I’m just surprised they didn’t put the money into the hobgoblin given how well a really good animated series hobgoblin would sell
Maybe they figured they could max their profits by retooling parts for this figure since people were likely to buy it either way, then, potentially still have room to capitalize by releasing an "updated" version later.
I love how you mentioned that Mary Jane had severe ptsd from venom and it made Peter retire the black suit. So many people forget Peter has a cloth one that he only wears when he's REALLY ticked off (beating the fire lord to near death, beating the kingpin to near death, beating the sin eater to near death). So amazing to see a youtuber know his comics so well
It’s those little touches that make the characters so human!
I love hammerhead. He just looks like a classic mobster. Imagine having a bunch of them with different heads. Youve got yourself a Mafia Family

It looks like it does say “Head” but mirrored so that if he hits something, it will imprint as “HEAD”! At first I couldn’t make that out bc I didn’t realize it was mirrored. Love that detail!

I love how the Shocker’s quilting catches the natural light for the shadows. The face actually has an amazing expression for just a pair of eyes.

I love how you don't cover articulation and still manage to make a nice, lengthy video. I like Shartimus and Robo and dudes like that but holy shit most Marvel legends have the same amount of articulation.

I actually use the Ben Reilly head for Johnny Storm, and the Johnny Storm head for a kitbashed Flash Thompson
It's just a shame about hob gobby. They could've learned from their mistakes to make a better glider but no. Even if they haven't changed the glider they still should've given us a new body mold, Bucky cap mold is just.... no. The rest are just good figures!
It isn't actually the Bucky cap mold, but that Goblin torso they've been using is pretty close and easy to mistake for it. The only thing about it that is better is the sculpt itself looks more like clothes over a muscled torso and usually has a consistent matted look rather than the cheap glossiness of the Bucky cap.
You're right though, with all the improvements they've made to Spider-Man, his main villain deserves better too.

The suited buck on Hammerhead is the same one they're using for Happy in the MCU Ironman 2pack, just painted Blue & pinstriped if I'm not mistaken.

The packaging means nothing to me yet we're paying the same price for these figs as those with BAF parts. I don't get it.

Very entertaining video; Great review - the passion and energy is infectious. Yes I only got Black Spider-Man, Hammerhead and Shocker in this wave and they definitely did not disappoint. I hope we get Dr Octopus, Carnage, Scorpion, Chameleon and Tombstone in the next wave.

@@DisplayingModelBehaviour fun fact dave i know i am late to tell you this but the spider armor mark one haveing less movment is not wrong in the comics peter had troubel dogging attcks he had a hard time moveing to were butterfly joints woulde never happen also anothor fact the suit was destoryed by acid by some villan i dont remeber who.

What's funny is that when seeing the new Hobgoblin figure revealed, I thought the value of the old Hobgoblin would sink, since it's very expensive on Ebay. After seeing how it really looks in person, I doubt the value of the old one will change.

Damn that Hammerhead gives me some nostalgia. I remember getting the Comic Issue that came with the ToyBiz Marvel Legends Human Torch that featured Hammerhead. I do remember him being stockier, but the figure looks so great. Kinda want a exosuit Hammerhead now.

Awesome video as always! I can't wait till this wave hits. From what I understand the Spider Armor Mk. 1 is from Spider-Man PS4. With that said, I'd love to have a Classic Spider-Man with the proportions of the Spider Armor mk.1 as I think it's a perfect balance between the Pizza Spidey and Retro Spidey buck.

It’s a shame they have to cut corners on some figures because of budgeting. I wish they would make every figure unique but I know that’s not financially possible profit wise.

Ironic cuz hobgoblin is the only one thats accurate to his animated counterpart down to the no scales. Should have used a better body, butterfly joints

the only reason to get more hobgoblins are to make more characters, toybiz could be roderick, the old hasbro could be jason, that one with wings could be phil (i think that's his name) and this new one could be ned leeds

I recently acquired the Ben Reilly, and oh boy I do love him
I mean, he's not anything from another world, but he is such a good, simple Spidey figure I just couldn't help it but to love him the moment I took it from the shelf
I was surprised since in my country those kind of waves don't arrive, but hey, now we're getting them! Yay
And btw, the Shocker figure is by far my fav of the wave, but I didn't picked him up since I already have the Sandman Shocker (I would pick him up if I could anyways, lol), he's just so good and simple, but so well done..., Oh man; a black wash will do him a miracle, trust me, but his clean simple yellow look still looks fantastic
I do like the bright colours on the hobgoblin and was really looking forward 2 him but ya he's not the best. He will replace my McFarland demon hobgoblin on my spidy villain shelf and will 100% be finding ways 2 customize him and make him worthy of being the mark hamil version

Yeah... Hobgoblin looks like he missed the mark. Unfortunate. I have Symbiote Spidey and Hammerhead pre-ordered. Thinking I maybe should have done Shocker and Ben too.

Personally the execution of the chainmail on the Goblin figures has never really worked for me that well, it always looks way too modern so I didn't hugely mind it being removed. Same for the gliders, I don't have the previous Hobgoblin but I can tell it's worse than what Green Goblin has, but even the Green Goblin glider isn't all that good, with the hooked boots both of mine still struggle to stay on.
Since I have the Sandman BAF Green Goblin and the retro wave version I'll probably borrow the satchel and glider from the Sandman wave one and give it to this Hobgoblin.
I don't think Hasbro has ever given us a great Goblin character in the Marvel Legends line, I really enjoy the retro Green Goblin but it's still off in places (I guess maybe Demogoblin but I don't have him). They really need alternate hands for more varied poses, the torso range could be a lot better, I think it just needs a complete overhaul. I'd like to see a Goblin body mold with a comparable amount of range to the newer retro Spider-Man, and gliders that aren't flimsy looking pieces of plastic. It's a real shame that they cheapened out on Hobgoblin since they knew he'd be the most popular villain in this wave, he deserved better.
Still, Shocker and Hobgoblin (despite issues you very well pointed out) are must haves for me since classic Spider-Man villains are near and dear to me, and make for one of my favorite displays in my collection, plus I don't have any previous version of either of them. Shocker's lines not being painted doesn't hugely bother me, in the comics they're usually more noticeable but that's a 2-D drawing, they'd have to be a different colour from the yellow of his suit so they could be seen. If they were painted on this I feel they should be a pale brown or tan colour, black would look too distracting to me.
Hammerhead doesn't quite hit that same level of classic to me as Shocker or Hobgoblin, but with how good that figure looks I'll probably get him.
Those are the only 3 for me I'm pretty confident I'll get, I'm trying to cut down on Marvel Legends and one of my new rules is if I already have a character or a particular look, I don't need another. With that the black suit Spider-Man looks a lot better than the older one from the Kraven 2-pack that I have, and my retro classic Spider-Man was pretty underwhelming with sloppy paint and the drop-down hinge at the legs is a bit too floppy on mine, so one leg is always lower than the other. Part of me wants to get that new one simply to have a version of that retro body that I'm happy with that hopefully doesn't have the same issues as that other one I have. The others are easy passes, outside of the black suit I have no connection to other comic looks for Spider-Man.

Your reviews are spot-on, Dave! One thing that I can't understand about we fans and our reaction to all the Retro waves is that they don't include a BAF. Why isn't there more "bad press" about this obvious cash grab? Figs in BAF lines cost the same, or less, than these Retro figs, but when I buy those lines, I receive a "free" BAF. Given that, how can I ever get as excited about a Retro wave? Anyone agree that Retro waves are ripoffs?
