New to our shores, Chinese brands GWM, Haval and Chery are enjoying significant success in our market. But for Chery, this is not their first foray into Mzansi, and their offerings from the 2000s certainly left a lot to be desired.
However, Chery's latest products are lightyears ahead of their previous efforts, and in many ways, far ahead of some of their competitors.
However, especially in a cash-strapped economy like ours right now, its the staggeringly low price of these vehicles that is making South African motorists sit up and take notice.
The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Distinctive is available for a fair bit less than a top spec Volkswagen Polo, and in that sense alone it represents incredible value. We sent our video guy, Ciro De Siena, to bring you a detailed review of the all-new Chery Tiggo 7 Pro.
Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Price South Africa (as of June 2022)
1.5T Distinctive: R409,900
1.5T Executive: R444,900

We are paying way too much for German badges. It's really not worth it anymore.
Ridiculously expensive for standard features in most cases
You say that again I'm done with them
True
100% agree with you. Did you see the Tiggo 8, and it starts at 540k, cherry is back with a bang
very true
Lekker!
I have the HAVAL H6 Super Lux - absolutely love my car! Your review was actually the final decision for me - best decision ever!
In regards to fuel consumption, i cant speak for the Chery Tiggo. But i can definitely vouch for the fact that these cars (GWN Haval, tentatively assuming Chery too...) take a few 1000kms to drive in - after which you will see the fuel efficiency change.
On the H6 whatsapp group guys are getting anything from 8L/100km to 7L/100km for longer drives. One chap the other day recorded 6.9L/100km
As always, top-class review you legend!
Wow this 👉🏾 has sold me as I was not enthusiastic about buying the H6 because of the fuel, thanks. Haval here I come 😀
How's the Haval after treating you?
I'm honestly amazed at the interior material and build quality of the new Cherys. Look at how the sides of the inside of the boot at 10:20 is covered in carpet. You don't get that in any other SUVs at much higher prices. The Sportage, Tuscon, Rav4 etc is all hard scratchy plastic that gets scratched and damaged by luggage. Really really amazing. Well damn done Chery. And I test drove a Tiggo 8 Pro and it has better interior material and build quality than a GLA and GLB and those costs hundreds of thousands more and doesn't even have all the features of the Chery.
The only sad thing about this these Chery cars is that they have names of cell phones. Something pro !!! Otherwise good value indeed
😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
Nothing's bad
Also resale value is shocking. Please don’t waste your time with Chinese crap.
@@clementmahumane65 sometimes you need to be strategic on how you use your hard earned income. There're people who said don't buy kia/Hyundai and today these brands have proven themselves. So sometimes not taking risk, will take a lot from your pocket.
My first impressions on the standard feature set is how much the premium brands are SCREWING us with their prices on "features".
They'll learn the hard way. When I went into a VW & Toyota dealership recently and mentioned the Chery, the salesman from both just dismissed it.
I saw you driving out of Town last week in the morning and I knew it was coming 😀
Apart from the fuel consumption this car is great, the interior is top notch. I would advice anyone with a fully paid Vivo,Fiesta or Corolla to consider this as their second car. The German's are offering such for nothing less than 700k, in today's economy most people cannot afford that.
You Mr. David are a star, thank you for that idea.
Production costs and costs of living in Europe and USA are much higher than China....the very reason many top brands relocate to China..
as a second car ? hw much r u earning ,u must not insure, license or get ur vehicles properly maintained😂
EASILY THE BEST REVIEWER ON YOU TUBE , SO FUNNY AND YET STILL VERY INFORMATIVE , GREAT SRUFF THANK YOU
Been waiting for this review for such a long time
It looks beautiful and modern 😍 all specs are for a top of the range with better pricing
Been waiting for this one!
I looked forward to watching this review. Such a nice blend between space, spec and most importantly well priced. Triumphs the haval H6 based on looks ✔️.
I had the same thought too, the fact that it beats H6 on looks.
