I remember a while ago when the Ariete got added with a 600mm pen round and people called it OP. Now 600-700mm is average for top tier and Italy is considered one of the worse top tier countries.
And of course gaijin removed the high pen round for the Ariete
yeah, the Ariete got that round because it was the worst protected MBT at top tier, but the second MBT to get something more than that was the Leopard 2A6, the best protected MBT if you don't count the swedish Leos. And what followed was a power creep of ammo making most MBTs armor useless.
Leclerc was one of the few with top round under 600mm of pen, if not the last, but somehow i'm managing perfectly well without one, that ammo powercreep was unnecessary, and now fucked with Italy like they always like to do

My poor ariete,i never understood why the C1 can't have the 625 mm pen round but the germans can have the 650,that was the selling point of the tank and they removed it.
first nation I've grinded to the top to get it and the day i was researching the ammo. they took it back.
They said that 600 was not the real pen of ariete, same with cv 90120, was 625mm now 600mm, gaijin hates small nations

@@antoniodemunari3335 quad .50 cal civ truck isn't a meme, that mount is devastating for SPAA. It's the only good SPAA USA has until 7.7, and unfortunately while usable, .50 damage starts to not be enough around the 6.7+ range.

IRL the Ariete is really cool conceptually, notice that there's no source for the steel/composite armor and remember that the Italian developers built the tank under the pretense that it would have applique composite armor. However, why would the devs make this tank 10.7 given the stats they provided it. They could have had the baseline Ariete without applique at 9.7 with RHAe inbetween the min/max of the challenger mk 2 but without increased CE protection and then added the PSO (buffed) at 10.7. Shame because like I said the Ariete is actually pretty cool.

Let's not forget the Type 90 with only 480 mm pen is also in the same BR. At least this thing gets 500+ mm pen shell like all other 10.7 MBTs.
The type 90 has the reload to still be effective, and the suspension makes it fantastic for hulldown or flanking gameplay

Not matter as much in the current meta. The 4 sec reload is only effective IF you managed to get into the flanking position, but if you fight directly with other tanks
then you always going to be at disadvantage because while they can pen you anywhere on the Type 90, the Type 90 however needs to aim for weakspot, some tanks like Leopard 2A5 or Strv 122 turrets are absolute immune to the JM33 and only small area around gun mantlet is vulnable but even if you pen them there there is a high chance that you will only disable their gun breech while no damage to the crews or ammo racks, they can just retreat, repair and come back.
Additionally it has no armor, terrible optics, first gen thermal and horrendous stock grind. Not to mention a whole ammo racks in the back of the turret so if you get pen from the front, there is a 90% chance it going to explode (i'm being generous for not making 99% because there is a rare chance that you might survive).
Being at 10.7 doesn't help either, it means you get uptier to 11.0 almost premanently, so why even bother when you have Type 10 sitting at just 0.3 BR higher with better optics, thermal, shells and slightly more useful armor ?
The hydropneumatic suspension is only there to make up for the lack of base gun depression and it takes time to adjust the suspension where other vehicles get -10 degree and don't need to adjust the suspension.
The hydropneumatic suspension on the Type 90 also had been nerfed for whatever reason so it can not lean forward as much as it used to anymore.
I've been playing the Type 90 since, idk back in 2018 ? Nowdays i barely play it anymore because the lack of reason to pick it over the TKX and Type 10 since it gonna end up at 11.0 BR regardless its slightly lower BR...

