Reading all the comments has made me realize that I’m not alone. Recently I discovered that I had went from severe to profound hearing loss and I was sad because I could no longer hear everything like I used to. I wear my hearing aid my whole life so I’m grateful that I still able to wear a newer hearing aid with better sound quality and it will have a Bluetooth. Trusting god that everything will be ok. ❤️🙏🏾

I'm 71 and have profound hearing loss and have used hearing aids since I was 38 years old.
I usually get a new set about every 3 years as that is the earliest my insurance will go for it.
I was lucky enough to get a set of Phonak Paradise Hearing aids in early Dec 8, 2020 as my early Christmas present.
They are the P90 version with in the ear molds, rechargeable batteries and I did write an early review when Dr. Cliff did one of his videos reviews.
I have worn the Paradise now for over 5 months I must say I'm still super happen on how well I can hear things better, clearer and even hear things that my previous HA were not able to hear clearly. With my previous HA's I had difficulty hearing noises outside and unable identify them I would have to ask my wife what is that sound because it wasn't understandable on my old HA's.
With the Paradise P90's everything is so clear it's amazing how much I now hear. I can say they are amazing on what the new processor and programing can do which make my life more manageable.
I use the bluetooth a lot with my cell phone, PC and TV streaming. But actually now much less on the PC and TV because I can clearly hear the speakers much better.
I do like the tap control but it does take some practice on how and where you tap your ear. Answering the phone is really easy as well as hanging up.
I wear my HA's about 15 to 18 hours a day and average has shown on the App about 14.3 hrs. daily since I started wearing them last Dec.
Batteries have been holding up very well and recharge quickly to 100% in a short time if needed for long days if needed.
Most of the time the over night charge is plenty for a 18 hour day with limited streaming.
The App is OK and I use it mostly when I'm out in a crowded area like a restaurant and manages echoed sound well so I can hear the people at the table better.
Some days when I'm streaming a lot I can see the batteries are getting down a bit more than usual and if I need to stay up until 11PM I can place them in the charger in the afternoon for an hour or less and they are good to go for late nights.
I have taken the batteries down to 10% after heavy streaming (6-8 hrs) and they will beep to tell me they need a quick charge or its time for bed. lol
This is part of learning how well they last for you. I consider myself as a power user and you may not be like me with 18 plus hour days.
If I take a short nap 30-45 minutes I place my HA's in the charger and they quickly recharge back up to 100% in less than an hour.
I can not tell you how much these HA's have enhanced my daily life and my daily wellbeing.
I definitely think I'm a happier more pleasant person to be around but at 71 years young I still can be a bear at times.
All I can say now after 5 months of use they are great, reliable and the rechargeable batteries hold up very well for long days.
The new processor and programming inside is much more superior to previous HA's I have had.

@@fazalniyazmogral4748 my hearing lost is profound in both ears. I don't have exact numbers but I'm unable to understand anyone speech without them unless I'm within a foot of their face.
The Paradise P90's I have hard ear molds and these HAs have made my life much more enjoyable as I can understand almost all speech even at extreme distances.
Speech is 100% better and clearer than my past HAs which were Marvels
I can hear my neighbor clearly saying hi from across the street.
Everyones hearing loss is different but I wear these on an average 15 to 16 hours a day and they are with rechargeabale batteries.
I have over the past7 months of use had to pop them in the charger when I take a short nap around (30-45minutes) and I can easily go past midnight If I ever stayed up that late. LOL
All positive here and they are so good I do not need any other device to listen to TV and my partners volumn level.

