I'm at the same crossroads. They are nice palettes but I paint only sometimes and only at home. If they had a "normal" price for a palette I would go for them but here in Sweden the big palette and an extra container to mix it costs more than 88 dollars, they only sell it on one island in the south.
Good afternoon 👋☺️ Mystery Arts 🌹Thank You for sharing this video I love your swatches sorry you had to cancel your trip hope you get to go soon stay safe and be careful 🙏✍️🖌️🎨💌🌹👋 enjoy your week ahead too 👍🦄
I was so tempted to get one of these, but it's only a tiny bit smaller than my FCLUB palette - not enough to prioritize it right now, for sure. It's great to see a good overview and size comparison though! I'm sorry about your trip. I'm sure you'll get to go someday soon, once things calm down a bit.
I’m sorry you had to cancel your trip. Last spring I was hoping to go to Scotland in the fall, but maybe next June, sigh…. I’m thinking to fill my Folio set with Jane Blundell’s Ultimate 15 in original size pans and then the remaining space with 30 mini pans. You don’t need much mixing space when you have a lot of colors. My most used set has been the original business card size with 28 mini pans. I work in a small sketchbook so have never run out of paint on a trip. I like that the Folio set is the same dimensions as a 3.5x5.5” Stillman & Birn softcover sketchbook or a small Moleskine Watercolor Album.
What a lovely palette and such a great size for travelling. Very sorry to hear about having to cancel your trip to Iceland. Let's hope next year turns out to be more relaxed.
So sorry about your trip. Hope this nightmare has an end date. Thank you for sharing info on the Folio. Love that you can get bigger pans for it. On Prime Day, I got the FClub thin palette. Unfortunately, their pans are not very interchangeable with Expeditionary Arts pans. I have a small collection of the EA pans and would have preferred their size. I have the Pocket palette. LOVE IT. When I ordered, I misunderstood pan sizes. I got two of the larger pans you mentioned but didn't show. Using a glue gun, I divided each of them into three sections. Those six sections hold the Daniel Smith essentials set. I have used the palette that way for over a year and haven't had any trouble with the paints intermingling from the bottom. Thank you for another enjoyable video.
Thanks for sharing your new Art Toolkit folio palette, I really love their products and use my Pocket Palette all the time! FYI, Grumbacher is an American Brand, based in New York since the early 20th century (I have vintage Grumbacher art supplies from when my mom was a kid and some from when I was a kid, too), but it's been acquired by ChartPak, another old American company based in Massachusetts. Blick's artist watercolors are made by Grumbacher, mostly the same colors, but they're about the same price.
Interesting to know about Grumbacher. I guess they are just expensive paints with a limited selection-haha. But I’ll have to check out the Blick watercolors-I don’t have any of those.
Any issues with rusting of the pans? I know there were some changes to make them rust resistant but I wasn't sure how the weather and/or paint selection might impact whether or not the new pans have issues with rust. Thanks for the fun video!
@@MysteryArts thank you! I've had few plastic palettes that have had cracking or the paint coming off so I wasn't sure about getting the palette but it looks too good to pass up!
@@MysteryArts sorry for the confusion, I was still talking about the paint * the paint I have had cracked and come off the plastic palette I previously had and I have tried twice to set up the paint on it but it always ends up happening. as you have said it may be in it's nature to crack.
@@YoksnaParaDesign no worries. If you find your colors falling out of the pans, try a drop of water under the color and see if that sticks it in place.
When you do eventually get to Iceland, that Tundra Blue will do you well around the glaciers.
I’ve gone back and forth about buying this palette…I love them, but I normally paint at home, so it doesn’t make sense, but it is so tempting!
@@JessicaCEP you can always just use it at home.

Thanks for this comparison. I liked the idea of using the standard pallette box as a mixing tray. Hadn't heard of that.

Excellent demo. Sorry to hear about the cancellation of your trip. May I ask what's this pentel book is called?
Thanks-I am pretty bummed about the trip. If you mean the Pentalic book, it’s called a watercolor field book.
@@MysteryArts thank you. I checked the description later. 😊

I agree-hopefully at some point we can get back to some semblance of normal. That’s a clever trick with the glue gun!

Do the mixing areas stain when you wipe it clean?
Not really. There might be a hint of color left after a good clean, but for the most part, the color all comes off.

I have not encountered any rusting issues with any of my art toolkit palettes-I’m pretty sure I bought all of mine after they made the improvements.
The numbers in Iceland are much better than they are in the US, if that is any encouragement. And they are probably handling better.
Nice palette!
have you found it to crack after setting the paints up?
For the most part no. Some paints have it in their nature to crack, but I don’t think any of these did.
