  • Brodric Martin Looking "Jacked" Before OTA's For The Detroit Lions. Last year was not the year that many Lions fans were hoping to get out of the big DT in Martin. However we always knew this was a project and a big part of that project was getting him in NFL shape which he appears to have done.

He came into my sneaker store CultureDET On Livernois and 7 Mile on Friday afternoon. And he does look slimmer and I asked him if they were gonna take the cuffs off of him this year and he replied “Yessirrrrr”.

The only cuffs on this dude was the Burger King cuffs he put on himself, Hopefully, now that he has a kid, he will see just how precarious his NFL job is and dedicate himself to staying in the league as long as possible.

I look at draft round as how many years it should take before they pan out. Particularly for “project players” like Martin. First rounders should be contributing in year 1. 2nd rounders should be getting significant snaps by year 2. 4th round and later should produce by the end of their contract.
It took Melifonwu almost 3 seasons to finally crack the lineup. If Broderic can contribute this season, he’s ahead of schedule.

Certainly could help to spell Reader. And if Reader gets injured, he could get an opportunity to play and learn.

It is possible that Martin was influenced by the leadership of Alim McNeill last year. Martin must have heard all the buzz regarding McNeill's body transformation and the results last year. Additionally, McNeill may be his mentor for the position and helping Martin develop into a starter in the near future. Since he was drafted by Holmes, one would think that he has the "grit" and "dedication" of recently selected players and is benefitting from a program that educates and develops talent.

If he is athletic and of optimal size, he can be coached up to play in the NFL as DT. This is not like baseball where you need the natural gift of hitting a baseball. It’s not like QB where if you cannot throw already at age 20, no amount of coaching is going to make you an NFL QB.

Martin had to transform himself. I think he was motivated to do it for himself but also the team asked that of him. It’s the only chance he has to earn playing time. He needs to be in better shape to compete and grow.

Detroit Lions have an aggressive defensive front. They will be able to generate pressure with the front 4. Broderick Martin will be able to rotate with Reader seamlessly. Yet to see what Houston looks Luke coming back. The rest of the pass rushers are questionable, although, in a good way because we know they are putting in the work. I don't know if Davenport can be an everydown DE. Still have Cominsky and Betts, Paschal and others players that can take the football field. Time will tell. The Lions have plenty to put out there.

Two years at Western Kentucky, after two years at North Alabama. Martin wasn't practicing against guys who could challenge him, and those are the all-important reps we fans never see. We'll probably see Brodric a lot in exhibition games, because Reader is still rehabbing his torn quad. I think he'll force a lot of doubters to delete their old "bust" videos.

Do I buy it? I would if the coaching staff doesn’t destroy his best asset, stacking and shedding. He’s 2nd to none at that ability. But if they want to obsess over pad level for a 6’5 dude? SMH. Only reason he didn’t see the field IMO was because of his exceedingly slow pursuit, this is exactly the transformation he needs to add the explosiveness after he sheds.

    • @LionsOnTheHunt313
      @LionsOnTheHunt313 25 днів тому

Pad level is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for a 6'5 player LOL. If he plays high it makes it EXTREMELY EASY for the Gaurd and/or Center to get under him and put him on skates!

@@LionsOnTheHunt313 Blah blah blah, you think I haven’t heard this mainstream belief ad nasuem? Just watch him play, his body stands up naturally, you don’t force a round peg into a square hole. It’s like asking Tyson Fury to get in a telephone booth with Mike Tyson, the stockier guy has the advantage if you can’t use your length. Much like the people who think Henry should run people over instead of finesse them with his stiff arm. Or the “professionals” who thought Hutch should play with his hand in the dirt.
Martin was doing quite well stacking, he was just shedding either too early and blowing his assignment or shedding without the athleticism to make good on the space he was creating. He simply needs better reads/timing when he sheds. More explosion would be a fantastic complement. I’d even stand him up just to see how well he could use his length, and quit wasting his energy telling his long body to do things it wasn’t meant to.
And that’s my main point, some people work from the outside in, not the inside out. And when you work on peoples natural strengths? You create unicorns that change the way to game is “suppose” to be played.

Close quarters in boxing has nothing to do with close quarters on the defensive line LOL.
Hutch can play with his hand down or stand up equally well, that's an advantage for him depending on the situation.
Yes Brod's length is an advantage, but first he must make sure the offensive lineman doesn't get into his chest and under his center of gravity. It's really not that hard to understand bruh.