I as really excited to hear what you had to say on this until I realized it was mainly a sponsored ad for a hearing aid company that did me wrong. I don’t doubt they work great for a lot of people, but I do have severe/profound loss and they were useless. The entire trial I had nothing but problems from the fit, feedback, gunshot noises from my kitchen when I was in the next room, and for some reason the hearing aids kept prioritizing the sound of the tv in the living room and cutting off all conversation! It just kept putting the TV noise louder and louder. At once point I had it so low it sounded normal to me but my family could barely hear it. I’m steering clear of Phonak for good. They refused to accept that *just maybe* I had a pair of dud hearing aids. I would love to hear about other brands and what they offer for this type of loss, as every website I look up trying to research a new pair is so convoluted. Just give me the information not a ten minute scroll through giant pictures with one sentence each. -Signed a very frustrated 38 year old mom who just wants to hear her kids again without having to ask every other sentence what they said. /end rant and thank you for your videos.
Who were you working with? Phonak would have gladly given you an exchange. That's on the provider not the manufacturer.
I have a perfound hearing loss and the Phonak Nadia UP hearing aids are by far the best improved heaing devices I have used with 30 years of hearing aid use.
@@DrCliffAuD I went with Oticon X ceed Ultrapower hearing aids now because my Audiologist has them and they are supposed to have the most amplification possible and power right now and I need something to separate the sounds of speech from background sounds and amplify it enough to hear some of it so do you think Xceeds are better than Phonak Ultrapower hearing aids for that?

What you are telling Doctor Cliff about is another reason why I am getting Oticon X ceed Ultrapower hearing aids this time so I can connect my phone and IPAD and tv right to my hearing aids. I think I will be able to hear it better if the sounds go directly into my hearing aids and then I can amplify it with all of my amplification to hear it . Otherwise I have background sounds getting in the way of me hearing it. I was at the Doctor the other day in the waiting room and there were people talking in back of me and a lot of people and whatever other sounds that were there and I went by the tv so maybe I could hear it but I could not hear it because of the background sounds must have been higher or blending into the tv sound too much for me and I thought if I was able to connect my hearing aids to the tv and then amplify it enough I could hear it so I know what you mean about that. You need to amplify just what you need to hear and not everything else if you are somewhere with a lot of sounds and noise around me and the waiting room was like that for me so you have no way to focus on the sounds you need to hear. A woman who worked at the check-in desk came over to me with the questions she had to ask me on a piece of paper and I read them and that helped a lot because even if you only hear parts of it you can read the rest.

Dr. Cliff, I have a severe to profound hearing loss, and the technology is pretty amazing. The problem is, my hearing keeps worsening. My audiologist told me a couple years ago that I'm not quite at the level of needing cochlear implants, but that I might not be too far away, either. I was wondering if you could make (or already have made) a video explaining the signs that one is a candidate for cochlear implants, and also just about the implants in general.
U bought any aids yet? If yes is there any difference?
Be careful if you decide to do that because the surgery is irreversible.
@@GarvBhargav Not yet. My current warranty and service package expires this summer, so I'll be switching audiologists and weighing options then.
@@Ricky-kb9ey So I've heard. I would only go cochlear if I had the procedure recommended by an audiologist -- maybe with a 2nd opinion, just to be sure. The last time I consulted about cochlear implants, I spoke with 3 different audiologists. One said I was borderline, and the other two said no.

Hello Doctor, How you doing? It has been awhile, Is this option a good option for SSHL? Someone has normal in one ear and severe/profound in the other. Just curious It has been 3 years since my 16 year old had this SSHL, she’s even contemplating getting the CI in the near future just waiting for something better. Strange I have always been told I cannot have in the ear aids because they R Not strong enough , wish I was yr videos a couple of years ago 😥
I have severe to profound loss, but fortunately it's in the 1000Hz+ frequencies so mainly just high pitched hearing. I just got the new Kirkland Signature 10's last week and they're working very well to pull those frequencies in without any accessories. I imagine the newer Phonak Paradise series would have similar performance since the two models are very similar.
The new Samsung S21 series phones also have a background amplifier feature for hearing aids that works better than the profiles in the hearing aid app. Very handy for restaurants and loud areas...lets me focus on a particular sound/voice. Great for restaurants :)

It was been suggested to me that the only treatment for him to start speaking is a cochlear implant but I couldn't afford that, please how much is this product?

