  • How Did Humans Discover Climate Change? | Flashback with Palki Sharma
Climate change and global warming are among the most discussed topics in the 21st century. But how did humans discover them in the first place? How did we realise that the earth is getting warmer?

The whole crux of their plan seems to be "Let us cut emissions". And, it is from that objective, they are coming up with all kinds of solutions - some hypocritical, some paradoxical and some short sighted (all of which you know).
My argument and approach are very different. It is about making "slight" adjustments to our lifestyle/mindset that, nevertheless, yield great positive impact on the entire planet (No, I'm not talking about any crazy ideas like the WEF folks are recommending). It is a wholistic approach that not only slows down climate change, but also gives Mother Earth, and "all" life that she nurtures, a breather.
I will just give one example. Making improvements to our consumption pattern. No, there is no need for panic, I'm NOT talking about living an ascetic life, living a life of self-imposed poverty or handing over our lives to someone else's control! Hell, NO!😄
Take for example the electronic items we use. Rather than replacing them every two or so years, keep using them a little longer. That results in reduction in frequency of those things being sent to waste/recycling (a reduction in energy in that entire chain of events), lesser number of trips that shipping trucks need to make to deliver new products to us (reduction in emissions, wear/tear leading to lesser frequency waste/recycle, etc.), lesser frequency/number of items that a factory needs to make those items (a reduction in energy, obviously), and obviously less amount of resources we need to extract from Earth (reduction in that resource and all the energy it takes in the entire chain). Now, we know what the counter argument is. The economy, right? Corporations have this insatiable need to produce more to generate more revenues, and a country, too, uses this output as "success & health" of its economy or as the overarching measure of success. But, we all need to come to an understanding that that way of measuring a nation's health is not a sustainable way to live, long term! I am not saying that countries need to be like Bhutan, but the entire success of a country does not need to be based entirely on "material wealth" either, right? "How we live" is also important.
Another example is this. Just look at all things we humans are selling as "happiness", and see the negative effects they are having on the planet. Take going out on long distance trips as just one small example. Again, I am NOT saying not to take such trips (I would be a hypocrite, myself, if I said that!). What I am saying is, rather than making out-of-town pleasure trips every weekend, why not do it every two weeks... or once a month? (This may not be that much of a happening in India, but it is in the West and other parts of the world.)
There are many other examples (including, for example, the food we eat and work/learn from home - at least part of the time... you know, small changes), but this comment will get even more lengthy. But, I have no doubt that you got the essence of what it is I am trying to say.
SMALL ADJUSTMENTS, when done by many millions of us... go a long way! (I.e., the compounding effect!)
P.S. Thanks for that history on climate change. Very informative! I will have to say that some of our 21st century scientists are not exactly what we can be proud of...! They can't even speak the honest truth, without bias or agenda! And, hypocritical... That too!

Will share our part as citizen with this: "COP33 Bharat: Regenerative Ecology, Sustaining Prosperity" 2028
Bharat invites each and everyone to create a synergy between a sustainable economy and a preserved, regenerated ecology. At COP33, we aim to highlight the interdependence between economic prosperity and environmental health, focusing on regenerative practices that foster a balanced ecosystem while sustaining growth and well-being.
      Key Objectives:
Regenerative Ecology: To explore and implement innovative strategies for restoring ecosystems, reducing carbon emissions and promoting biodiversity.
Sustaining Prosperity: Discuss and devise sustainable economic models that support ecological balance and equitable growth.
This vision of our honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, is a call to action, a beacon of hope and a promise of transformation. It is a testament to his dedication, passion and unwavering commitment to the people and the future of our Nation.
With fervor in his heart and determination in his eyes, our Prime Minister envisions a Bharat that stands tall on the global stage. A Bharat that is not just prosperous but inclusive, where every citizen, regardless of their background or circumstances has equal opportunities to thrive and succeed.
His vision encapsulates the dreams of millions, echoing the aspirations of the youth who seek avenues to excel, the farmers who toil for the nation's sustenance, the innovators yearning to revolutionize industries and the marginalized longing for empowerment.
To honor this vision is to breathe life into it, to work tirelessly towards a Bharat where education is not a privilege but a fundamental right, where healthcare reaches the farthest corners, where technology acts as a catalyst for progress and where diversity is celebrated as the cornerstone of strength.
It's about fostering an environment where entrepreneurship flourishes, where sustainable practices safeguard our environment and where social harmony prevails over discord. It is about building bridges both metaphorical and physical that connect every corner of our diverse Nation, creating a tapestry of unity amidst diversity.
The honor lies in every step we take to actualize this vision. Be it through community initiatives, policy advocacy or individual contributions. It is in nurturing a collective mindset that embraces the values of compassion, resilience and inclusivity.
Together, as citizens, it is our collective responsibility to weave this vision into the fabric of our reality. Let's work hand in hand, not just for the present generation but for posterity, to ensure that our Prime Minister's vision for Bharat becomes an everlasting legacy, a testament to the strength of unity, perseverance and unwavering dedication to the betterment of our Nation and her people.
      We preserve. Protect. Aware. Regrow

