15- 20 mi I think in emergency range when the battery says it's zero!
Beautiful little car! ❤️🔥

0:01 1 second in, and Nissan is already running for the fire extinguishers... ouch!
Studying Efficiency in the Real World
For the Model 3, the median observed efficiency was 3.39 mi/kWh. For the LEAF, the median was 3.71 mi/kWh. That might not look like a huge difference but, for people like us who study electric cars, it was a shock!
Recurrent 500k data point study.
I have 5.4 mi/kWh on my 2013 Leaf.
this surely my next my car as in engalnd petrol prices/ gas prices are goign thru the roof, vs 34p per Kwh for charging .
I like the leaf. But 37k is too much.
There are used ones for around $19k.
Battery is air cooled?
As I am others have mentioned, that is not the motor
Wish they reviewed the SL plus
We don't get the SL Plus.
@@DailyMotor wow I didn’t realize they dropped the SL Plus for 2023. I had almost considered a slightly used one but either way it’s sad to see the lack of competitiveness from Nissan despite the rising popularity of cars like the Bolt. Regardless, great review guys🤙🏽
If your family has multiple cars and hone charging one should be a safe, economical, reliable Leaf.
Whyyyyyy did you make that noise @6:45 😂😂😂😂😂
Nissan Leaf still has full tax credit today at least until March 31st. Then at least half tax credit.
No full one pedal drive 🥲
The tax credit was still available thru 2022. Current tax incentives and rebates (in 2024) take over $10K off the price, 7.5K taken off at point of sale, not on next year's taxes. Your $37K sticker comes down to about $26K. The brakes are definitely "spongy" but I think all of your other reservations/complaints (and there were many) were exaggerated and unfair IMO. You don't have to put the e-Pedal on every time you get in the car, either! There is a "driver assistance" setting to "retain" the setting. Mine is always on e-Pedal. Stop giving untrue information!
Nissan should renew the nissan leaf with better aerodynamics and range.
This car is just too much money for what you get. If I were to buy an EV today, I'd get a Bolt.
The Leaf is better in my opinion because I would worry about the Bolt because of bolt’s battery catching on fire. And With the Leaf not to many Options on charging. But the Leaf sure is a beautiful car Color wise.
Aw poor mid west
the Bolt is a superior car in my opinion. The leaf is pretty stale like most nissans and this one is way overpriced.
