      I live in the Northeast/New England and we definitely talk to random people in the grocery store or other public places. I guess it's an overall "America thing". LOL The only places that you might not see it, would be the bigger cities like Boston, LA, NYC, Chicago, etc. I find it kinda weird when people are offended or put off by people saying hello or how are ya. Why would anyone be offended by friendly folks?

      Agreed. Talk to Anyone. I've described myself as the type of person who could become your best friend in an elevator before we reach the last floor LOL!! and that's an elevator, haha. In a grocery store almost anyone will talk to almost anyone. If someone doesn't, they seem "grumpy" or "crabby" or not very friendly or not very nice, LOL. Now, the world is changing over the past few years, but if you can feel out a person, you can usually tell within the first few seconds of talking with them whether they are friendly or not. From what I see in a lot of the videos put out lately it seems like it is an American thing I think ?? 🙂

    It’s not just the south, I live in the Pacific Northwest (Washington State) and people start conversations in the grocery store, gas station, really just about any where, with strangers. Maybe not in some areas but I bet it’s a common occurrence in most areas. Anything that’s got Carolina Reaper chili’s is extremely hot and drinking water only spreads the “heat” around in your mouth and throat, milk is the best option
    The green is guacamole, made with avocados. They’re eating it along with salsa, which is fresh tomatoes, garlic, onion, lime juice and the zest from the skin, jalapeños peppers, cilantro, cumin, sugar and salt. The tomatoes, garlic, onions, jalapeños and cilantro are finely chopped and then the other ingredients are added in and if the tomatoes had a lot of juice, you can strain it so the result is a thick, chunky texture. Refrigerated any leftovers after serving. I have no idea what that pipe is, I have never seen one in an RV before. Maybe it was a temporary repair if something failed like the A/C.

    And the corn chips they were eating when they were in the RV are fried/baked from a corn meal batter and the chip is very crispy. You use it to dip into things like they had, the Guac is yep Guacamole (made with avocado and garlic, diced tomato, onion & cilantro and salt). the 'queso" pronounce Kay-so is a melted cheese dip and it might have some mexican type of seasonings in it, but again, so! good with the corn chips. And those tortillas, fresh probably cooked with butter in the flour batter. Kind of like a very soft unleavened flour flatbread... and they are used as a wrap for all different kinds of foods, ...looks like they were eating them with a chicken salad. But you've also watched videos of 'tacos' etc... you can throw seared beef, steak, chicken whatever kind of meat, and lettuce, shredded cheese, cooked onions, peppers etc...whatever you like. and wrap/roll the ingredients up in the tortilla. Mexican foods are my favorite! LOL.

  • @TangentOmega

    The green stuff is guacamole, made from mashed avocados, onion, tomatoes, cilantro (coriander), and lime. Queso (cheese, in Spanish) is melted cheese sauce. Flour tortillas are a TexMex flat bread often used for tacos. It's easy t9 find foods here, even with dietary restrictions, whether it's for religious, cultural or health reasons.

    One of my first jobs was at a pizza place near the University of Texas. There were a lot of Muslim students and they'd specifically ask for pizza with no pork products. Though the eastern portions of the south tend to have more pork products, especially in BBQ, Texas is a little more beef focused. But I still love pork tamales. I'm not living in Texas right now, and HEB and bluebonnet season are probably the things I miss most. Unfortunately a lot of my family has recently left Texas due to the political climate. Not to mention the actual climate.
    The South is very friendly, and Texas takes this to a whole extra level. It's the state motto.
    Personally I prefer HEB's store brand overall (Creamy Creations)over Blue Bell, but Blue Bell's blackberry cobbler can't be beat.

    Good news: most of the snacks do not contain pork. Tortillas are sometimes made with pork fat (lard), but not always. Butter is another option. The green stuff is guacamole, a delightful dip from Mexico that is made with avocado, onion, lime juice & cilantro. Maybe you can find the ingredients and try it there. Tortillas are made with simple ingredients too (wheat flour, water, salt & some kind of fat, or very finely ground corn flour, water & salt). I hope you have a chance to try them some day. Some of the best American food is Mexican food. 😋

      @wandaortmann2208 Місяць тому +1

      And not everything that they call 'sushi' is raw fish. A lot of it is like fake crab meat & a couple other things rolled in sticky rice. Sashimi is usually the same type of item but that tends to have RAW fish. Sushi can include various ingredients like raw fish, vegetables, or cooked components, while sashimi consists of thinly sliced raw meat or fish served without rice. Sushi is a broader category that includes rice, while sashimi is specifically about the raw meat or fish.

    There are two basic types of tortilla chips with different tastes and textures. Flour tortillas are the hot ones they are trying. They are similar to Roti. Burritos and quesadillas are made from them. The hard tortilla chips are made from corn, thats been baked or fried. Tacos can be made with either flour or corn tortillas. You usually have an option, at least in Texas. "Guac" or guacamole, green or red salsa, queso and pico de gallo are popular condiments here. I love avocados 🥑. They must be ripe (not hard), but not too ripe (soft), but right in the middle, to be enjoyable, with a little salt added.

    HEB is a big deal in Texas. No other grocery store comes close to them. They treat their employees really well, they care about their customers, they work with farmers and suppliers all over Texas supporting Texas farmers.
    Some HEB locations make investments in the neighborhoods theyre in. One near me, helped fund rebuilding the community park and swimming pool nearby.
    My favorite thing about HEB, is that they are highly invested in the communities and people of Texas. When we have hurricanes that wipe out communities along the coast, HEB is there before FEMA (disaster agency thats "supposed" to help people after disasters) they show up with a fleet of semi trucks full of fresh foods, kitchens and cooks.
    While the government is handing out cheap bags of chips and junk food, HEB is cooking hot meals for those in need- at their own expense. They do it because its the people that support HEB.
