That sleepy sickness was a real event that occurred, which doctors and scientists still arent exactly sure what caused it. More than likely it was a virus like covid or something, but this explanation is much more interesting lmao
It has been a while since I’ve seen any new reactions for _The Sandman_ posted (around a couple months at least), so this is quite a treat. It’s a really fantastic series. Neil Gaiman (creator and writer of the comics series) is heavily involved, and the artist Dave McKean (who designed all the cover art for the individual issues and collected editions of the comics) even came out of retirement to design the end credit animations for each episode. It’ll be a pleasure to enjoy this series again with you now.
You don’t have to worry about backstory either. Episode 1 is issue 1. There are some changes here and there, which I think are largely improvements, or at least equally as good as the original for the most part. A considerable amount of dialogue is right from the comics, and there are some shots which are pretty much 1:1 with certain panels. Sure, there are some things I might have done differently, or kept closer to the original (since there isn’t an adaptation I know of for which this is not the case), but for this adaptation, my list is so short, it’s near enough to nonexistent.
The Corinthian wasn’t introduced this early in the comics, but I think they made it work well. Even just the line “You should hope not” makes it a worthwhile change to me.

I’m sure someone has mentioned this to you already but the Lucifer TV show was spawned from the Sandman Comic - though it took Lucifer in a very different direction.
In the comics Alex wasn't cursed with eternal sleep, he was cursed with eternal wake. He wasn't just stuck in his dream it was much worst.
He wakes up over and over again, only to find the world turn into some terrible nightmare. Then he would wake up and it would turn into another nightmare.
They actually did film that version, but it confused test audiences
