$600 is a entire grocery bill for the month. It was very obvious they want that man to starve to have a roof over his head. This housing market is not human.
Some people aren't understanding that some long term tenants were able to have low rent due to the lower rates the owner bought the property 10-20+ years ago. Owners are now selling their property for much higher prices causing the new owner to have to increase rents just to cover the mortgage. In addition, the cost for repairs and upgrades if the previous owner didn't upkeep the property. It is unfortunate for the renter that prices must increase, but often it is out of their control when rates, home prices, and taxes have skyrocketed. The owner of a property isn't in a position to pay for people to live as well as upkeep the building.
@robnhood3214 Often, new owners will switch to a month to month once a lease is up in order to upgrade units. In addition, a new owner may have to meet some village inspection requirements that must be met when acquiring the property. City codes change over the years, and some updates can't be made while occupied. It is often unfortunate because it does put a strain on the tenant. However, updates often have to be made in order to keep tenants safe as well.
@robnhood3214 Yes, I completely agree. I would not recommend renting if one can qualify for a home. Instead of paying someone else's mortgage, you can have your own property and build equity. Renting leaves you with nothing to show for the $ you've paid month after month. I am a landlord and treat my tenants with the utmost care and consideration. I make sure the unit stays top notch so they feel that this is their home. They all receive gift cards and presents on their birthdays and holidays. Each maintenance issue they may have is addressed within 24hrs as well. Even when they have fallen on hard times and get behind in rent, I don't neglect their needs and they still get gifts just to set the precedent of the type of ethical business we run. The next property I get will be for affordable housing and we will be saving 30-50% of the tenants rent to give back to them after a 12-24 month period so they can put it as a down payment for their own home.
@robnhood3214 I agree these home prices are extremely high, causing the down-payments to and closing costs to be unaffordable. Not to mention extremely high interest rates.
There should be Federal Laws that prevent large Companies from owning properties out of State and since a dwelling is a necessity price should reflect the area it is located in . Sure, land lords across the country know they can receive up to $7,000 per migrant per month instead of anything less. Cities are paying up to $300 per day per migrant to feed and house. If a land lord houses a migrant family of four that’s a $28,000 per month income for the land lord. Ten migrant families of four is $280,000 monthly income. Evictions and sky high rent increases are happening at record numbers throughout the country.
