January 6th next to 9/11 the most surreal thing I've watched on live TV. The fact that a SITTING PRESIDENT, refused to accept election results, a hallmark of our democracy for 200+ years, is so implausible, that if it was a movie, I would find the plot ridiculous. The fact that almost half of America is willing to vote for him against is frankly scary beyond measure.

Titan submersible doesn’t belong on this list (as well as others). It’s just recent. You think 25 years from now people will still be talking about a crap made, amateur sub that predictably collapsed? I doubt it.
I think you’re right, Joe Bloggs won’t be telling his grandchildren about it, unless he is teaching them about engineering. Such failures always remain as a lesson in the history books, but limited to that particular field.
Wait Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in the Philippines didn't make it? That typhoon killed almost 7,000 people here, it is more memorable than a stupid made submersible
I was working at a restaurant as a dishwasher at the start of COVID-19. Just before we had to close down, there was one night when one customer stole all the toilet paper from the women’s restroom. We should have been frustrated, but it was so ridiculous that we couldn’t help laughing. 😂
Hurricane Katrina happened when I was in elementary school and I live in TX. If didn't just kill 1000 people. SO many people were displaced not just for a little while but YEARS if they EVER went back. I remember new students coming into our class from Louisiana all year long.
I'm not arguing was just sharing a memory, but the impact that Katrina had on the US and Louisiana was bigger than just a death toll. The area took a decade to recover and many people never did.
I'm sure the same can be said about the tsunami. To be honest all human suffering is a tragedy there's no need to compare as if it's a competition lol that's honestly the shittiest take on this kind of thing. One tragedy does not invalidate another death tolls being higher does not mean the suffering is any less for anyone on all sides
The destruction of the Titanic submersible sucked but I don't see as a seminal event of the century thus far. The fall of various African dictatorships b/n 2020-2023 has far more reaching effects.
The Arab Spring was way more of an event than the submersible as well. Titan doesn't belong on this list at all IMO. Kobe Bryant and his daughter dying in a tragic helicopter accident was more impactful.
@@Oz1976I kinda feel like the death of Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and the other people in the helicopter was less impactful than the Titan implosion. It was a helicopter crash, whereas the Titan tragedy was a small crewed vehicle going missing somewhere in the ocean with no way of making communication with it, then imploding.
You're actually missing the 2011 Norway Attacks and the great Tohoku earthquake with the following nuclear meltdown of Fukushima Daiichi, these moments really shook me to the core
The "thank you healthcare workers" sign got me.... Remember when we were heroes for 2 weeks and everyone banged pots and cheered outside the hospital? That kicked off 4 years of the most verbal and physical abuse I've ever received as a nurse from my patients. I came home with bruises all over my body some days from being punched or beat. We were screamed at and cursed as" agents of the government that's spreading lies and killing people on purpose" as we worked mandatory overtime trying everything to save them. I almost forgot those two weeks of heroism until I saw that sign. Good times.
Well thank you so much for your service and I'm sorry people are being horrible to you guys. I'm chronically sick so I have a lot of exposure to all of you and you're the ones who make my life a slightly less living hell on a regular basis. I don't know why people think you're trying to kill them when you're not only being paid to save their sorry hides but you'd get worse than fired (jail time) if you messed up. Silly people.
Right? Wtf happened that we all became the bad guys? We had a room where healthcare workers could go to and cry or unwind. They really need to offer free grief counseling for everyone who worked through COVID, especially the beginning of it. I worked in the ICU, we couldn't understand why we were getting so many patients with pneumonia. We got them through it only to find every other organ system was failing too. I've been a nurse for 16 years, I've never seen so many people die so fast. Still can't talk about my last covid patient death without tearing up. COVID crushed all of us, and while we're trying to save them, we're being attacked.
I think it's sad how Sandy Hook made the nation stand still, but Uvalde is kinda just forgotten even though it claimed the title of the deadliest school shooting in US history
Unfortunately, Sandy Hook, Uvalde and Columbine attacks happen so often now here that the sheer number of them lowers their cultural impact. It is one of saddest things in the US and has been happening for more than three decades now.
