Kylie is pure positivity and joy and beauty and fierceness. That's what I appreciate about her

Kylie means a lot to me as a gay guy for a bunch of reasons. First and foremost, her music and shows always celebrate love, acceptance, and empowerment, and that really speaks to me. Her tunes and infectious energy bring so much joy and help us escape, while also expressing ourselves. It's like she's the soundtrack to many of our gay lives.
Plus, she's been a major ally and supporter of our community for ages. She uses her fame to fight for equal rights and make sure we're seen and included. She's not afraid to share her own journey and experiences as a gay icon, which makes us feel like we belong I guess?
Kylie's got this positive and glamorous image that really stands out. Her fashion choices and bold performances show confidence, strength, and being true to yourself. Remember her Aphrodite tour? The costumes, the feathers, the crazy set and outfits, and the pumping dance/pop music? It's all totally my thing! I mean, who doesn't love a classy but sexy lady who knows how to rock it, while still being demure and not overtly sexual.
And let's not forget that Kylie's always changing up her looks, style, and music. I love that about her. Every era is different and experimental, but she always keeps that essential Kylie flavor and gives her fans what they want.
She’s also. It afraid to juts be camp…the Kylie Christmas shows (one of which was where the first performance here is from) had tones of over the top festive costumes and headpieces - not many pop stars would celebrate their dampness like that.
So yeah, Kylie's a big deal for me as a gay guy. Her music touches my heart, she's always got our back, her glam persona is amazing, and she inspires us to accept ourselves, be proud, and take charge.

I was at the Chicago show. The sound went out in the band’s ear pieces during “Kids” (at one point you could see Kylie and some band members remove an earpiece in order to hear each other). Before they started “In Your Arms” her band leader asked her to kill time so they could sort it out. Kylie chatted a bit and when she was told to stall a little longer she asked the audience for a request. The crowd unanimously cheered “Disco, Disco, Disco!” She told us she was just going to do the first verse, but upon everyone’s excitement she continued the whole song.

Must have been an amazing experience! Her voice is so good on the live performances I've seen - always perfectly clear and on pitch. I haven't heard anything close to a bad note yet!

There are many people who can’t handle her nasal mouse vocals but they most certainly don’t give her enough credit for the hidden talent she keeps to herself. There’s most definitely a reason why she keeps these moments in her tool box. If she had come out as a opera singer, we wouldn’t have seen her as a household name. She’s been able to keep herself floating about on the radio and on the record store shelves just being the pop princess as she’s done for many years but it’s certainly a “real treat” for us fans who get to hear such beautiful operatic tones come out during her live performances. She doesn’t need to show off her talent everyday. We already know that she’s powerful and exudes beauty and she doesn’t have to prove any of it to anyone.

Totally agreed on all this! Bottom line is, if I wanted to listen to the most technically perfect, challenging singing all the time, I'd listen to opera. But I don't- I'm a pop / rock fan and that's where Kylie lives! She can treat us to many other styles but the song always come first

I'm not a big fan, but she is exceptionally talented. We can do Confide in Me (live) with those last really high notes and flawless Vibrato to Falsetto transition, to the very very low and dark Where the Wild Roses Grow with Nick Cave. So technically she has a better range than Christina, but Christina has more power.

Robbie Williams wrote this with Kylie and his longtime collaborator Guy Chambers. Apparently, he persuaded her to go back to her roots and make dance music again (after the Impossible Princess album) using the words "Your disco needs you." She liked it so much that she wanted a song written around that line.
To be fair in every show Kylie has a part where she asks for audience requests. And it's almost always YDNY (unless it's already on that show's set list).
Oh yes, a Kylie tier would be amazing. Count me in.

Fun fact: when Guy Chambers wrote this song, he imagined Kylie on a tank leading an army of gay fans down Oxford Street and used that as the inspiration.

