Then you may get an idea how much your own labor is worth. Try opening a shop, see how much small a building costs to buy or rent. Gas heat hydro water electricty, overhead , investing in hundreds of special and expensive bike tools, and bookkeeping and the need for top security . Learn all the nuances and always changing technology and the oxymorinic term "bicycle standards". Then you may start having a clue why bikes arent "cheap". You may then have some respect for those who sell and maintain bikes, keep stuff in stock and have to stock more tire sizes for bikes than cars .
Them shops in the UK apparently invest more in video surveillance and insurance policies than in alarms, quick dispatch, steel gates, bike locks, and junkyard dogs.

This is why manufacturers should push with bycicle serial numbers or frame numbers. So that thieves cannot sell them. Here in the netherlands we have the option to engrave our frames, so that you can register them online when their stolen or not. I've gotten my stolen bike back 3x due to this.

Glass door? The country I'm in, to access that door will need some serious iron welding hardware plus steel cutting tool to make it through a door of a shop this size. It'll take them at least 1 hour to get through the door plus all the noise that will wake the neighbours :)

The smarter way to go about this is to tangle the crap of the bikes and chain them to a rack. It would delay things by a lot. Having a secure store doors/shutters to begin with is also important, this one laughably bad.