Great review Ciro, even though it lacked some enthusiasm like when you did with Tiggo4, i know it would sound as if you are batting for Chery, don't worry we want your happiness when you doing these reviews and this Tiggo 7 is a larger Tiggo 4, that to me is 💯, keep up the good work 👏🏽 🙌 👍
It would be fantastic if you did the Kw/Bhp conversion in video. And even better if you displayed those numbers on screen. Or maybe the "compare" table you have on your site. Great video as always though. Love the longer reviews.
Always a pleasure watching your videos, you've become my reference point for cars!
Thank you, this is great to hear!
Man, you getting better and better at this car reviewing thing. Nice video!
Been the goat for a while now actually
Not better but amongst the 5 bests in the country 😁😊hey❤️💫
Great review! Loved your objectiveness. Stunning car with amazing features and affordable
Great review Ciro!!!
Ciro firing shots 🤣 “…nice highways in the Western Cape”
This guy has got talent 👈😒 keeping it natural and yet delivering the facts🔥
The Chinese are to stay,I mean the warranty clause say's keep me longer and yet it's well spec'd 🤦
Genius ❤️
Great review, quick question is that cabin really that quite or it’s your great noise cancellation mic?
Brand new cars start off thirsty and slowly have a healthy fuel consumption, I had no idea great staff man✅✅
Excellent review, I have had it for half a year and I attest that every day I am more satisfied.
Has the fuel consumption improved?
So impressed with this review! Had to comment and compliment you on the delivery!! Made me want to watch orher reviews just for the sake of it 😂
Thank you so much!!
Awesome review Ciro and team! How do these Chinese SUVs perform when tackling minor off road activities?
Ciro is the best man.. "hello, am scratching my nose" 😂😂😂
Drove this car today... damn what a great car
Can't wait to see your review on Omoda 5. Good job👍
I love your reviews mahn!!
I just buy an AWD version of Tiggo 8 Pro Max with 2.0T engine and it costs me 155k RMB. Acceleration performance is remarkable and I love it so much.
Official 0-100km/h acceleration is 7.5s and 7.1s in real test drive. Fuel consumption in busy city road is around 9.5L gasoline per 100km and around 7.5L per 100km on highway with 120km/h.
Great entertaining review Ciro.
What about after sales support/ back up. Out of warranty costs. Nice long warranties but what about spares availability. I doubt any "first owner" will still own one or have one after 5 years, so not sure to who/m the million km warranty will be of use.
Looks nice, drives nice, time will tell how this will pan out.
Very objective thanks for the review.
Ciro the 2 screen setup was actually inspired by Audi - they did it before JLR. Excellent channel guys keep it up
Great review Ciro, as always. My only concern about all Cherry Tiggos is the fuel consumption. Do you know if remapping the car to better the fuel consumption will void the warranty?
Honestly fuel consumption it too high
I drove the car for just under 6 months and sold it back to Chery. I just seemed to have endless issues. Although the technicians were always willing to assist, which I really commend, as a daily drive I really wasn't enjoying it. 1st issue was the Aircon which during EVERY drive gave off a horrible 'old water smell'. 2nd issue was a rattle in the instrument cluster which was extremely annoying. 3rd issue was a ticking noise after its 5000km service which technicians could not replicate, but occurred frequently until the vehicle was sold back to Chery. 4th issue, and honestly the main one for me, the terrible fuel consumption. Best i got was 8.7l/100km on the downhill from jhb to dbn. Average consumption was 10.3l/100km. I also felt the engine was underpowered for the weight of the vehicle. There are definitely some great aspects to the car; endless safety features, great space and smooth ride on the long road. Again, koodos to Chery for attempting to resolve these issues, but unfortunately it could not be resolved in the 6 visits I made to them...
That’s why you pay a premium for German Badges
Cheap Chinese horrificness
I've had mine for almost a week and I'm enjoying it so far. I've done 600km already. Its been thirsty so far with doing lots of highway driving 11.2, (Fourways to Benoni) I'm hoping once the engine has been run in a bit it will be more frugal. That's the only complaint, really it is. It great value for money and it's great to drive
How have you the driving experience? The power figures (kw/nm) are are not that high. Does the car struggle with aircon on and a passenger or two in it?