As someone who is dependent on my HAs, bluetooth really does make all the difference! Phonak is a great brand. Now i have signia motion 13p HAs with Streamline Mic and Streamline TV to stream audio from phone and tv directly to my HAs so i get more clarity. Now i am so much more comfortable with hearing phone calls. HAs are only complete with built in Bluetooth connectivity 🙂
On of the things I have noticed. With behind the ear hearing aids and covid-19. Is having to ware a mask and taking it on and off.
It can be a pain to make sure you hearing aids stay on. It is very easy to pull the off you and you have to look to see where they drop.
Unfortunately I tried the UP Paradise and they did not work out for me, the dual bluetooth didn't function well either. I found my simple NHS Siemens aids still produce a much better sound quality, the only downside is that I still have to wear the EasyTek neck loop.
Does any other brand compare to phonak's solutions for severe to profound loss?
Good video Cliff I am trying to decide between the Phonak Audio Paradise and the Phonak Audio Life P90.
I have severe to profound hearing Loss but only thing I see the difference is P90 is waterproof and size may be tad larger.

As someone with Severe to Profound hearing loss, I so heartily agree with your first three points. Even though my hearing aid is waterproof, my audiologist recommended I don't push it (e.g. don't wear it when running, try to protect it from the rain, etc.) I want my hearing aid to last as long as possible, so will treat it right. And yes, the Bluetooth was a game changer for sure! Especially since I got it when the pandemic started. Teleconferences are a royal pain when having to hold the phone up to the ear for hours. When I got the new aid and Bluetooth (wasn't a Phonak, not that there's anything wrong with them), I was amazed at how clearly I could hear on the phone, and how convenient it was to have both hands free during the meetings.
My hearing experience is transformed with Bluetooth, and i have been wearing HAs all my life

Phonak you rock!! I'm excited to get my new hearing aids. I presently have aids that are not digital and I'm severe to profound. I'm getting so excited soon. The analog Phonak aids that I presently have are 20 years old and are no longer working consistently.

I am not.. Nor ever was a fan of the Phonak sound... I'm all in on Oticon... Oticon just has a bigger , fatter more realistic sound... Phonak is just too soft sounding and theres very little air or bass response.. Especially being a musician.. I'm all about bottom end. I tried the Phonak Audeo... I was less than impressed with it... It sounded like complete garbage to me no matter what adjustment was made... My old Ria2 plus still sounds better...
I had a similar experience with the phonak aids. I had multiple audiologist try to get them to sound right and they never worked. I’m still waiting for a perfect solution, but I’m skeptical that Phonak would ever work for me after that experience!

Among Paradise, we have only Audeo and Naida...
I prefer BTE, even if I am about to buy my first hearing aids....
Naida is to strong for left ear...
So, choice is between Marvel Sky and Audeo Paradise...

Hi Dr Cliff,my Son 5 Years lost his Hearing in both ears last November following a Mumps infection and he was deemed a candidate for Cochlear Implant Surgery but we dont have money yet for Surgery,is there any Hearing Aid you know of that might be of help as we raise money for CI?

Depends on who is fitting and programming them. If it isn't a fantastic hearing care professional who follows Best Practices, then it won't matter which one you get.
I am in a unique situation. Looking for recommendations for a hearing aid for my 31 year old son, Locked-In Syndrome, fully paralyzed but alert. Profound hearing loss. Currently uses Bose headset audiophones to listen to his tablet. Volume on high and can barely hear.
Thinking it needs bluetooth, no need for long battery life or travel needs, and no need for complicated adjustment capabilities. Just solid amplification.
He is bedridden and cannot travel. Plus we are in Costa Rica so there is limited options here for hearing aids or home exams.
Suggestions?
I have severe SSHL in my left ear and profound in my right ear, at least in terms of the decibel loss. Aids have helped the left but unfortunately the decibel loss in the right (90) is coupled with a word recognition score of 12%. It always sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks underwater in my right ear. Both my ENT and audiologist say that, because my left ear is ok with aids, I don’t qualify for a cochlear implant. So I muddle through.
Ask your ENT about a bone anchored hearing aid.
I have a SSNL in left ear and have a severe to profound hearing loss. So please sugeest me that RIC will work or not in my case
@@ayushagrawal2905 a RIC could work in your case but a BTE will really have more power for a severe loss. Do you like the look of a RIC more?

