I went in June/July rainy season and it rained for about 10 or 20 minutes everyday. The weather was perfect, even when it rained. It was so lush. But it was mostly warm, sunny weather. Pura vida!
I"m glad that you had a great time. I love the southern Caribbean zone so much.
Im thinking of going in rainy season, much more affordable for flights and accomodation.
I went first of February and the weather was so beautiful, the beaches were glorious especially the Black Beach. Everyone was so nice and helpful I’m 73 went by myself met lifelong friends I’ll always go back
That's so wonderful! I'm glad that you had a good time. Totally agree with you about the black sand beach. Just glorious.
We’re planning a trip this September so this video is super helpful! We’re spending 4 days around La Fortuna and then heading to the Caribbean Coast for 12 days.
I will be taking early retirement and moving to Playa Cocles in July 2021. I've been there twice now and can't wait to call it home!
Oh, wow! Retirement is approaching quickly, too. I've stayed near Cocles and it's one of my favorite little beaches.
It was Siqq today n swell should grow tomorrow. Some lighting strikes in the evening
Curfew on the sand at 2:30 pm
Haha
Really nice video. I live in the states, but born and raised in HEREDIA.
Thank you again for the video
God bless all
LOVED IT!! Been to most of the places you showed and it is one of my favorite spots. Thanks for posting. i will use this video to show my friends the area.
That's great! Thanks for the kind comment.
Thank goodness for UA-cam analytics for bringing your channel to my attention 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻🤙🏻
Local suggest: best time to visit pacific coast is Dec-March. Caribbean from mid Aug - end of Oct. Between those months you’ll find cristaline clear waters, sunny days. During the rest of the year the pacific remains the same just a bit more chances of rain, and not that clear water, in the Caribbean it is always green, but when it’s rainy all the wind currents coming into the country makes the beach very risky, and it gets not only rainy but cold so think it twice!
I am from east coast US looking to travel to the El Remanso lodge in the Osa Peninsula, thank you for your advice
@Manuel Alfaro great advice you’re absolutely right! I used to live in Cahuita and the locals say best time to visit is September or around when you said, nice tip friend!
Loved your video. Funny, but I was born in CR (1944) and came to the USA in 1960 and NEVER visited Limon, until about 5 years ago. I love CR, its culture and nature, "Pura Vida". Thanks again for sharing your experiences.
Thank you. As you can probably tell, I love Costa Rica.
I first visited to do a Spanish immersion program and it was a life-changing experience.
Have you seen Barrio Escalante on the east side of San José lately? One of my friends used to live there in the 80s but they moved out when the area became less attractive for families. Apparently, it was a pretty rough neighborhood for a couple of decades.
Now (well, at least pre-COVID), it's alive with restaurants and bars. There is a cool shop that sells delicious liquor-infused ice cream. Young, ambitious dreamers moved in and built something really cool. It's easily my favorite part of Chepe.
@@chifrijojones Unfortunately I have not been back in 2 years; my wife and I had 2 terrible experiences in San Jose, the Turrialba volcano erupted and the flight was postponed until the next day (not a big deal) and a murder occured that same night, right in front of the house we were staying in with a friend.
Nevertheless, we are planning to go soon, but stay away from San Jose as much as possible. Shalom.
In a country known for it's green initiatives and protection of nature and the environment, Puerto Viejo is probably the "greenest" of them all and is a leader in recycling, preserving habitat for wildlife, vegetarian and vegan food options, and eco and sustainable development.
love it
Loved watching your Cahuita video. I lived there for 7 years back in the 90's. Black Beach and the Reggae Bar were my hangouts, along with Banana's Restaurant a bit north of Black Beach. Back then there were only three phones around, the occasional car and a couple of pick up trucks. There weren't so many people visiting like now. What is now Coco's Bar use to be The Vaz. It was the place to go dancing any time. As far as the rainy season - I loved it, too. Cold and rainy is not so much fun, but warm and rainy I have no complaints about,
Cahuita is a beautiful place with the jungles and all of the wildlife and plant life, the ocean and beaches. So much fruit around. The food I love and still cook Caribbean food often. Enjoy your travels!
