- Governmental red tape has kept 300 affordable housing units at the Georgetown development in Fairfield standing as a ghost town of former military homes.
The grounds near Travis Air Force Base include sprawling grassy areas, playgrounds, a tennis court, basketball court, and plenty of parking near the numerous apartment buildings.
But for the last decade, the community has largely been abandoned, despite attempts by the developer to get the housing back online.

They should at least make them available for the Vets.... come on now!!!

36 million to "renovate" apartments that look like they are in excellent condition already? Am I missing something here?
Most of it will go into the pockets of the rich and greedy as usual.
The City of Fairfield says "Why help if you don't have to?"
Open them for veterans
Squatters!!!!!! We got a target!!!!!
There are so many people who need it. Now
It's a liability issue. And the city has refused to spend the money to take on said liability.
02:48 Yup. No immediate access to schools, retail outlets, public transportation, and emergency services. Fix up the place, fine! Turn on the water, fine. But, the lack of services is a big issue.
@@juicyfruit6311 Lack of services is a big issue? An issue to who? Are you the mayor? Why not let the people who want to live there decide if that's a problem or not?
@@juicyfruit6311 there is public transportation, there is schools and emergency services, and most all "retail outlets " are closed. So no, it's not a big issue.
that lady with two kids?SCAM...
Gypsies
They converted the military homes in Alameda California to affordable housing for the public
Good
Apples and oranges. Totally different setting.
Add to that the old military housing was demolished and new modern homes were built in their place.
Bureaucracy to the highest form. Can they contact our Congress men and women?
Congress don't give a rat's ass.
The vets deserve these homes.
Mayor & Gov ?
Follow the money and you will find your answers. Obviously some big political donors don't want these apartments to come online. I suspect the owners of the nearest major R.E. development wrote a fat campaign check to the good mayor. In fact I'd bet money on it.
Hey...Wurthsmith AFB in Oscoda, Michigan gave up the ones they had, and now they are all occupied. All have been purchased by civilians.
The goverment should invested in to fixed the water sistem
It's a disadvantage for low income residents, but them living on the streets isn't? Even if the base didn't want to share their water they can at least keep it closed until they build a new water supply line. I rather it be closed for another two years than to just have them throw their hands up and let it sit another decade.
Not just housing. The homeless needs food, water, electricity and....drugs.
Yep, and lighters to set the apartment complex on fire, as they always obsess with pyromania.
Well China built 122 miles of road for 260,000 people in 11 townships in 1800 square mile of mountainous territory. So why can't our government fix the water supply to help home the homeless vet or any other deserving willing workers who are homeless.
apts don't look like they need 36mil renovations.... they can't build a different water system? y doesn't the base use it anymore?
David Boatright THANK U FOR UR SERVICE! Man his outfit CLEAN, I love that sweatshirt he wearing
The city of Fairfield doesn't give a s*** Or they would get rid of half of their crooked police staff.
There are valid reasons for not letting people live there. I know the development, it is right outside the north gate to Travis. When it was housing Air Force people, Travis took on the responsibility for the utilities and emergency services. Access to the commissary and medical services were just down the road. As we’re the schools on base. For civilians it would be a different story. People living there would be miles from any public services, fire, police, medical. Even the nearest store is miles away as are public schools. Access is served by a narrow two lane road that has to cross an active rail crossing.
Get rid of the military, we have Nuclear weapons as a deterrent.
There's schools, stores, fire department right down the street in foxboro and emergency services are not an issue.
I want my tax money back. I have lived in fairfield for 60 years, I am ashamed of it now.
Is its good to see empty house
Lmao my jets looks so miserable compared to this we dont even got central ac c'mon now its 2023
homeless people would just trash those units..
Everyone
keep the EGO in check let the water flow. It was free to begin with.
Excuse excuses that's why the problem continues to grow.
Sooooo redirect the Water.
From Vietnam vets to Iraq vets they all been treated like shit from our governments thank you all veterans for serving our country
At least for the vets! Going to war for America 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
why doesn't the BLM organization use some of those millions, billions in donations to help build housing and programs to help with self sufficiency?
What does BLM have to do with any of this? This is a Veteran vs City matter. I'm so tired of ignorance! It's exhausting... 😪
How about the ones who stole the land donate all that they stole to renovate.
@@TS-bw9crlike your own? This is a homeless vs city matter
