The Russian word for “stop” is “Oстановка”…
“Oстановка” has the same first 4 letters as “Octagon”.
An “Octagon” in English is a shape that has 8 sides.
Our “Stop signs” are shaped like “Octagons”.
AI says that it’s just a coincidence, but it admits that there’s no specific evidence to support that assertion.
These type of things fascinate me about linguistics.

What happens to отчество when a mother is not sure of baby's father first name? 🤔
She give’s a child her dad’s name as patronymic or leave it blank. So some people actually have only surname and first name as their official name.
Why can’t we start with alphabets, that way we get accustomed to ascents and speak it gradually.
Because the point of my channel is slightly different. I focus on grammar and things that beginners should know after they learned how to read. You can find many other videos where teachers teach Russian alphabet 😊