Looks like paradise.
We went last couple of days of Aug, first week of Sept 2019 and loved this side of Costa Rica (Cahuita, Puerto Viejo, Manzanillo) and yeah man we ended up at Hot Rocks on my birthday. Funny place for drinks and a mix of live music/karaoke.
September is not a bad time to visit. I’m glad that you had a good time. Hope that you get to back soon. ✌🏼
I am going to PR soon and watching lots of videos. Your video was the best one. Thank you.
Pretty nice. I went to San Jose, & Cartego for 10 days & want to go to the Carribean side next trip, thanks for the video
Great video. I love CR but I've never been too the Caribbean coast yet. It looks awesome, thanks for sharing.
I’m glad that you liked it.
How do you like pacific side and how is it different from Atlantic?
How is the snorkeling and diving there?
@@murket99 I like it. I do a lot of fishing there, I don't dive though. I've snorkeled once but the water clarity was not good due to the rainy season. In the dry season it is better bc there isn't as much runoff from the mountains and the clarity better.
I enjoyed seeing different areas through your lens. I can't wait to visit and experience it for myself. Thank you for showing different angles!
Headed to Costa Rica early next year. Spending one week in Puerto Viejo. I cannot wait 😆😆
I hope that you have a great time!
I truly hope your channel grows exponentially, love the content.
Thank you. That is so nice of you to say.

You’re most welcome.
Music in the back ground is too loud
The video will be more interesting without the background music
Please consider
Thanks
Thank you for sharing the video
So cool your video full of beautiful ecenes and information about the best tourist atraction puravida
1:44 two falls or twin falls, Bri Bri town, they sold coco loco lol but I didnt have one. Great swim though followed by a chocolate tour at the reserve. No walking sticks though
Great video!! I kinda felt like I was listing to a weather report..you have a nice voice! Lol
“In today’s weather…” 😂
Thank you.
I lived in Cahuita in the hippie 70’s truly a hip place.
I can’t even imagine what it was like the 70s. ✌🏼
Black ladies on their rocking chairs on the decks, no paved roads, we had a shack on the beach, all our fruit and Vegs were in the back yard. The four of us were the only white people there for months. The VW van sat in the back yard Rustin till we started it in 1976 and left have not been back since then, fond times!
Very cool. never been on the Caribbean side. Definitely will go next time. Excellent video. Thanks.
Oh, Bill. You have to check out the southern Caribbean. I, at least, *like* almost every part of the country that I have visited. But I loooovvveeee visiting the area around PV & Cahuita.
I'd put the Cahuita National Park and Manzanillo-Gandoca park on your agenda. So beautiful and relatively undeveloped.
you would make the perfect Radio Show Host / announcer . great voice . XLNT Video .
Ha! Thanks.
Barva is awesome! Love this video as I hyave been to most of these places. Love CR and headed back on sunday, Dec 20.
I think that places like Barva and San Rafael de Heredia are often unjustly overlooked as long-term retirement or relocation destinations.
They're higher up the mountain, with nice weather, and on the edge of the GAM, and all of the services and amenities that you get in the city.
Now, about the automobile traffic... :-|
Love love love this video!!!
My girlfriend and I did almost the whole country over six weeks last winter, many highlights however our favorite which we will certainly go back and visit was Montazuma !!
We may have had a little too much fun...if that's possible? Pura Vida everyone !! 🍍 (Fabulous restaurant's and people aswell)
That's totally cool, Fraser. I'm glad that you liked Montezuma. It's on my list of locations about which to make a future video.
Hey I watch a fair amount of UA-cam and your style is on point, you should do more vids!
Thank you. I’m gathering a bunch more material next month in order to make more videos about other parts of the country.
Great video! I live in Playa Avellanas Guanacaste CR Pura Vida 💓
Thanks, Chelsie! These little videos are fun to make. I've heard great things about Playa Avellanas. I hope to make it up that way in 2021. :-)
Pura vida.
Great video thanks for sharing
Thanks, Monique.