@@turbochips6148there were 22 deaths total at Robb (Uvalde), there were 28 deaths total at Sandy Hook (Newtown) and niether of them is the deadliest. The deadliest was Virginia Tech, where 33 died. It isn’t a competition , but facts are important.
True. We are still feeling it, and still doing nothing about it. Heck, this could have been a top 20 list of mass shootings that grabbed all the attention and then were ignored.
When Queen Elizabeth was kicking off the countdown I thought it was going to be a good countdown. Then it was followed up with a submarine that I can't even remember. What happened to the Japan earthquake or the tsunami?
Kind of surprised no North Korean stuff was on here. Either Kim Jong-un taking power in 2011 or Trump being the first sitting US president to meet him. Definitely more important than the Titan submersible
Imo, many events could replace Titan on this list, but nothing about North Korea has made the world "stand still". So no, I don't agree with you on that part.
For me, it started as another day of second grade. I got out of bed, walked downstairs to eat my breakfast, and saw my folks watching the image of North Tower billowing smoke on live TV. I wasn't too naive not to realize that this was anything but an accident.
Also pisses me off how many people were sent to "look" for them... How much Tax Payers money went down the drain? But the workers on the Bridge that got hit not long ago, their search was called off last a day after. I understand they couldn't have surverive the water... but same the Rich dudes in their stupid Sub Toy. I am still feeling that there staged their death, the sub did drownd but i think they left before, were helped off and then the Sub was send back down.. Wouldn't shock me.... but that is only my way to deep in books brain...
Yes who cares they were rich dudes and not really inteligent. How could that affect us? The COVID and 911 really affected: the first one in health and with works the second US became more restricted with other countries and as usual blamed Afghanistan and Irak who let them destroyed 😢
This happened undter trump's "watch" (or golfing). Just think what could happen if he gets a 2nd term... not just project2025, which is horrifying enough.
you really think J6 is worse than the summer of love, where 2 billion dollars of destruction happened because throughout the United States? Jesus Christ ppl really do have the morals upside down.
I was 12 on 9/11. In 1st period math class. The teachers actually kept the news on until they realized that burning people were jumping voluntarily to their deaths. I remember seeing 2 people jump holding hands. THAT was unforgettable.
I was on the couch watching The Price Is Right with my gramma, when the feed was cut to report on the attack. We watched the second tower get hit on live TV while they were reporting on it. Prior to the second tower they were thinking (here anyway) that it was something like pilot error, or a complete loss of control of the aircraft. It wasn't until the second tower was hit that we realized that it was an attack.
I was about 10 years old and in the 6th grade when 9/11 happened, and I remember not really reacting in such a huge way because I didn’t fully understand the death and destruction and chaos and fear happening. It wasn’t until a few days later that I fully understood the gravity of what had happened.
A few days before 9/11 my older daughter, who was 16 flew the 4,200 kms (2,600 miles) from where we live in Australia to Bali on a school trip. My six year old daughter was distraught when she saw the footage of the Trade Centre buildings. I had to reassure her that her sister was safe in Bali and wasn't on one of the 9/11 planes. Ironically on October 12, 2002, one year, one month and one day after September 11 2001 there was a terrorist bombing in Bali. 202 people lost their lives, including 88 Australians, 38 Indonesians, and 23 Britons, along with people from more than 20 other nationalities.
The world didn't really cared about the Titan submersible. Sure, horrific thing to happen to someone but It's far from making the world stand still. Not even sure why it was included.
Maybe because it was a small vehicle that lost all communication and went missing in the ocean, then found destroyed a few days later with all five people gone.
@@brianorozco1074 It doesn't belong here at all. "Stupid people doing something insanely stupid, eff around and find out." Superstorm Sandy Paradise Wildfire in Commiefornia 2010 Haiti earthquake The so-called Arab Spring that ended up destabilizing the entire Middle East & allowing the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood and Islamism The ongoing mass illegal migration crisis The list goes on...
