Definitely going to be following this video to see people’s tips as I’m in the same boat as you for the next 2-3 months.
Right!! I had a track meet at Naz from 6-10 last night. Killed the day because I had to be school by 3 to get equipment ready for the bus. Need to get organized with these tips to keep the brews coming. Fallen way to far behind. So far I have gotten some really good one. I am going to collect them and put out a video on it. Slainte!!
Cheers! I feel ya on the “no time to brew” deal. Kids, work, sports, they all cut in to brew day time! Tips: prep everything 1 day, mash and don’t worry about how long it takes, do 30 minute boils. All those have helped me squeeze in brew days between activities. Oh and not sleeping 🤣
Right!! Life is good but just busy right now. The more I interact with folks on this topic it really comes down to being organized the day in advance to get as much done as possible. Love this community for sharing cool tips! Thanks much!! Slainte!!
Oh I love a good Jim Mora callback. I made a video a while back going over some of the steps I took to cut down on my brewday. Mostly shorter mashes, shorter boils, either upgrade your chiller or use Kveik/no chill.
Great to catch you after a long spell. Besides the things mentioned below there is always extract brewing. Nothing cuts your timeline down like not having to mash and sparge. After all-grain brewing for 9 years, I still throw in an extract brew once in a while when I suddenly find some time but not a full day. Always keeping some dry yeast on hand helps too. Cheerz.
Thanks for sharing. What I usually do if I become busy, I'll crush the grains a day ahead. I also put water in HLT the night before. I'll measure the hops out and put them in jars then put them in the freezer the night before I brew. That's the only tips I have. I'm sure other brewers have some other great tips. For me I can Have a good brew day and finish brewing then it's the clean-up that hurts making it a long day. Cheers.
Those are really solid tips. It really comes down to being organized a day or 2 in advance that will help. Thanks so much!! Slainte!!
What I've been doing lately is doing a complete mash (BIAB) the night before, raising the temp of the wort to 180F then putting a lid on it and starting the boil in the morning. Getting all my mash stuff cleaned up and just worrying about the boil and clean up the next day. It's been working out great, don't feel like I'm stressed, short on time or rushed, and gives me plenty of time on both days
I like to prep everything the day before, do 30 min boil. Recently I'm experimenting with transfer at 80°C just after whirlpool, in a no chill cube. Next day i transfer into fermenter.
I like those idea. Thanks much. I’m collecting all the things folks have submitted and going to try to put them together in a video in the next week or so. Appreciate you watching. Sláinte!
3 things I have done to speed up brew day…
1) converted all recipes to 30 min boil.
2) got iodine for mash conversion test and I often find mash is done in 30 mins.
3) got sparge water heater and sparge @ 77C.
These are awesome ideas!! I love it. Thanks so much!!! Slainte!
When I get lazy I do a normal mash volume, the fill the mash ton with as much sparge water as I can from the boil kettle. Then I recirculate to clean the wort and dump it back in the boil kettle. It's sometime adds enough where I am dumping wort back into water that didn't fill out the mash ton. Works fine.
Very cool idea!! Thanks so much for the info. Slainte!!
