Joke after joke after joke. And each one is a zinger. It boggles the mind to think how long it must have taken to put a routine this long together. Genius.
Saw him a couple times in west village. He tries out so many crazy jokes then writes notes on stage about how the crowd responded. I love seeing the raw jokes that haven't been polished yet.
it is incredibly dense, so many great jokes, one after another the entire time. He's a super talented comedian, and even off the cuff on podcasts he's funny as fuck too. Really funny guy.
It's called grinding until you have an actual strong full hour. Comics don't do it anymore only the ones truly dedicated to the craft, and the difference really shows

I honestly think he is one of the most prolific comedians of our time, i get some people don’t find him funny, but humor is very subjective and he is text book comedy.

If Mark was your average comedian, he could've and would've spread these jokes over two specials with longer pauses and segways, sprinkled with random banter with the crowd. But because he's badass he just spits joke after joke for a whole hour. Props man.
to be fair he does re-use a lot of material for this special. If you look on Conan and Fallon he tells a lot of the stuff used here. I agree he's funny as fuck though.
If we’re talking skill and ability, I have to say he’s top 5. He doesn’t have the legacy of many just yet, but i really struggle to find more well-crafted routines than Mark’s

there’s something to say about a comic who goes set up, punchline, setup, punchline, setup, punchline and make an hour special of it. Mark strikes me as the type to time the average su/pl and figure the amount of jokes it takes to create a 50min special and then just kill it. analytical yet HILARIOUS
He's legendary. So manny subtle jokes sprinkled in between too. The cool part is how he talks real life issues with comedy and on top of that makes a good argument about it while still being fuken hilarious. He's just amazing.

About how mark actually looks up to Tom for being able to come up with great stories, while also having jokes in between. And on the other hand, mark can spend weeks on a joke, for it to literally be 11 seconds on stage. Love both of them for sure.
Gotta respect the punchline comics. Storytellers like Chappelle, CK, Burr, etc are fantastic, but sometimes you just wanna sit back and listen to jokes.
I miss comedy like this. It's comedy, nothing more nothing less. No long stories with a billion callbacks, just joke after joke. Crafted perfectly with an amazingly natural flow. I love Mark, always have. I wish he was more successful, but he is doing very well. I think Godfrey should be bigger too, should have been on SNL.
Yeah I tend to find myself randomly searching for any new interviews Godfrey has done because he doesn't seem to do a lot of stand-up anymore. He is funny on Wild "N Out, but even though he's a regular this past season, he still doesn't seem to get shown a whole lot.

I didn’t realize at first how well crafted Mark’s jokes are. They’re so good you don’t notice how complex they are until you listen a few times. Very few comics are more worth a re-listen
This may sound really dumb, but I don’t really watch much standup. But is that like a thing? That if I watch this again I’ll seriously realise I missed shit? Don’t get me wrong happens all the time to me with movies and tv shows, but just wouldn’t have thought that could happen with stand up. Even though I know very little about standup I can tell his work is insanely rich in density. But I guess I kind of think of standup as linear. Kinda like propositional logic; premise, premise, then conclusion.
Concur entirely. After 3/4ths watched the realization of how seamless he presents, the material flows equivalent to "Best of" from Hicks, Carlin, etc. An unexpectant gift, last hour of calorically intense laughter. Well done.
I think that Mark's owns the World's JPM record (Jokes per minute). Amazing how he goes from one punch line to another, within a single freaking story!. One of the best shows I've ever seen!