So the journalists talking about climate change.
Ask them to remove AC from their offices, stop wearing make up, stop wearing fancy clothes (both require hydrocarbons and increase CO2).
Politians are worried about immediate solutions. They need to bring large populations out of poverty. Journalists - only scare and not provide economical solutions. That is also left to the politicians!

      @divyan:
So if Politicians and Scientists ALL traveled by Sailboat and Bicycle, then we would REALLY fix Climate Change and its subset, Global Warming?
      Yeah, Right!
You imply that individuals acting as persons, will be enough to "fix" Climate Change, which is a false assumption.
When we were faced with building enough weapons to defeat the Axis Powers in WWII, the choices of a SINGLE person could not affect the outcome of the War.
But when the Government financed the Weapons Production of private Corporations, then, we could have Willow Run, Henry Ford's airplane Factory in Michigan.
At its height, it was producing 23 B-25 Bombers every 24 hours!
Later, when we wanted to go to the Moon, it was GOVERNMENT, again working with industry, which build the Saturn V and the Lunar and Command Modules.
But the funny thing is that when "Conservatives" look at Government doing ANYTHING about the Climate, they invariably call it "SOCIALISM"!
      WHY is that?
Well, it WOULD be funny, if it did not involve an existential threat to the Human Race.

Climate science should be less political, while climate policies should be more scientific. Scientists should openly address uncertainties and exaggerations in their predictions of global warming, while politicians should dispassionately count the real costs as well as the imagined benefits of their policy measures.

The whole thing is a political psychological operation on the people, they've even appropriated the definition of climate change, the official description of climate change describes ANTHROPOGENIC climate change. It's called brainwashing or conditioning. Unless they want to say the climate hasn't changed continuously since the earth was formed.

Politicians will act but very slowly. People need to voice more opinions. As long as they can satisfy with 1kg of rice and get votes, climate change will continue. Educated need to demand the govt! A school has to bring this awareness based on the scientific research. Most younger generation are in the race to compete for marks and prosper. We need to make them think and awakening the younger generation is a long term solution.

Do you deny the average global temperature on Earth has increased by about 0.8° Celsius (1.4° Fahrenheit) since 1880, and that two-thirds of this warming has occurred since 1975, at a rate of roughly 0.15-0.20°C per decade, which is a rate of warming that is 10x faster than the gradual warming that ended the last glacial period.

Wherever coal usage was acclerated for the purpose of heating water to produce steam for the purpose of
generating power( heating to 400C and above at 45kgs/cm) Or for genersting steam - heating water to 180C and above at 8 kgs/CM pressure - enormous coal or wood is burnt - This practise is still prevalent in most industries.
Methods developed to save steam are insufficient.
Every poor nation is punished to live with this kind of coal burning or wood burning methodilogy even now is the scenerio.
Automobiles emissions does create huge impact of the city and it's surrounding across the world.
Prevention of using electric vehicles by fossil fuel sellers in the past 7 decades also created havoc on climate change.
People who have to burn wood continuously throughout the year, not at their factories but at their homes in siberia , greenland and iceland and other scandinavian countries are also indirectly( unfortunately) responsible for the emissions.
The irony is poor nations burn coal for alleviating hunger.
Frigid zone countries peoole. burn coal for their survival...

While the public are concerned about global warming many governments have their own reservations to take serious action to contain the problem. This is unfortunate for coming generations

The question is what can public do about it?
The question is from what we have seen so far it’s more than likely the 21st century politicians would not act at all or soon enough; in that case why wouldn’t we the public come together and change lifestyle to minimize the industrial dependency and improve human and planet health because it is true that industrial products have made human and planet more unhealthy.

Sometimes I feel bad when I see world leaders caming together to discuss about climate change. Telling us to plant more trees 🌳 as to protect the environment.this trees take yes to grow. But when back to their various countries manufacturers weapons that can destroy the world in some few seconds.
