Why should the government cause you to move if own and live in an affordable property if you obtained it legally? If your deed restrictions and home owners association state you must live in your home at the time of purchase and you choose to move and rent it out then yes you should be prosecuted. If this is your first property but you choose to purchase other properties and continue to live in this one and rent those out then that should be your business. If your HOA and deed don't say no Airbnb like rental agreements while you ocuppy the property or go on vacation or have to travel for work then they need to leave them alone if this is their primary residence. The next person is just going to get around all these rules by purchasing property in someone else's name, like a child and still make the same money. People should not be punished for finding a way to be successful and forced to buy a more expensive home.

Even then grandfather clauses exist. Future sales need to have it in writing that they can't sublet and once they reach a certain income level they need to sell the property.

I live in far northern Cali, (4 hours drive north of S.F.) pay far far less in rent for a 2,000 sq. ft. home on 3 acres. We pay than half of what they charge in the City for rent for an apartment. And a million dollar home here compared to there or L.A., well, here it;s a mansion or a large ranch.
This also goes on with low income apartment rentals. I live in San Diego at the first GLBT senior citizen housing. There's a lot of crazy stuff that goes on here that just gets pushed under the rug. There is a lesbian couple that has their apartment on Airbnb and also "12 Stepper" recovery program to rent out to help these people that's actually listed on the internet. They got busted finally but they're still living here and still listed on the internet for rent. Pushed under the rug again... There's a waiting list and people waiting to get on the waiting list for this place. Smells fishy doesn't it?
