    Thank you for the vid! Very interesting and I gotta say that I find in you and in your channel a very sane way to approach craftsmanship and axes in general.
    Props!

    My opinion on building a good axe is to do it how you want its your axe. I love the axe community and want us all to be closer, not at odds with each other. I'm definitely an OG fan. I remember and subscribed your first video. I use axes every single day.

    Dan Dustin is amazing. Just getting into the video. I love these discussion videos. As for salesmen/marketers. I find it disturbing how many people believe what they're told when someone is trying to make money off of them.

    Thanks for the video. Overall i really enjoy the axe community and have participated in the Cordwood Challenge for the last 4 years. I think you should definitely give it a try one year, the hewing mini challenge seems to be right up your alley !

    Speaking of Plumb Nationals - I just scored a 4# national and my lord is it amazing. It is def a rafter axe that plumb wanted to be used as an all around axe! Amazing and by far, my favorite (along with rafters and Hudson bays)

    I like to think that the hewn beam finish topic came up due to the short discussion we had on goosewing axes a couple days ago ^^

    • @urbanlumberjack
      @urbanlumberjack  2 місяці тому +1

      I remember that! Very applicable to parts of the United States, too, goose winning axes were the predominant style in much of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and other parts of the Northeast.
      What I would give to go back in time and see how those guys hewed their beams. There’s a business not too far from me that sells salvaged barn, beams, and I’ve been able to study a few. Incredible work

    That axe oil looks awesome! I think 25 gallons to 1 quart would be 100:1 though. Thanks for all the great axe info!

      Oh, you’re right, I’ll fire my editor for letting that slip. I have trouble with math on a good day but add a head cold and I should really just use a calculator 😂

    Tannins were used to tan animal hides and leather goods back in the day.

      Veg tanned leather is awesome. In my area a lot of guys would harvest bark for tanning to pay taxes. One of the few sources of cash money they had

    Just like pleatherman and their sub par quality 275$ multi tool. U can get a Chinese one nearly just as good for 50$.

      Wow! What a price tag. I am pretty frustrated with some American industries because I feel like the price is going up as fast as the quality is going down.

    Bro u have to quit going to the dr and trying to stop your natural detox ( cold, flu)

    • @urbanlumberjack
      @urbanlumberjack  2 місяці тому +1

      How does one do this?

    • @jimmylarge1148
      @jimmylarge1148 2 місяці тому

      @ ride it out! Your body is naturally detoxing from something you’ve come across in your environment. Nothing is better at healing the body than the body. It’s “sick” for a reason and it will take care of the issue if u don’t take meds, kill the fever that’s baking off whatever toxin your body wants rid of. Modern injury medicine is miraculous. Modern dis-ease medicine is ONLY trying to sell u pills that do nothing but give u another symptom u should get a different pill to fix and on and on. It’s not a dead alive bug flying around the air just hoping it can touch your eye or fly up your nose. That’s all 1000% bs.

    Great vid! Good discussion and good on ya for sending out the oil and blank to your mate. Also, ive never owned one but the National pattern is almost the perfect allrounder axe i reckon. Council Tool should make a line of Flying Fox type patterns in weights of 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, and maybe 4lb to fill the void and carry the design between the Flying Fox and the 5lb splitter with the hardened poll.

    • @urbanlumberjack
      @urbanlumberjack  2 місяці тому

      That would be an awesome idea! The flying fox is a great design, could absolutely be wonderful at a bunch of different weights.