I love how the title of the video is "world stood still" even though the world couldn't care less about half of these. people in the west really live in their own planet
True. For us in europe the top events were Covid-Pandemic Russia attacked Urkain (I had to console colleges at the office.) Hamas-Attack on Israel Attack on Twin Towers the 2004 indean Ocean Tsunami and the Tsunami hiting Fokushima. (Especially it marked the end of nuclear energy for germany)
Say what you want about the Titan Submersible but Stockton Rush got what he deserved for ignoring numerous Safety issues and concerns. Dude thought he was untouchable.
Nah, almost cared about the Titan Submersible. Everyone just laughed after learning that the guy who funded the project cut corners and even disregarded expert advice. The only tragedy of that thing imploding was the kid who just wanted to go to a concert but was forced by his father to go with them on the trip.
Don't forget how he boasted about not hiring, "a bunch of 40-50yr old white men" and instead insisted on only hiring young 20-somethings & as many women as possible!! DIE hiring practices at their finest!lol
I was only a month old when 9/11 happened, and when saw the stories of it on the news and beyond, I was shocked and saddened that our country changed when I was so young. RIP to everyone who perished that fateful day.
I was in 6th grade. It’s really hard to describe how things changed even for a preteen. We remember how things were before, but the horrors we saw and were engrained into our developing brains were just terrible. Absolutely nothing was censored at that time.
Far out. all of these hit the feels. that summer of 2009 here in Melbourne was ridiculously hot. it was over 40 degrees celsius for weeks. the whole state of Victoria was bone dry that year because of the heat wave that seemed to go one forever. On black saturday it was about 50(that's over 120 degrees F). A lot of the fires were started by power lines failing on the day. The fire near my house was started accidently by a guy using an angle grinder. it was to say the least, bloody scary watching the black smoke and the fire a few kilometers away changing direction randomly with the wind blasting away. Full credit to the emergency services personel for the amazing work they did on the day and in the many weeks following.
I think that the hype around the submersible was so widespread because of the sheer, mind-blowing absurdity of it. Every piece of that event was so insanely bizarre, and it only became stranger and stranger. I don't think it was so much about people caring about it so much as it was about them being curious about it. I mean, it was such a unique situation; so unique that it was almost unbelievable.
True, a small vehicle carrying five people suddenly going missing somewhere in the ocean with no possible way of communicating with it. Then being found destroyed a few days later with all of the passengers gone.
These are definitely some of the worst and most horrific things in recent history. Admittedly, I'm sad to see the notradame fire wasn't included, though.
I will never forget March 12th of 2020, I was a junior in high school and it was during my 4th period when we got an announcement on our school speakers that Covid became a pandemic and that we are to immediately go home and that school will resume in 2 weeks. I never stepped foot in school grounds since. 😢
I was in my early college years when the pandemic started. During a speech course I had, I think my professor said something about us doing different lessons if the pandemic started soon. The very next day after that, the campus was closed and all classes were canceled.
I was in the 6th grade, also having been told we would have 2 weeks off. At first, we were all happy we could have two weeks off, not understanding the magitude of it. Then the two weeks turned into a month. Then another. And another. And (yall understand)
The Titan submersible deserved an honorable mention at best, but not to be actually on the list. The Indian Ocean tsunami affected people all over the world because of the numbers of people who were from those countries living elsewhere with family and friends still in the areas affected. My son’s daycare provider and her husband were from Sri Lanka. He, along with other members of their community, set out to raise money for their countrymen who lost everything. We have a pretty large Indian and Sri Lankan community where I live and they turned out in a big way to help. If I remember correctly, they raised a couple hundred thousand dollars pretty quickly. Anoma’s husband was recognized for his leadership in their efforts, not only here, but also in Sri Lanka. Their fundraising helped rebuild several towns and helped fishermen replace their destroyed fishing vessels.
5:02 I was literally held still because I lived right across the Staple Center where Michael Jackon’s funeral a held. There were so many people I couldn’t get out of my building
It’s sad that nobody cares about Haiti , they were struck by a powerful earthquake then a powerful hurricane thousands died located few miles from us n we just ignore them even today with they chaos going on there but we care about what happens at the other side of the world. Also Fukushima should’ve been there at #2 in this list
Fact Check: Trump was still speaking when the rioters broke through the fencing after prodding from FBI plants. Trump also expressed that there would be a peaceful march to the Capitol.