@@ryanalley2446 I've enjoyed the driving experience so far. I've had 4 people in the car with aircon on and it's pulled nicely. It is a heavy vehicle though for a 1.5T engine and you use more petrol around town if not careful with the accelerator and the air conditioning on. If you can live with that, it's a great car and good value for money compared to its competitors.
@@robinelliot5003 I appreciate the feedback, thx!
What about the power comparing it to haval jollion which one will you recommend
Hello Robin, how's the performance of the CVT gearbox while accelerating (overtaking)?
I am watching this 3rd time now. I am buying this finally. Thank you for excellent content
Me and you are on the same boat , congratulations on your new baby.
hey tshiamo ,im thinking of buying one too .How is it treating you so far ?
especially in terms of comfort
This looks awesome!
Thanks! I like it, the only setback, is it guzzle a lot. I feel like we still gonna suffer from petrol not only that it would be expensive but you won't find it at all.
I always enjoy your reviews 😁
Man....rear door oncoming car/tram/bicycle warning device ought to be a standard in Melbourne. As a tram driver in Melbourne I have taken 3 doors in the last 7 years on the narrow yet very busy Swan Street in Richmond!!
Perfect design well matured.. simple..
Great Review and Great SUV. The only downside is the fuel consumption. Most petrol turbos are like that.
I wonder if a hybrid version will be available some time soon?
Cooler box test 😎
Patiently waiting for the Chery Omada
Have you tested the adaptive cruise control?
Thanks for an awesome review Ciro. I'm seriously considering the Tiggo 8 Pro with me being a mom of 3 now (watched your review - thanks). Test drove it twice, was lovely. I have a couple of concerns/questions:
1. Whats your take on the resale value? Managed to sell my hyundais with no real depreciation. It's hard to tell with Chery being so new
2. The CVT gearbox? I owned a Fiat 500 with a CVT gearbox that died on me. How reliable is this gearbox?
3. The rearview mirror in the Tiggo 8 Pro gave me a headache... you think I can get a normal mirror cut and fitted on top of it?
4. Does fuel consumption really improve after a couple of thousand kms on the clock?
Lastly, I can see my kids really getting a kick out of talking to Chery, so I'm hoping she will keep them entertained on those long drives haha 😄
Has anyone had a Chery for more than 1 years. How do they hold up??? I am very impressed with the product but I don't want head aches after the fist year.
From the rear wheel backwards it looks like a Toyota Fortuner, the front has some Kia Sportage vibes. But all in all, it's beautiful, I'll rate it a 9/10!!!
Front looks like a Hilux
This car is. beautiful, Best value for money
i liked your schmerry joke in the end
Solid review
It's a good looking car and not badly prices
I assume the fly by wire auto gearbox means that there isn't a manual option? That for me is already a dealbreaker but I'm old fashioned.
I'd also predict that the resale value will be an interesting number to watch. I'm predicting Alfa/Renault level depreciation but time will tell...
Any comments on the CVT gear box??
I can vouch the title my replacement quote for the 2022 model of the same spec polo as myne came in at 452K
Any comments or reviews on the power output (108kw/210nm) as it seems a little shy in that department? Is it enough power for such a big vehicle?
People going to cry when they trade in these things.
Buy something cheaper you can afford from a trusted manufacturer.
I was told the executive also has the high beam feature.
Any comments from owners regarding durability of the powertain and all the shiny bits?
These Havals and Chery have been enabling SAns to get access to affordable SUVs. Those consumption numbers are crazy though.
Apparently an updated Chery Tiggo 7 with a 1.6l Turbo engine with the 7 speed DCT gearbox plus AWD will be available before the end of the year...
It would be interesting to see the pricing of the upgraded model....
My favorite African car reviewer, period!