He's getting there. You know this guy is a great comedian cause you hardly hear people clap, but you can hear the laughs. Too many "comedians" these days are going for claps from the audience.
He's starting to blow up though. I think he'll be a house hold name in the not too distant future. His first appearance on Rogan gave him a noticeable bump, and then he was back on Rogan like a few months later. And now this. This kid's going places.
But for every three average ones you sit through that new Tom Segura ( or insert another comedian who always brings it that's had a recent special too. I just had him on the brain I'm telling him about someone earlier today that never heard if him I guess) comes out. I think that it is worth the time wasted watching the other ones. Because at the end if the day it was all during my leisure time so it's not hours I'd get back to do anything productive kinda defeats the whole purpose ya know. If I had a problem with Netflix it's that the gems are usually hidden and they'll suggest them to you after you've already watched the ones they've been advertising way harder. It seems like to get on that Netflix front-page for stand up comedy you have to ; A. Be an undeniable legend, B. be offensive to no one's sensibilities, C. Or try to crack your jokes where you offend the sensibilities of both sides of whatever you're talking about ( Bill Burr is amazing at doing that). I think the only one who really broke out of those three categories and got the front page was when Marc Maron released his last special. All of his jokes were somehow related or indirectly related to all those "woke topics" At the very least he was made of passing analogous comparisons between what he was talking about about and those topics. All of a sudden he was on the front page of Netflix right out of the gate with that special, because he essentially was related to everything they've been trying to push so hard. And it's Marc Maron so either he designed his whole set like that , or just the nature of that kind of stuff being everywhere wore on him so much that he broke the algorithm by accident. He is smart enough to do the first thing, but he also has the kind of mental state that could be so bothered, annoyed, or obsessed to do the latter so both are viable options.
It's crazy to see how smart he is. His jokes are so well crafted and he fires them off so fast. Its incredible to watch. Also, you would think that that pacing would throw off the crowd, make it harder to build into a big laugh, but he still controls the room despite his speed. He still let's jokes breath, and if there isn't a big response he can go right to the next one to remedy that. I can't believe this is free. I need to go see him live!!!
Mark says that he doesn't have any of the benefits of autism, but I'm pretty sure his ability to intelligently craft a rapid series of intertwining jokes is possibly one of them
Best standup special in years. I'm hard to please when it comes to standup, and I've watched this probably more than any other standup special I can think of. Mark is up there with Louis, Stanhope, Burr, Mulaney, Morrill and others
There are comedians in this world, but Mark is a genius among comedians. He is brilliant, every joke and punchline perfectly crafted! His mind seems to be working at a thousand miles a minute. His IQ must be off the chart!!

Dude, this is impressive af. Most comedians would split this material into like 5 specials. That was so dense with jokes, I wasn't even done laughing by the next punchline. He's got a true knack for this comedy thing.

About how mark actually looks up to Tom for being able to come up with great stories, while also having jokes in between. And on the other hand, mark can spend weeks on a joke, for it to literally be 11 seconds on stage. Love both of them for sure.
Gotta respect the punchline comics. Storytellers like Chappelle, CK, Burr, etc are fantastic, but sometimes you just wanna sit back and listen to jokes.

I miss comedy like this. It's comedy, nothing more nothing less. No long stories with a billion callbacks, just joke after joke. Crafted perfectly with an amazingly natural flow. I love Mark, always have. I wish he was more successful, but he is doing very well. I think Godfrey should be bigger too, should have been on SNL.

This may sound really dumb, but I don’t really watch much standup. But is that like a thing? That if I watch this again I’ll seriously realise I missed shit? Don’t get me wrong happens all the time to me with movies and tv shows, but just wouldn’t have thought that could happen with stand up.
Even though I know very little about standup I can tell his work is insanely rich in density. But I guess I kind of think of standup as linear. Kinda like propositional logic; premise, premise, then conclusion.

@Austin King Indeed does. Rewatching a john mulaney special brings me to tears of laughter.
But for every three average ones you sit through that new Tom Segura ( or insert another comedian who always brings it that's had a recent special too. I just had him on the brain I'm telling him about someone earlier today that never heard if him I guess) comes out. I think that it is worth the time wasted watching the other ones. Because at the end if the day it was all during my leisure time so it's not hours I'd get back to do anything productive kinda defeats the whole purpose ya know. If I had a problem with Netflix it's that the gems are usually hidden and they'll suggest them to you after you've already watched the ones they've been advertising way harder. It seems like to get on that Netflix front-page for stand up comedy you have to ; A. Be an undeniable legend, B. be offensive to no one's sensibilities, C. Or try to crack your jokes where you offend the sensibilities of both sides of whatever you're talking about ( Bill Burr is amazing at doing that). I think the only one who really broke out of those three categories and got the front page was when Marc Maron released his last special. All of his jokes were somehow related or indirectly related to all those "woke topics" At the very least he was made of passing analogous comparisons between what he was talking about about and those topics. All of a sudden he was on the front page of Netflix right out of the gate with that special, because he essentially was related to everything they've been trying to push so hard. And it's Marc Maron so either he designed his whole set like that , or just the nature of that kind of stuff being everywhere wore on him so much that he broke the algorithm by accident. He is smart enough to do the first thing, but he also has the kind of mental state that could be so bothered, annoyed, or obsessed to do the latter so both are viable options.
As much as I like Mark all three of Bill Burr’s specials are better than this.

It's crazy to see how smart he is. His jokes are so well crafted and he fires them off so fast. Its incredible to watch. Also, you would think that that pacing would throw off the crowd, make it harder to build into a big laugh, but he still controls the room despite his speed. He still let's jokes breath, and if there isn't a big response he can go right to the next one to remedy that. I can't believe this is free. I need to go see him live!!!