Delusional much? And how long did it take Trump to tell people to go home? The religious right supporting a serial adulterer, rapist and business cheat is about right. You guys have no morality.
I was working for a large travel wholesaler when 9/11 happened. Besides all the confusion, the grounding of planes meant we had thousands of customers literally stranded around the globe. I was a "special desk" worker who was responsible for handling difficult situations and customers. I dont need to tell you what the rest of the week was like.
Covid ruined my high school life. I was 17 when it started, in my senior year. My graduation was all but canceled, I lost friends and family to it, and some friends I never saw again after we graduated. My 18th birthday was nonexistent and I couldn’t even see my family. Easily the worst years of my life.
What was so impactful about a bunch of privileged rich people dying in a crap amateur made sub, not beig guided by actual experienced divers but another rich guy? Everbody could figure out what would happen. Most people forgot about it after a month..
An event that hits close to home for me were the Gatlinburg, TN fires that juvenile boys purposely set. These fires ragged from Nov 23 to Dec 22, 2016. I live an hour away, and because the winds were so bad, we had debris and soot covering our area in Johnson City, TN. The fires killed 14 people, displaced thoudans of people, legendary landmarks burnt to the ground and almost 18,000 acres gone. It was devastating to see.
2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami should not only be on this list, but in the top 10. The devastation and concern as a result, including a nuclear meltdown, had the world gripped and racing to help. Then there was the coverage, something that no one had ever seen before and something I know everyone who was old enough to understand it has never forgotten, literally watching as a huge line of water, crashed over and destroyed everything in its path, all seen from a news helicopter. It was genuinely shocking coverage.
The Las Vegas shooting happened a week before I flew there for vacation. Seeing the Mandalay Bay hotel closed after the disaster, and the memorial for the victims. It was very chilling
I'm glad the OKC got honorable mention... i was three blocks away to see half of a girl body crushed by debris...unreal all life is precious, live it to the best of your ability
@@lonewander6772 Were those riots in the Capitol Building? The fact that a mob of people wanted to overthrow an election based on a sitting presidents lie, is insane. And don't act like if they had gotten to the politicians, that it would have been peaceful.
My favorite musician Buckethead also wrote one of his best songs in memory of Micheal Jackson (who was a huge and early influence on him), Honing Beacon off of his album Electric Sea (2012). I highly recommend listening to the whole album it’s amazing!!
Why are you surprised? Apparently Americans think America is the only country in the world. I guarantee you nobody outside of America gave a fuck about the submarine imploding
I remember the 9/11 attack as a crazy thing on the news. I was at work during the time I heard about it on radio in Norway, and I was quite shocked to be honest. When it comes to the 2004 earthquake and tsunami in Asia, I was half asleep when my dad rushed down the stairs to where my bedroom was, and said that there had been some catastrophic event in Asia somwhere. I had to watch it on the news, and later I realised that what I saw was something that no one had predicted before. I don't think I even had read it online before it had happened that day,and now when I see a documentary about it, it still feels just like the first time I saw the news flash. Just crazy.
I work as a custodian in a school, I remember Covid very well. Once everything was shut down coming in every day to clean the same stuff over and over again even though nobody used it. Then when kids came back having to heavily disinfect stuff when a kid tested positive, it was nuts. Now we are back to like it never happened.
Don't get me wrong, the death of the Queen and Nelson Mandela were sad. It was a day given to happen their age and health the world knew would happen. Unlike when Princess Diana died back in 1997. Events that could have been on here in no particular order are 1. Miracle on the Hudson 2. Sandy hook 3. Ulvade shooting 4. Space shuttle Columbia explosion. 5. The Boston marathon bombing. 6. Pulse shooting. 7. Aurora shooting. 8. Earthquakes in Haiti, Japan, and Nepal. 9. Hurricane Sandy and Harvey. 10. Mall shooting in Kenya. 11. 2009 pandemic 12. School shooting in Florida. 13. Capture of Sadam Hussain. 14. 2016 bombings in New York and New Jersey Came to mind.