An audiologist let me try the Phonak Nadia and Paradise, but I found them to be horrible. The Paradise was simply not strong enough, but as for the Nadia ...
No matter how she changes the settings, I still occasionally hear vibrato sounds, of which she calls robotic sounds. Sometimes it's my own voice, sometimes its others. Not only that, the Bluetooth connectivity is pretty bad. The sound quality from Bluetooth is actually amazing, even having movies sound like I am there at the movie theater. The issue is that it will randomly connect to devices I connected to before. It connects to my phone the moment I turn them on. It would connect to my Nintendo Switch when my kid is playing it, and it did it as I was just walking by.
I've been looking into other brands, but some websites won't actually tell you if they support Profound hearing loss, or any really. They basically assume that they will work for anyone. Some of the brands I have been looking into are Signia, Resound, Unitron, and Widex. Specifically, I'm looking into Signia Pure Nx and 312 Nx, Resound ENZO Q, and Unitron Stride B-UP (maybe).
If you could look into these and find some information about them, that would be great! Everyone wants you to contact them for more information by calling ... really? I need hearing aids 'cause I can't hear and you want me to call you so we can talk over the phone? Some people.
I'm thoroughly confused after going to an ENT and Miracle Ear. I have profound hearing loss in my right ear, and moderate in my left ear. The ENT/Audiologist I went to said I'll need a bicros solution. The Miracle Ear audiologist said I could actually use regular hearing aids, recommending their top of the line RIC hearing aid. So who am I to believe.
Okay I have a profound hearing (SSHL) loss in one ear and the other is normal. I tried two different cros systems and they don’t work for me. I can’t stand the sound all in one ear. It’s like playing two different songs or podcasts through one speaker in a gymnasium. Super exhausting. I asked if I could just get a hearing aide for the one ear that needs it. The audiologist to me they would have to amplify the sound so much that it would cause additional harm to my ear. Do you think the audiologist is blowing smoke, doesn’t know what they are doing, or is accurate?
Ironically, I just got the external microphone yesterday for my Widex hearing aids. People with masks behind plexiglass... Doesn't work. My hearing loss is severe for high frequencies.
My hearing loss is severe to profound too , I just got starkey evolve ai hearing aids power plus . Their amazing I remember the days where I could hear I can hear sirens 🚨.I live in the city so I need to hear traffic and cars . I’m also visually impaired and use a cane . Phonak is trash.
My mom tried thier top of the line hearing aid and barely gave her anything, she is still using her old 10 yr old Rexton cause it's still better than phonak, also with Phonak u cannot use regular telephones.
Audiologist kept telling her you need to use Bluetooth phones etc.. but I see her everyday using her Rexton device with the normal phone.
I currently wear p90’s RIC and they are maxed out on power in high frequencies. Would I benefit from super power BET aids ?
Do you already have an Ultra Power Receiver on your RICs?
@@DrCliffAuD yea I have a power receiver. I’m not sure it’s an ultra my understanding when purchasing that 90 db was phonaks maximum output receiver and Oticon went to 105 but the sound quality for me was better with phonak. Since that purchase my left word recognition scores have dropped. I had an MRI to check for other problems but they came out clear

