- An excellent, cold and wet evening session spent at Nuneaton on the West Coast Mainline where we see services from Avanti West Coast, London Northwestern Railway, Cross Country, West Midlands Trains and freight from Royal Mail, Freightliner, DB Cargo UK, DRS and Colas Railfreight.
The station also lines up alongside the Peterborough-Leicester-Birmingham Railway which means that plenty of traffic is always seen here throughout any time of the day. This wasn't the first station to be built here, the original station was built and opened in 1847 when the London & Northwestern Railway opened the Trent Valley Route and the branch line to Coventry. When the station was built it was done in a simple 2 platform approach and at the time was deemed suitable, however when the 1870's came knocking at the door it was highly unsuitable because of the sheer volume of traffic coming through the station in terms of passengers and freight. So in 1873 the station was rebuilt and was given additional platforms to cope with the high demand which seemed to work. The current station dates back to 1915.
A second station at Nuneaton was opened in 1864 by the Midland Railway, this station purely served traffic running on the line from Birmingham to Leicester. When the Midland Railway and London & Northwestern Railway were amalgamated into the London Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) in 1924 both stations were give different names because of the routes that they served. The station on the WCML was renamed Nuneaton Trent Valley and the station serving the smaller route was called Nuneaton Abbey Street.
Abbey Street station was closed in 1968 which meant that Nuneaton Trent Valley was renamed to just Nuneaton. This for the time being would also deal with the Birmingham to Leicester traffic along with the WCML traffic. The Coventry to Nuneaton line was also closed to passenger traffic in 1965 and was eventually reopened in 1988.
Many years had passed before anymore work was done to the station. This eventually happened in 2004 when Network Rail opened 2 new platforms at Nuneaton numbered 6 and 7, these new platforms would now purely serve the Cross Country trains running to and from Birmingham. This was done to avoid trains on the WCML being held up and delayed, because of this a disused flyover was brought back into life and rejuvenated which would carry the line from platforms 6/7 over the WCML and on towards Birmingham.
The next piece of work to take place was done in 2012 when the North Chord was opened which allowed freight trains approaching Nuneaton from Felixstowe to join the WCML heading north which at the same time would avoid delaying any trains heading south. The result of all of this would be that the trains are now able to seamlessly cross between the two lines without ever holding anything up. The exception to this would be any freight trains coming from the North of the country along the WCML needing to cross over at the junction to the north of Nuneaton to then travel down the Nuneaton to Coventry branch line which means that some Intercity trains will have to slow down. Although this is usually put into the timetable so the affects are very minimalistic.
My next rush hour film will be from London Kings Cross on the East Coast Mainline.

Great video. lots of freight variety and even multiple units in general! Nuneaton has so much freight as there is the busy Southampton to Nuneaton freight line, the Birmingham to Peterborough lines and obviously the busy West Coast Main Line. Great video once again. Loved it.
Great video!
350108 has an anti-trespassing livery on it I think, which answers your question around 9:00
Great video I would probably say you could see how fast each train using a speed calculator
Excellent as always. Commentary to perfection.
Great station for freight spotting! Beautiful video
Been ta Nuneaton a few times myself always a good variety of trains nice chippy not to far away from the station good couple of pubs to good vid as always cheers Tornado.
That was excellent indeed!! Thanks for filming in such conditions.
I wasn't expecting Chiltern railways to make an appearance
The 172/1 West Midlands Railway will remain until 31/12/2021

Another great video. Nuneaton is a superb location for train watching although it surprises me that Avanti don't stop there outside peak hour given that is a major interchange.
Agreed. Virgin used to stop there to my knowledge.
I saw 70812 in Cleveland OH, prior to being shipped across the Atlantic Ocean
Great video enjoyed watching your video your videos are fantastic

Great video like and subscribed from Czech Republic 🙂👍👍👍👍
Nicely done !!
Also looking forward to seeing the London Kings cross Video.
Very nice video
I would love to have a smoke machine on the platform at Nuneaton to observe how the wind behaves as a train screams through the station
Great video. I am wanting to go to Nuneaton one day but I don’t have a direct service from Sheffield. I will have to get a Cross Country Voyager/HST service to Birmingham New Street and then change for a Cross Country Turbostar to Nuneaton. See? A lot of messing about. When I have the time and money maybe.
Excellent railway video as always Tornado922
Another good video buddy from Alan Shelley

Everything from laptops to Jeans are inside them containers Jarrad, some have someone's car inside or someone moving house from Australia to the UK has put their home contents inside
Great video mate. U should film at platform 2 to get a 70 departing but at least you catch the ex. Chiltern Railways 172104 which is nice (I wish Chiltern Railways can get some new rolling stocks running around). I can't wait for London Kings Cross is going to be good and after that, can you do rush hour trains at Willesden Junction (Just like you film in 2016).
Can't wait for your kings cross video
Great video. Will you be doing a new video from Nottingham, its been 7 years.
Great video btw!! 👍
Some of the WMR services from Leamington Spa are running with Rail Replacements running in place of others
Quite a-lot of class 390/1s within the first 10 mins NGL. does make for a good trains at speed location
My town if i had known you where here i would of said hi
The vinyls on that 350 appear to be something about track safety (probably trespassing especially)
27:33, great class 88 catch!
Do cross country trains go to Ely from Nuneaton?
Great video
what is in these containers is all your Electrical appliances also food
containers carry allsort today...foodstuffs,cosmetics clothes electrical goods phones..chemiacls for industry ,fuels...most foriegn goods you see in supermarkets are probably going past you in those ...even model kits from china etc are carried...and most of the stock in places like B and M etc are from far east and probably in those containers too.. the phone or tablet you are filming on probably came in one of them too...lol think of all the foreign food we eat each day,no wonder theres so many containers in the world being shipped all over the globe from everywhere else.keeping us fed

The West Coast Main Line Has Plenty Of Freight And Is Britain's Busiest Railway Line
I do love your videos, must get out again next year with the stills camera on the WCML. Just my only question, how do you know if a 350 is an Ex-TPE set?
The Ex TPE 350s are /4s, the numbers on the front above the cab are slightly larger than on /2s.
450s ?
What a fantastic station! I have a question: Maybe one of you afficianados can answer: West Midlands Trains don't appear further south on the National Rail map than Stratford on Avon yet all the fast trains from Watford to Euston are West Midlands, which don't appear on the map there at all. Don't get it! Thanks.
Maybe you are looking at the West Midlands Railway map not London Northwestern, although they are the same company, they are under 2 different names, hope this helps.
West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway are the same company they come under West Midlands Trains, the London Northwestern Railway services do on some of the 350 units have the West Midlands Railway logo on them with a cheesy quote to show they also operate in the West Midlands.
@@marchemsley1210 yes but thats not the point, both companies have different route maps, he was looking at the wrong one probably.
Mate what app do you use to know what passing trains
As Always, There Is A HUGE Amount Of Freight On The West Coast Main Line