They put Jan 6th on the list but there was only 1 murder that day and it was a 12 year veteran being shot by capitol police. They want to claim 5 died so they use the terms "as a result" and "in connection to" so they claim deaths that occurred up to 36 hours later regardless of the cause of death being natural causes and drug overdose. Ignoring the calls for security (by the chief of capitol police himself) and police that moved aside barricades and unlocked doors while informants in the crowd (that go unpunished to this day) orchestrated everything. But sure put it above terrorist bombings, Deepwater Horizon oil spill, Beirut explosion and las Vegas shooting that killed countless people...
Amen. This channel also failed to mention a large majority of those in attendance were undercover feds, as well as Antifa. They also failed to show the guided tours the capitol police were giving. The people who do this show are your typical gaslighting democrats who deal in delusions and not facts.
Honestly, nothing in my life changed during Covid.. I think that the longest we were ever in lockdown was 2 weeks.. and even that was cut short by an approaching bushfire. I was excited to spend 2 weeks with my kids! We appreciate you, Mark McGowan!
About time you included the Manchester Arena bombing in a video. This is one of your best videos ever. I remember all of these events very clearly. 1. The Death of Michael Jackson was a very big deal and it was so devastating. Like how can you not put the death of the King of Pop on a world events list? 2. The Manchester Arena bombing broke my heart into pieces, Ariana Grande's handling of this awful attack was fantastic, she was so compassionate and so heroic for putting on a huge concert for the survivors of the maelstrom that occurred that night and she bravely continued the tour. I went and saw her on September 5th 2017 in Melbourne. 3. 9/11 was one of the scariest events that I have ever seen. It will never be forgotten. 4. The Black Saturday bushfires happened in the state that I live in and we had a ton of smoke and ash here in Mount Beauty. It was one of the most terrifying disasters that I have faced in my lifetime.

I remember being completely glued to my TV for weeks when the Japan earthquake and tsunami happened. I couldn't believe it.
Ya, that was awful.
Thank you for recognising the Black Saturday fires in Australia. A day we will never forget
The 13 thai kids rescued from the cave was a big one
It sure was. I would have actually put that, Fukushima, Sandy Hook, and a couple others as honorable mentions.

How about those 33 Chilean miners that trapped for 69 days!??
The "thank you healthcare workers" sign got me.... Remember when we were heroes for 2 weeks and everyone banged pots and cheered outside the hospital? That kicked off 4 years of the most verbal and physical abuse I've ever received as a nurse from my patients. I came home with bruises all over my body some days from being punched or beat. We were screamed at and cursed as" agents of the government that's spreading lies and killing people on purpose" as we worked mandatory overtime trying everything to save them.
I almost forgot those two weeks of heroism until I saw that sign. Good times.
I am so sorry you had to suffer that.
I'm in healthcare too. Yeah BC the media had people scared over a virus engineered for Fear. But no one needs to take it out on healthcare workers
The non-stop TikTok dances didn’t help.
I’m shocked Sandy Hook didn’t make the list. Maybe it was just an America thing, but it defiantly made a lot of places stand still.
I think it's sad how Sandy Hook made the nation stand still, but Uvalde is kinda just forgotten even though it claimed the title of the deadliest school shooting in US history
I think that the Sandy Hook AND the Uvalde shootings should have been mentioned.

The Hot Shots were almost more local tragedy. If not for the movie, most people wouldn't know about them.
Why was the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster not part of this?

Because they had to put the imaginary Trump Insurreection. Same reason why they left out the fires in Hawaii.

202 people lost their lives, including 88 Australians, 38 Indonesians, and 23 Britons, along with people from more than 20 other nationalities.

that summer of 2009 here in Melbourne was ridiculously hot. it was over 40 degrees celsius for weeks. the whole state of Victoria was bone dry that year because of the heat wave that seemed to go one forever.
