"Choose Me" a song featured in the Netflix original movie "KATE" as BAND MAID, has so many great RnR chops, it's kinda unbelievable. From Saiki's old-school phrasing, cadence and a super soulful vocal at the end; MISA's driving bass, her special riff after Kanami's brilliant, rocking main solo (complete with harmonic pinch), and her pulls at the end of the song that really funks it up with Akane's drumming; to Kanami's original composition, off-beat octave stretches during the verses, and her addition of a second uncomplicated yet super tasty solo; to Akane's unique snare & tom flurry that launches the choruses; and to Miku's octave-down, in & out vocal backup and lyrics... all makes "Choose Me" a throwback rocker that surprised me when I first heard it - and I'll bet most anyone - that they would come up with this western-style, rock 'n roll classic. Of course, after years later, it's not surprising at all coming from this important band of geniuses who are almost single-handedly bringing back the joys and soulfulness of rock for people from all places and ages to hear. At about 12:20 you address a point that I think is so enormously important in a group where everyone has so much talent. There is no ego standing between them. That the chemistry between them could hardly be better, you can really hear and see. Kanami decides what Miku plays. Miku doesn't even play on the albums. It's just easier for Kanami to do both parts since she wrote the music. Miku writes the words.
And Miku is busy recording vocals with Saiki. But, I understand that Miku gave some input to her guitar parts on Unseen World, particularly the song she does lead vocals - Sayonkadori, that she asked Kanami to rewrite the last minute or so to make it more difficult. Miku is definitely always raising her guitar game with each album and new song.
But when recording, Kanami does play Miku's parts on Miku's guitars so that in concert they match the sound of the recordings. It's a real credit to Miku that she plays the live rhythm parts to the same standard as Kanami's studio recordings.
Band Maid is a really creative band. Worth the visit. So many great all female Japanese bands. Try Nemophila with Revive or latest release Hypnosis. Or Gacharic Spin with Mindset. Or Sokoninaru (female bass)with Gou Ni Moyu.

Well, I've been recommending to you the official live "Real Existence", as it features the members being playful with each other on stage. I'd also recommend, as you're a vocal coach, the official live "Wonderland", as that showcases Saiki's vocal range. Also, you love to dance to their music. Well, my favorite Band-Maid dance tune is the studio recording of their instrumental called, "Without Holding Back". I listen to that over and over on auto-replay when I do my cardio workouts. I agree this is a song where the music video captures the essence usually reserved to a live performance yet with the perfect studio sound quality. The live performance available is excellent but not better than this MV imho. Absolutely do hope to see them live before too long!

Band-Maid has me learning Japanese and I have seen all their Live Streams since I found them last Feb 2020. I have all their CDs including the singles. Hey, JVB! So I've got two lists - "Bands I really need to see for the 1st time" and "Bands I really need to see again". I've currently have tickets for 3/5 of the "again" Bands (including NIGHTWISH!), but have realized that all of my "First" Bands are international, so there's more effort involved. That said, with Babymetal on hiatus, Band-maid moved into my top spot - I SO need them to tour the US next year! Rock on, JVB! 🤘😎👍
Both guitar solos are done by the Lead Guitarist Kanami. Btw she is also the band's Songwriter and Arranger, a truly skilled one at that with an insane output rate and versatility across genres (7 albums, an album every year since their debut) Their core sound is Hard Rock, incorporating elements of Pop, Metal, Jazz, Funk and Blues. Hope you continue exploring more of them as you're definitely in for a treat with their current catlogue already surpassing 100+ tracks. Not to mention, they recently released 3 new tracks with their single "Sense" and very likely a new album within the next few months.
Jacqueline, being that you are new to The Warning. last weekend they were one of the band's that opened up for Metallica in Florida. It's on UA-cam. Just go to the Warning at Rockville. You will love it!!!! They absolutely tore it up. Pau broke a drum stick about 1min 19 seconds into it. She keeps singing and dose not miss a beat. Totally professional.

I'm really happy that people from other countries enjoy Japanese music and rhythm. Rock came to Japan in the 70's, learned about blues, went through punk, and arrived at metal. While respecting, I continued to make new things and finally arrived. Japanese girl bands have a long history, but I think Band Maid is the culmination of that.