I'm interested in how long bluetooth sound can be streamed from a charging Hearing Aid, more precisely the Naida version of a hearing aid if someone has a hearing impairment of up to 105 dB.
I would like to know this information before buying, because bluetooth is important to me, I can't put it in the charger during the day because I can't hear without it.
Try to imagine that I have a job that requires frequent phone calls, I also like to listen to music in my free time. So I'm interested in how long a rechargeable hearing aid can last :)
I only have severe to profound hearing loss in one ear caused by eustachian tube dysfunction.
I have a severe loss and have had Phonak in the past. Certainly an improvement over my previous aids, but time for a change after 8 years with the Phonak Audeos. Went with Widex Moment because they were going to have Bluetooth low energy connectivity with Android by Fall 2020. Well, here I am with no bluetooth as it has not yet happened. All my computer/phone technology is PC/Android based so I don't want an Iphone that it will work with. I think hearing aid manufacturers need to be more careful about what they promise. That said, I've been mostly pleased with my Widex Moments, but, like the Phonaks, they sometimes get a bit too busy with their programs.
I’m part of that 10% lol, never thought I’d be okay saying that. Having to get new hearing aids to hopefully help as my current ones aren’t doing it anymore. I’m worried they’ll be more expensive than the inner ear ones I got 5 years ago… praying I can afford some phonaks, my other two have been awesome and survived very well! BTE hear I come!
A girl of 20 has this type of hearing loss, but she does not like her rather weak hearing aids and thus refuses to wear them. Most Phonak users whom I know here, complain that the sound is too ‘rounded’ and soft. The question is, can this issue be eliminated if professionals use another, say, an international fitting formula?

Thanks for putting out a video for the severe-profound hearing loss community. I have a severe-profound hearing loss and it is a challenge getting the HAs programmed to accommodate this degree of hearing loss. I have had Starkey HAs in the past and currently have Resound. Both is custom half shell. I am thinking of getting full shell next time around. I think Phonak, Starkey, and Resound are the only companies that offer a UP(130/70) receiver for custom HA. My biggest concern with custom UP hearing aids is the feedback. I haver read different comments about feedback from different HA's. Overall I have had better results with Starkey when it comes to feedback control but that could be due to the fit of the hearing aid. It is good to see these HA manufacturers develop hearing devices for those with severe-hearing loss. And again thanks to Dr. Cliff for addressing those with severe-profound hearing loss.
Hi there, I have severed hearing loss due to tinnitus. My first hearing aids are the Starkey. They work good even on my fitting inside my ears. I have the ones that are a little smaller & these are way easier to just put them in. They stop working & seen a doctor & they gave me the ones that go around the ears. Man those suck they hurted my ears so bad & the amplifier was crazy loud that I just yank them out gave me headaches. They just told me that I had to have the ones around the ears. I couldn't understand crap when someone was talking

I need some help, being a veteran myself from the early/mid-70’s. Long story short, through VA I was able to get my hearing tested. That has been over a year now. I haven’t received a letter from them saying to go where I got my hearing test done and get hearing aids. My job requires me to travel and I am on the road 95-98% of the time. What do you suggest Ido? I need to hear better as my hearing seems to be getting worse as time goes on. Thank You Sir for your service.
As a veteran myself I totally understand that the VA sucks, I was 11C and lost 30% to 40% of my hearing in 3 years. The Army hear protection was nearly nonexistent. The VA basically told me that I’m on my own, so with that being said I’m going to try Costco, I have a friend that has Costco hearing aids and loves them. Good Luck 🇺🇸
Impressive product line. My only question. Do they offer any information on their research on the possibly of wireless radiation output. There SAR output leaves. I for some reason doubt that they do.
There is plenty of research regarding Non-ionizing radiation and how it is safe to use.
All tho it’s true there has been ample research dealing with EMF’s . The long term volume research has not completely ruled out possible health issues. Here’s hoping that the current stem cell research continues with its favourable results. It very likely will put an end to the whole hearing aid requirement in the first place.
In my area the only audiologist that does real ear measurements push the Signia brand. I don’t understand why so many audiologist don’t want to do REM and why they want to be so brand loyal.
REM is an additional step that some feel isnt necessary based on the Real Ear Technology built in to new hearing aids. Basically each manufacturer has their own REM formula built in. Its normally 'close enough' to doing the third party REM that most dont feel REM is worth the time. I don't feel like an Audiologist or hearing aid specialist is bad for not performing REM, especially with new technology, but that is a personal preference of course.
