A by product of lift is drag. Deploying flaps also incurs severe drag penalty that relies on tighter radius. It's a desperation move since if you overspeed the flaps you can't retract the effing things so therefore can't fly the plane in the flight envelop. Apparently they never ever used them in a dogfight though I don't know for sure. Leading edge slats help prevent a stall at any speed high or low but you guessed it the penalty is drag. Auto deployment of them has been around since WWII BTW.
The Tomcat automatically deploys leading edge slats based on speed and AOA, same as the viper. The trick that the cat has is that you can fully deploy the flaps manually, which will jam them and limit your top speed dramatically, but also massively improves low speed turn performance.

above 380-400 knots the tomcat str drops off because the wings sweep, IF you use emergancy wingsweep and pin the wings at 20 then the str will stay high all the way beyond 450 knots, then the problem becomes gloc lol, she will ACCELERATE at 9 gs much past 450 lol
2nd round; the poor pilot and RIO went through the HELL of pulling 15G at the merge to merge again at high speed, only to have you wax them with the easiest of eases. Damn. LongShot... u da bada$$ man.
We need a F-16-2 where 2 represents the twin engine variants. The Viper dually: >>Dual engines>Thrust vectoring>>Twin 20mm's>New 360° 30mm turret, w/R2D2
I noticed that the F-16 is Turkish. Speaking of which, Binkov’s Battlegrounds recently uploaded a video about Turkey’s new fighter jet, the TAI TFX Kaan.
I love your channel. I'd like to see you edit the sound a little more, though. The sound of your voice and all of the action while you are "in" the cockpit is one level and then you cut to the cinematics showing the action from outside and its WAY, WAY louder. If you could adjust that down or the in-cockpit sound up, it would be easier on the listener to not have to adjust the volume so much.

Thrilling content in the last two rounds LS. I think you should probably do a UAF MiG-29MU2 Fulcrum vs Su-57 BVR and Dogfight gameplay, and see if the old plane can still counter a 5th Gen Fighter. Great playing!
would like to see a dogfight where you still have some stores on board....F14 still has its pallets and couple 54s, and sidewinders/sparrows and the 16 still has wing pylons and some 120s or ground ordance (and drop tanks at the start) sort of an encounter where 2 jets stumble across each other and then have to fight close in while trying to hang on to long range weapons for their respective missions
If it gets really hairy they drop the ordenance, as the plane being worth 60+ million a a few hundred thousand on missiles or million in teh tomcats case, it's never even slightly worth keeping it. Not to mention the 10s of millions of pilot training.
The F14 was not really designed for BFM it's an interceptor. It does okay but is better not getting into the merge with a F16 or F18 for that matter. Of course the pilots ability still plays into this
Once you observed the tomcat had his flaps down, could you have tried and build some speed and climb since the tomcat wouldnt be able to climb as fast with its flaps down?
Although DCS doesn't put the Vipers full potential and DPS compered to irl for obvious reasons (proper rate speeds and energy retention and most avionics are classified) buuut it still performs really well, performs more like an F-16C Block 32 really, compered to the more classified Block 50 and 52 models and ofc above models, which btw 32 has a 3000 pounds of thrust difference, F110-GE-100 from the Block 32 has 29000lbf and the F110-GE-129 has 32000lbf enough thrust to see a slight better performs in the rate fight.
@@WOLFER. No they don't. It has been discussed extensively how the F-16 has grown with every variant since the 70s. There is a nearly 3000 lbs empty weight difference between the F-16C and the F-16V powered by 129 engines. 18,900 lbs vs 20,600 lbs. Worth mentioning, Some variants even weigh 22,000 lbs empty. Boyd's original version of the F-16A with P&W engine weighed only 13,800 lbs completely empty/dry.

I never compered the C to the V, and the V doesn't use the 129, it use a more powerful engine, still classified hence why you can't find any info on what engine it uses, second, I was compering the DCS 52 to the 32 and how it feels to fly the 52 cuase they can't put it to its full potential and that it more or less feels like a 32, hence why it's was Brough up third it's not a 3000lb difference. PS: do your god danm research, the Alpha model didn't weight "13800" it was more the +17000 empty, go look it up.
They already have missiles that will turn around and do that. They’re currently being used on US Fat Amy’s. You can lock and fire on a plane behind you in that plane with the JHIMCS.
That F-14 pilot was pretty mid at 2-circle with the cat... Don't give into 2 Circle by attempting to take high aspect shots, as soon as he tries to pull into the rate, you just want to ease off your aoa, get above 450kt while pulling 3-4 G's to keep the rate up, and at that point, just haul ass around the circle at 450kt and he wont be able to do anything about it.
I mean seeing as the f14 has a better rate without its flaps. using flaps at 185 knots and making the 16 look like it's an ac130 shouldv been used here. The 16 is a joke. and I don't get why nobody understands how to rate fight unless they fly a 16. Mirage 2000, F14, And even hornet out rate the 16. you just need to control them.

He has to manually apply his flaps but the viper's fly by wire system automatically applies it's leading edge slats
Flaps only help below 230 knots for additional lift. The AFCS applies all the movement needed for control in the cat.