Thank you for another great reaction to Kylie! I love Kylie, she's so wonderful. I'm a bit like you I guess. I really like Kylie but I'm not gay. When I "discovered" her in the late 90s my reaction was that she's really good. She's beautiful and attractive to me. I like that she feels genuine and positive, she doesn't create drama like some other singers. I like that she's very inclusive towards people and celebrate love. I'm not into dance music at all, I'm more of a rock and blues type of person but for some reason Kylie's music speaks to me. I also like that she keeps on evolving and visit different aspects of pop and dance music, she does special versions of songs live and that I like alot too. Too many artists seem to get stuck in the "let's play it like on the album"-mentality and I don't like that.
"Your disco needs you" is a great song I think. Apart from the beat the music and singing is very dramatic and Kylie sings really great on the song. She shows that she has this magical aspect of her voice that she rarely shows in other songs. Let's just say that Kylie knows how to do what's best for a song. Not all singers do that and instead tend to overdo the singing with high register squealing and wailing etc. Moderation is better and show off rarely, that gives a better effect, in my opinion.
My interpretation of the lyrics is that if you substitute the word 'disco' with 'life' it get's more important for me who doesn't dance or go clubbing. Your life needs you, so go out and live it. That is how I have interpreted it since the first time I heard it back in 2000. Rant over 🙂
Looking forward to your next Kylie reaction!

Thank you so much for reacting to the Chicago performance! The reason that this song is such a gay favorite is because the song itself is a nod to the disco group, The Village People. The Village People were gay and had some of the biggest disco hits including "YMCA", "Macho Man", "In The Navy", etc... So this is gay people going crazy over Kylie recognizing and showing appreciation for something that is so dear to our hearts and our memories. BTW... did you ever react to the 10 minute "Confide in Me - Big Brother's Mix"? I know you said you planned to do it.. maybe it's on Patr eon?

This song in particular was huge in Sydney in the 80s 90s and 00 s. You have to understand that the huge gay community was entering yet another a decade into the AIDS crisis. Things were dire. Kylie comes out with this anthemic track and every gay man in the city dance their fears tears trauma and losses away with thus joyful banger!!

I think Kylie was adopted by gay community right from I Should Be So Lucky, a song about unrequited love and fantasy. Kylie was often ridiculed and abused in early years, the community rallied round and supported her, she then repaid that with club bangers from Rhythm Of Love album.
I think Your Disco Needs You resonates as it is a pastiche of some songs by The Village People, especially Go West. The song became a cult classic as the record company were not keen on releasing it as a single as they didn’t want to push Kylie further into ‘an box’ (didn’t understand this either?)
As you can see it is a favourite on her shows.

Being gay and liking certain artists isn't exclusive.
I'm straight and i liked erasure, pet shop boys.have loved kylie since neighbours 85.
This song is a good one for pride month.
Although Kylie's sound is more nasel in the second half of her career i do believe she has more range and her voice is stronger than when she started.
A case of use it or lose it maybe.
    I always loved this song.
So glad you did these two and in that particular order.
Please do get outta my way, timebomb and better the devil you know for a early classic.

It was a single, had the cheapest video though. I think it was the last single released from Light Years and her record label was more on putting money towards the On a Night like This tour and preparing for Fever.

I think I'm same age group as you. The Padam Padam release has triggered me to do a hell of a deep dive of Kylie stuff.
Never realized there is a whole bunch of great music that I've missed out on. I'm particularly shocked by the live stuff.
I went off and read the Wikipedia for "Your Disco Needs You", and saw that the UK didn't have a release because I quote; the song was considered "too gay" and "too camp".
I mean yeah, it does have that vibe. But as a reason to prevent release. Ridiculous.

Why is Kyloe so special to the LGBTQIA+ community. We grew up with her, we supported her through high and low points of her career. She's like everyone's cool big sister. We love Mother Minogue. If you get a chance to review Fever Tour - Confide in Me or Cowboy Style...Keep up the good work