I did the same trip last year and visited the Jaguar reserve, which I agree was a huge highlight. Stayed in cahuita and loved Puerto Viejo. Heading back to Jaco next week for a few months. Enjoyed your video and subscribed. Pure Vida.
Hey, thanks for the sub, David. I hope that you enjoy Jacó.
For the first years that I was in Costa Rica, I avoided Jacó because I always heard people (ticos and foreigners) talk bad about it. They said that it was overly commercial with a full share of Vegas-like debauchery.
When I finally got around to actually visiting, I didn't see any of that. I'm guessing that if a person was looking for it, then could find it, but it wasn't like people were doing bumps out on the street, or handing out flyers like they do in Vegas.
I get why people criticize Jacó in comparison to more rustic beach towns. I love them. But, man, sometimes after a long day of adventuring, it's nice to stay in a luxurious condo on the beach, with city amenities and plenty of options.
You guys are awesome! Thank you!!!
Thanks for the kind words.
Awesome video, thank you for loving our country (your country) and showing it to the world.
It is my pleasure. Thanks for the kind comment.
Aeesome video
Was thinking of going to Puerto Viejo at the end of November (26) into December (3)You think it will be super rainy? Thanks
Was this footage in August ? Loved the video thank you!
That clip of the sloth reminds me of my roommate. That's about the speed he moves...
Hopefully he’s as cute as a sloth.
The best patty you'll find is at a little restaurant in the Cahuita MEPE bus station, sabroso! I lived on playa grande for a couple years in Cahuita...
I’m going to have to check that out. Thanks for the recommendation.
@@chifrijojones Sure you bet, nice people and killer patty. If you haven't gotten down to Manzanillo or Gandoca yet, both beautiful spots and head to Sixaola where you can pop into Panama for the day, Changuinola has good cheap shopping and Bocas is a short bus and water taxi ride too. Saludos
That’s my sister, Ivy! She loved working and living there!
She was a great guide! I hope that all is well with her.
your sister really looks as a happy girl 😄 love from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
her Spanish is perfect too
Thanks for the video..lived there for 2 years in the 70s..miss everything about CR.
Have you been to OSA Peninsula?
I haven't spent as much time on the southern zone as I'd like. I've heard that Drake Bay is amazing.
Your Spanish is funny bro, porahora had me shitting myself. Not a criticism as in general you speak well !! Amazing video of this beautiful part of the world. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Leo. I’ve worked hard to improve my Spanish. And, yes, funny stuff inadvertently comes out of my mouth pretty regularly. 😂 It’s all good.
There was a time earlier in my studies when I struggled pronouncing some “r” sounds. For example, the middle “r” in cargar. No matter how hard I tried when I tried to say something like, “tengo que cargar mi teléfono,” I dropped that middle “r” and it came out,”tengo que cagar mi teléfono.”
Talk about people laughing. 😂🤣
Nice .🇨🇷👌i miss that eagle (imperial)
I enjoy a cold bottle myself with some ceviche (or of course some chifrijo).
@@chifrijojones oh my god definitely chifrijo yes , 👌 on December I will be there 🙏🥂
Rain is amazing..... Im just so scared of mold because of the high humidity
I didn't catch it in the video, what month was this footage shot? I'm planning a trip for the first week of August to Cahuita.
It was the end of June.
We only have time this late august? Is it similar weather as what you showing in the video?
I am not sure about August.
Going on a cruise ship in February 2024. Limon is one of our stops. Will the animal rescue be open
Most likely yes. You can reach out to them via their website at www.jaguarrescue.foundation/
Chifrijo is a food that is served in many restaurants in Costa Rica
It's one of my favorite foods.
They have tuk tuks in Nosara, Guanacaste
No mention of the black minority in the area, the ones who came to build the railroad from Jamaica and who were banned from going to the Central valley till 1935 then they kept their traditions in the area
You should check out my video about Puerto Limón. It touches more on that topic.
Thanks for sharing. Could you please advise wicu side of Costa Rica better for swimming and snorkeling.
Also would it be North of South.
Is it possible to get by with just English in suburban areas?