Gotta love too that the Ariete's armor isn't correct according to Leonardo's website. Gaijin says air-steel, Leonardo says welded steel with composite.
Edit: Bug report for exactly this (Name: Ariete(P), Ariete PSO, Ariete incorrect hull armour), sourcing Leonardo's website. "Not enough data" report labeled not a bug and closed. Not "More info requested". Not acknowledgement. Literally just "No" and closed.
As with most other western tanks, Ariete's armor composition and layout is a closely guarded secret, so if you want to model it, you can only try to guess it.
The thing is, most of the other nations at some point, somehow, leaked something about their tanks armor, maybe they bragged a bit too much, or they over-reported about something, some have even had a downright leak of classified documents, therefore, even if you still don't have 100% complete and accurate armor data, at least you can guess somewhat better, because you have something to reference or start from.
But for the Ariete, there's nothing, Italy has never leaked anything about it, none of the people in the field has ever leaked anything about it, so, nobody really knows anything about it, and the guessing has to start from, basically, zero.
Admittedly though, the Ariete's armor should be the worst among other western MBTs and this is also by Italy own admission.
Because the Ariete design took a bit too long to leave the drawing board and reach production, by the time it entered service, the tank was already a bit outdated.
Now, granted, the same is also true for basically every other western tank and in fact, all of them have been drastically upgraded over the years, to the point that you can talk about their different iterations pretty much like you would talk about different tanks entirely.
The Ariete's history has been different though, it has been upgraded a bit but not as extensively as the others have and, perhaps most importantly, not in the armor department, mostly because of the engine's relative lack of performance when compared to other tanks.
So, because of it's engine, the Ariete's designers could only squeeze either the same mobility as other MBTs but with lighter armor or pretty much the same armor any other tank is already carrying around but with much worse mobility, they chose mobility, evidently.
Plans have been made to replace the engine with a more powerful one and, as a result, plans have also been made to then upgrade the armor.
Had thoose plans been followed through, the Ariete would be considered, at this point, pretty much another average, standard western tank, not any better or worse than the others.
But the Ariete has not been improved (and it has not been replaced either) simply because Italy is, generally speaking, more focused on it's navy and air force, not really on the army, and then, even within the army, the MBT is not really the main focus.
In fact, because the MBT has been, by far, the type of vehicle that they have used (operationally speaking) the least, the italian army has actually very little interest in improving the Ariete and they would rather improve other, more important vehicles first.
So the bottom line is that Italy doesn't really need and MBT and the Ariete has been, for the longest time, just a "token MBT" the army can use to train and exercise, in order to maintain and improve their capabilities when it comes to MBTs, but not much more than that.
There is a possibility that the recent events with Russia and Ukraine could lead Italy and its army reconsider their stance on MBTs, but, considering how tanks in general are performing down there, I wouldn't really even bet on their opinion improving at this point, maybe it will and maybe they'll invest in a new tank, or maybe they could even abandon the MBT concept entirely and focus on something else, their centauros, for example, have been praised a lot after all and they're selling them around quite successfully.
@@eddycolangelo Guy, the BVM literally has a special spall reduction baked into the code that acts as a secondary modifier to reduce spall, the Otomatic's radar and optical tracking system have been artificially nerfed for 2 years, Gaijin doesn't care about technical specifications.
@@SadisNic I mean yeah, I'm not saying that they always fully represent every vehicle in a 100% faithful way, I know that they sway heavily from the real world technical specifications in order to "balance" a vehicle and make it perform the way they want but still, they do start from the real world technical specifications.
For the Ariete, those are an unknown quantity at best, and then they have to make it conform to what we know for sure about it, namely that "it has much worse armor compared to other standard NATO tanks", so there we go, it's gonna have poor armor.
They did balance it by giving it a very good gun, making it a glass cannon effectively, and the community called it OP, so gaijin did the usual "spreadsheet maths" they do in theese situations, they noticed that italy in general had a high K/D ratio (probably because when Italy got introduced, the first guys to reach top tier were dedicated, skilled players, that obviously overperformed what would otherwise be an average tank) and nerfed it into oblivion.
It's sad but it's gaijin, we know what they're like...
@@eddycolangelo They don't even start with technical documents. Do you really believe they have the technical data on the 2s38 to appropriately model it? A vehicle that hasn't even been adopted by the Russian military because it's still testing? That is the equivalent to giving the USA the AbramsX or Germany the KF51 Panther.

Gaijin actively contradicts itself all the time too. I've had an open bug report for four months (that is only acknowledged because I personally contacted a moderator on the forums) on a 14 month old bug for the Otomatic losing lock only 20 degrees off boresight while Gaijin's own wiki on both the Otomatic and the VPS-A06 radar both say +/-90. They even made the change with no mention of it in any changelog ever published.
Gaijin is no better than Wargaming.
@@SadisNic again, I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, I'm just saying, the armor on the C1 is too much of an unknown entity and thus, it has given gaijin too much of a gray area to work with, so they did as they pleased and moved on like they always do.

How many plates of steel are there?
How thick are them?
How are they arranged?
And also:
What kind of composites are we talking about?
Again, how are they arranged?
And so on...
There's really too much missing stuff about it, the same cannot be said for Abrams and Challengers for example, you can find plenty of schematics for their chobham armor around, so you don't really have to guess that much and when you want to represent their newer upgrades, at least you have something to start from.
For the C1, the only place you can really start from is the leo 1, so that doesn't really tell you anything at all, it's really hard to imagine the C1 designers basing their armor schemes on a leo 1, an already outdated tank that never even put that much emphasis on protecion anyways and that didn't have that much armor to begin with, so gaijin has had, effectively, carte blanche on the C1 armor design.
Again, I'm not hating on the C1, I know that italy had some very detailed and practical plans on how to improve it, which would bring the C1 very well into modern NATO standards, they just didn't follow through with them because they just preferred to use the funds for something else.
And I also admit that, if gaijin was a somewhat competent company, they could very well introduce those versions into the game anyway and breathe some life into the top tier Italy, but they just won't do it because, gaijin.
All I'm saying is that, because the C1's armor composition is so secret, gaijin had nothing to work with so they were free to just put anything in there, as long as it would be, overall, somewhat comparatively worse than other NATO tanks of the era, as it is widely reported for the C1 IRL and then, as long as the other parameters compensated for this lack of armor they could call it a day and introduce the C1 Ariete as an, overall, glass cannon.

