I just now realized that itachi was under the influence of kotoamatsukami and could not for that reason answer sasuke when he found out about the seals and canceled edo tensei, because sasuke said that he wanted to destroy the village, and he could not bypass the illusion that changed forcibly his perception of reality.
This is crazzy! Never even got that thought in my mind!

Actually what happened to Sasuke, besides Obito, its really mostly cause of Itachis and Konohas fault. Uchihas slaughter was unjust too, but this not object of discussion now. Still that played huge role in Sasuke going to truly dark side when he quite justifiably, at least logicaly from his point of view and cause of Obito manipulations, decided to destroy Konoha. Itachi himself said that he fault for what happened with Sasuke, and what he is far from perfect, why someone still keep rejecting this.
Its not itachi being modest, he good man, but he really messed up a lot of things and had chose wrong path. Im not about killing all clan, that was wrong for sure, but from side of Konoha government, Itachi was wrong not trying hard(or at all) to change clan and mediate beetwen clan and Konoha. Actually he was kinda prejudiced cause of issues with his dad, and saw it clan only and dark light, choosing Konohas side partly cause he didnt like clan much.
Yeah he done what he done to save whole Konoha from war. But hey, he just ignored what konoha was unjust to Uchihas, repressed and pushed moraly on them, and fact what Konoha provoked Uchihas and what Uchihas had all reasons to think Konoha want them to slowly dissapear, so they took radical actions. So that partly everyone fault, but still Uchihas are far less fault and victims there, Konoha the criminals, Itachi tool of that criminals.
He believed he betrayed clan cause they was going wrong path and etc., but still i cannot not to think what maybe even cold minded and just Itachi chose Konohas side cause he was kinda offended by the clan, because of disagreement with its policy and rules within clan and his family, what quite childish, but hey, he was genius, but still a kid. It not justification for him, just argument what he done wrong cause he also was a child and not so smart and broad-minded back then, like everyone thinks.
So Itachi cool character and good guy who done wrong. He is icon of tragic kind character who thinked he do all for better, but its was for worse. Still i dont get why almost everyone pay attention to his personal tragic story part and dont do that to that part where he made Sasuke go dark path. That not speaking about what only minority of people try to fully anylise that whole Konoha-Uchihas-Sasuke situation and even them mostly thinks what Uchihas and Sasuke was anf done 100%wrong just cause they was on another side from their belowed Itachi to whom they are sympathetic because of his dramatic and compex story)
I agree what he hero of Leaf in not best sence. I mean 3rd Hokage and Konoha just sit not really trying to solve problems and then when tensions was rising decided to wipe out Uchiha just for fact they planned revolt which Konoha provoked bey their doings, and that was fully jujist and medssed up from Honoha side. So in that sense Itachi rather "hero" than real hero, WW2 german generals was too heroes for their people, but not in common sence. But in terms of personal trials and the fact that he stood it all Itachi are mentaly hero, and he kinda saved world, i mean main characters anyway could won war without that, but that save many lifes. But hey, even if Itachi some kind o hero, he still ambiguous and controversial person, and hero actually too, he messed up personally killing his clan and family, moreover in unjust act of saving that Konoha what didnt care about Uchihas and Itachi himself was blinds to that and what he done mostly maked Sasuke leave the Konoha and being vulnerable to the influence of villains and the Indra-Asura Сurse of Hate
I still like Itachi but with big indulgences/"but". Even i ready to partly undestand Itachi and dont be very hard on him cause of his tragic story, and all people can do mistakes. But still its mistakes and what people justreject this even when Itachi said personally what he messed up, and ots very strange. Even more in contrast to the fact that most of people is not so understanding towards Sasuke and the Uchihas) So it pisses me off, it's just stupid, biased and unfair.
Why people blindly ready to forgive, even not to start blaiming one character who messed up a lot, and praising him like a perfect hero - Itachi, and just didnt want much to anylise situation of another chacter and give him even bit of understanding and forgieving - Sasuke. At least not before he go to the light side and attone his sins, Itachis in another hand was chosen like untouchable god in moment when story of killing his whole clan and saving Sasuke by this was shown to viewers, before he attoned his sins by telling Sasuke the truth and undoing Reanimation Jutsu) And even now whe Sasuke returned to the light people thinks what he a very contrversial chacter who messed up very lot, despite the fact that its big part of Itachi fault and another persons, their actions and etc., and despite the fact that what Itachi actually messed up not less than Sasuke in many senses if look wildely on situation, if didnt think what Konoha and Itachi = always and fully right just cause main cracter lives here and defends it, and Itachi have a sad and tragic story) So yeah, Itachi just a man, good man but who done a lot of things wrong, so please think not only by momentary emotions and its affections(its good, but some anylises too), and be less understanding and more objective towars Itachi and more understanding and more objective towards Sasuke.

Looking back at this years later, it was nothing but bad writing by Kishimoto. So many plotholes. But it achieved its purpose by attracting an emotional response from fans.

@captaincrunch6044 Obito's entire character is a plothole itself to advance the Shippuden War arc. There are entire Reddit threads on this topic. You can search them up. Hopefully, they haven't been archived. Pain/Nagato is still the best written villian by Kishimoto.