The East coast, Caribbean side is clear water for snorkeling but is not well developed. The West coast has waves for surfing and more developed but much more expensive and the water is very murky. You can swim on either side. You will need to know Spanish outside of San Jose, and through most of the capital as well. My last time I was there, it has become much more expensive equal to any tourist spot in the US. I won't be going back because most of the charm has been replace with rip offs and thievery. Sorry to report that. The country side is beautiful but be very wary of reckless drivers. Take the big buses for travel not the small more expensive ones. The big buses still pass on blind curves on two lane roads. If you rent a car, be prepared to pay BIGLY. The gas is expensive too.
What was the whole mask situation like over there?
Were heavy restrictions enforced or were people left to be free?
Right now there aren't any mask requirements except maybe in medical facilities. I just spent a few weeks in the Central Pacific and Central Valley and didn't see hardly anyone wearing them.
How is December? Is it sill the rainy season? I wanna go to La Fortuna, Rio Celeste, Jaco, and Manuel Antonio. Should I get a rental or I can use buses and taxis?
In the Caribbean, “rainy” season can seem like the whole year. In Jacó and Manuel Antonio, the rainy is normally ending as we get into December. It’ll probably be over in La Fortuna and the Arenal area.
Please keep in mind that during rainy season it doesn’t always rain. It can rain hard and long but normally there is just a nice afternoon shower. And, during dry season, there can be some rain. The seasons aren’t 100% one way or the other.
I’m in Heredia right now, and the weather was mainly just cloudy yesterday.
We are planning a trip here 2nd week of September this year. Apparently this is the “on-season” but it’s also the highest risked month for Caribbean hurricanes. What are your thoughts??
I’m not at all a meteorologist, so there are many others more qualified to speak about this. However, it’s my understanding and experience that strong deadly hurricanes rarely directly hit land in the southern Caribbean zone of Costa Rica.
Apparently, hurricanes don’t form between five degrees of latitude of the equator. Also, northern hemisphere hurricanes almost always move northwest.
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is at 9.6 degrees from the equator. This means that Atlantic hurricanes tend to pass north of the southern Caribbean zone.
The likelihood of a hurricane causing you any serious trouble is very low. If indeed your trip is impacted by a hurricane, it will most likely be indirect, from a hurricane that passes to the north.
I hope that you enjoy your trip.
Thinking of going in late October. It may be a bit wet but Temps are warm? Is there a good stop between the airport and puerto Viejo for an overnight stop? Thx
It’s almost always relatively warm. Right now, the area has been inundated by significant floods, so much so that the road from Limón to PV is closed.
I’m sure that there are places to spend a night between the airport and PV. Maybe someone reading this is aware of a place. For me, if I was flying in to SJO in the afternoon, I’d stay the night near the airport and then depart for PV early in the morning. The sun starts to break around 5:30 and it’ll be plenty bright to drive by 6am. Assuming no road problems (which can be a big assumption) you’ll roll into PV around 11am or so.
I love the Caribbean side of CR, but you have to be ready to go with the flow and roll with the punches when it comes to infrastructure. They’re building a new highway which will connect the Central Valley to Limón, that will supposedly make it much easier to travel between the two. It’s not done yet.
I hope that you have fun on your trip.
The Costa Rican Caribean does not have a dry season All year rains
You forgot to visit the Cahuita National Park...?
JUST FOUND OUT that "Outback Jacks" - a rowdy landmark in Puerto Viejo - had closed down (2018) ! Don't know the details - can anyone enlighten us ?

I want to move there but I would need to find employment. Is it possible to find something to support myself my retirement is only 500 US a month. I’d love to work in a zoo or nature center. Is the possibility there.
That’s probably not feasible. Even before the pandemic, unemployment was high. Now, more than one in five ticos are unemployed.
There is also the legal aspect, about which I’m not an expert.
Most of the working English-speaking expats that I know in Costa Rica work remotely for companies and organizations in their country of origin.
Sorry if that’s not answer that you were hoping for, but it’s the truth as I know it.
Nosara has a lot of coco taxis.just an FYI.
That's good to know. I've spent a good amount of time in Sámara but not much in Nosara. Do you recommend it?