Phly time flies when you have a kid. Nothing burns more time and reminds you how fast its gone when you're looking at your kid and they are 25 yrs old and successful. Blows my mind every time I see my kid. I was just reminded, I still see my daughter as the little baby I would hold and take naps with on my couch. I think this is why we as parents are always blown away by those who needed so much from us. We give it unconditionally and then BOOM ! They went from 6 months to 5 yrs and then they are on their own. I never wanted kids. However that changed when my daughter was C section and I cut her out. It was awesome ! She is me to a T.

I enjoy playing the Ariete. It's armor has proved surprisingly resilient from my experience. Italy is definitely an underappreciated country, and has good tanks to play around with.

PT1- light tank
PT2- heavy tank (kit war + pso)
PT3- new generation components with new Centaur 2 120/45 gun with auto-loader
Top tier gameplay with Thermals and Laser rangefinders. Point, tap, click, win. Too bad it requires your life to grind there.

If you have enough SP. You can land the drone at the heli base. J out and spawn back into another drone. When you respawn, it will be low above that heli base already flying.
The Ariete makes me so sad. I chose to main Italy when the ground tech tree came out. Since then, I've spaded the almost all of their vehicles in both ground and air. I have the Ariete purchased and unlocked, but I refuse to touch 10.7 stock grind. I just won't. I'm not bashing my head against a wall with no parts, no FPE, no APFSDS, no thermal sights, and no rangefinder. I'm definitely not doing it for a 10.7 tank which has been nerfed to the point of being the worst top-tier ground lineup in the entire game.
Dude I love the C1 Ariete. In my opinion you are just as good as any other top tier of you play it right, your not armored but you have a decent round that was a lot better, but you have good reload

I honnestly find these "no armor tanks" the best to play lately in WT! Been grinding the m36 this week wish is pretty much a glass canon and i really like that you have to sneak around, get in a good sniping position and move to get kills. It's refreshing compared to the usual trade shots until one gets blown up

I feel like once you get pasted 7.0 pretty much everything becomes a glass cannon. It's all a matter of who shoots first. Like there are late WW2 tanks that can pen the front of most modern MBTs. It feels like after a certain BR armor almost means nothing and it's all RNG. (Except for ERA)
I argue otherwise, armor is quite a useful thing even at top tier. Though not the best example I've tanked plenty of shots in my 2A4, and ofc the 2A5 can do twice as much in that regard. The T-64B can do really well, before I did the BV upgrade nobody seemed to know where to shoot, likely 'cause they thought I was a variant with no turret armor and thought I was a Turms after the ERA
armor is very much important in top tier. strong armor = small weakspots. reaction times are everything, so if you need to take the extra time to aim for a weakspot you might be shot first.

Finally Gaijin turned spalling back on for T series tanks. Imagine shooting the ammo rack from a good angle, the round spalls, and quarter of the ammo turns red or even black and you get "critical hit".

Yes.. but no. There were two projects in 2019 that got published for this upgrade. One of them is believed to be what were getting. Unfortunately, it doesnt even come close to the leopard 2. The new Ariete 2 seems to be getting a new engine, new tracks, completely electric systems compared to the idraulic ones it has rn, new stabilisation systems for the gunner and its sights, hopefully, a new trapdoor, the current one is an actual trap, and other minor shit like a new manual machine gun, cause we dont like automated turrets. No change for the ammo rack, no change for the front armor (still classified but defo not like the one in the game) and no change for the barrel, that is still the old tube from the 80s…
Hopefully when the upgrade actually comes its gonna be different from what we know, but if it doesnt… well its gonna be like in africa during ww2, outclassed by everyone

Strv 122s have best armor, no one can deny it
I play Italy and just got the tank 3 weeks before the nerd on the dart it has so i never got the round. But it is like a 76 sherman versus a tiger h1 it can kill it, but almost anything it fights will one shot it. Also he has the war time kit on it which increases the turret armor which you can see in the beginning of the video as the dark red armor on the turret. Then if the tank is facing hull front and gets shot were the driver is it will kill driver, loader, and commander which kills the tank only leaving the gunner. So it is still very much a glass Cannon
I'd love to have games like this but I'm always the one who gets nailed from half a kilometer away right at the beginning
I'm the one they use as an early forward scout (polish mine-detector) and cap tester. If I survive long enough they move up, if I blow up they sit back all game. Most of the time my team are just using me to see where the enemy fire from.
