I think is was in Miles’ autobiography that he said the thing that attracted him to Trane’s playing was the way Trane’s lines would often erupt in surprising ways. We can hear some great examples of those moments (2:29, 3:00) in this fine cut. He also uses his emerging “sheets of sound” cascade of harmonies (2:47) to great affect and, of course, those legato 1/8th note lines (solo break 1:25 & 1:36) that groove like hell!