Cheers from 🇲🇿
Amazing specs and beautiful car @Chery, great review indeed Ciro, keep up the great work.
One day I'll buy me a Chinese car and save plenty of money.
Reliability is yet to be proven. It will take a while. But good value for money.
Plz review the Kia Sorento
The indicators going on when stopping is rear collection warning.
I like this car i might give it a chance
I’m waiting for the Haval GT it looks awesome.
It's here
@@nokocambelngoasheng9279 Awesome do you know which dealers have stock
Ditto, waiting!
@@sacitizen1089 try calling haval krugersdop I've seen one there
I have the H6 super lux - personally, i think the GT looks far less classy and refined than the H6. (Especially with all that weird bright yellow detailing.)
Would love to know how it compares to the BAIC X55
I am very impressed with the new range. I do feel however that the vehicles could have benefited from a bigger engine and also a diesel derivative.
I have a concern though that will always cause me to think twice before purchasing a Cherry product in that my wife bought a JW Swag a couple of years ago and without much announcement Cherry was withdrawn from the local market leaving Cherry owners high and dry without much after sales service and support, not to mention that you can hardly find spare parts for these vehicles. (You have to import anything you may need and be prepared to wait between 60 and 90 days).
If Cherry wants to impress and reassure the general public that they are here to stay and not disappear of the map again in a couple of years, I would suggest that they look at establishing some support for the older generation of vehicles that are still on our roads.
C-H-E-R-Y
You forget to tell about the gear shifter, is special....is to push 1 neutral... and so 2....to change gear....
Stuff the family, I subscribed looong ago as I really like the channel. I'm sure most car guys do. Enjoy ☺👍
Great to hear :)
The Germans really will be dethroned in a few years if they continue with the ridiculous prices
This is a lot of of car R444K
Can you please review the RENAULT KIGER .🙏
Would love to see you review the Tiggo 7 Pro MAX awd.
The guy with the "wrap around glasses" was Geordi La Forge , Star Trek 😁
Apart from not liking the phone name, which sound like Huawei I do like the car because of the tech, interior and most importantly the sunroof 💯 for that price so far there's no alternative. Other cars you have to pay more for most of those features
Does it gives hustle when driving on gravel road . Coz I go to my farm house often
Great value for your money if you ask me. That is a lot of car for the price.
Some of the switch gear and buttons are very VW-esq... but that fuel usage is way to high as a daily for me.
Can you please do a review on the new Tiggo 7 Pro Max 👌
how can we keep the panoramic cover retracted even after locking the vehicle
We need this in a diesel spec
My good Sir, can you please do a review on the Tiggo 7 pro max AWD the 2024 model, I would really appreciate your input, i am looking into it. Your guidance will be appreciated
voice command , sunroof , briliant infotainment , 10 year gear box and engine guarantee .....good price
How does it compare to Hyundai Tuscon size and speed.
I'm glad they are giving VW, Hyundai, Kia and them a run for their money. Haval and Chery made luxury so affordable. Thank you China.
There are little differences between this and the version in middle east regarding external and internal shape
How is yo consumption at Eco mode
Wow that's the car of my dreams❤
How's parts importing? Seen a lot of these Chinese brands struggle to get their parts to SA due to the war in Ukraine.
I think it would be more realistic quoting all vehicle prices INCLUSIVE of VAT.
That VAT 'add-on' makes a huge difference to what you quote.....:hopes dashed: 😂
Thankfully, nothing like the previous Tiggo or QQ3.
How's resale value on a Chery? Is this car better than the new Honda BR-V?
I love how Ciro always mentions he's a "car journalist" but constantly refers to parts as "thing", "thingy" "stuff" 😂😂😂 very relatable
Yep i was almost spot on when guessing this car i said hybrid lol... cant wait for the Pro Max Ultra Flip fold 7G.
Can you please do the new Honda HR-V?
Isn't Cherry been there in SA for some years now? It has 2 weeks in Boyswana and we are banking on you to say something about it.
