I listened to the sound test three times, and surprisingly I prefer the sound of the MX Browns. You mentioned the Black Jacket is the best light-medium tactile with a long pole, but how does it compare to the Akko V3 cream blue switch, another (im my opinion) light-medium tactile switch with a long pole?
Wow, the tactile bump on that like button is so pleasant 😌 almost as pleasant as on the moondrop tessence in their stock form! You should give them a try!
love me some light tactiles so I gotta try these, I still stan MX browns but recently have been really enjoying Corsas on my FBTKL, the black jackets sound right up my alley!
Hi, you briefly mentioned that you lube the top housing of your switches which I found fascinating as a lot of people and lube guide makers alike neglect to talk about that in further detail. Would you be able to share the process for lubing top housings for someone that's relatively new to the hobby? Love your videos on switches by the way, your detailed analysis and thoughts are highly appreciated, thanks for them!
absolutely! So lubing the top housing dampens the return sound pretty heavily, and in general will lead to a slightly muted, but more "tight" return sound. I lube both stem top rails and basically the contact points on the north and south sides of the top housing, where there are usually little bumps to improve switch wobble. Here's an old imgur album that shows all the contact points to lube! imgur.com/a/hijSYcp Hope this helps!
@@MakerMods Mate, that's an incredible resource that you shared there, and thank you for the lubing instructions! By the off chance you see this, have you tried the Owlab Neon Switches before? Curious about your thoughts on them.
This comment might turn out to be longer than anyone cares to read... bear with me lol. The whole take of "browns suck" is one of those interesting things in the hobby where its objectively true... but it doesn't matter if people still enjoy them. That's what's so cool about this hobby, preference is so huge that people can fully enjoy and prefer something even if its objectively bad or outdated. I am typing on stock black jackets right now and really like them. One of my favorite truly light tactiles though would have to be gateron browns if I'm being completely honest. Right now, specifically pro milky browns because they sound so good stock in the right board. Its just the light spring (even lighter than cherry browns) paired with that light tactility is a really nice sensation. I personally feel as though the black jackets would be more tactile with a lighter spring, so the spring choice here is nice. I'm not disagreeing with any of your points, I am just way too passionate about tactile switches of all kinds. Thanks coming to my TED talk.
Have you tried a long (16 to 19 mm) single-stage spring in Black Jackets? Something like 50g to 60g bottom out. I'm curious how they perform because 2+ stage springs make tactiles sharper even when not intended by the switch's design. As someone who has experimented so much with springs, tactiles perform best with 1-stage long/XL springs while linears with extended, 2-stage or longer springs. Cheers.
@@justanotherpxrson Kelowna is your budget friend! Their quality is fantastic. They have 16mm and 18.5mm 1-stage springs, and 20mm 2-stage springs. I have all three of them and they're super good. Durock's gold 1-stage XL springs are a top notch too! I have the 63.5g variant and it's amazing. The actual bottom out force in my test is around 57g so that's even better for me personally as that's my personal sweet spot.
I got into the hobby with some gateron g pro browns, which I really liked, so I'm always interested in a light tactile video. While it's still small compared to linears, I feel like there have been a number of light tactiles lately - invokeys blueberry Chiffons, ktt mallos, aflion x punkshoo melodies, and further back we had pewters and cotton candies. And now these. I guess I'm gonna have to try them all! Thanks for the awesome content, as always!
I haven't tried the black jackets but I did get some v1 blueberry chiffons a bit ago, and I really like them after lubing. Haven't used my gat browns again in a long long time
While I agree that the MX Brown can be refined, I'm not sure if I agree with the judgement that these are an acoustic improvement. The mid-tones on the upstroke come off as out-of-place, and I find that I prefer the more poppy sound profile of the worn-in browns even if it does have some flaws. I would venture to say that, compared to RNDKBD's Browns, these are more of a sidegrade unless there is a strong improvement to the precision of the tactility.
Wait, they are still producing MX Brown??? I thought Glarses said that he will convinces the CEO of Cherry to stop the production of MX Brown when he went to Germany lol.
I've got mx browns in two "endgame" boards and they are great. The sound and feel is just too good. Broken-in, spring swapped, lubed/filmed and I can't find anything better. I've tried so many different switches and just keep coming back to them. So I have to disagree on your points about mx browns.
Haha, I totally agree that there is a certain appeal to cherry switches; I have MX reds in one of my endgame builds, but I think my thought process behind this video and overall blanket statements that a certain switch is "better" is primarily in the amount of work that's needed to get to peak performance! I judge most of my switches based on stock performance, because in the current state of the hobby there are so many switches that come ready to go right out of the box :D
@@MakerMods actually was going to make a comment about the meteor oranges myself! I haven’t typed on browns in a long time, but from one of Shoobs’ videos on light tactiles (maybe the pewter or cotton candy), I think he said the meteor orange tactility was less than an MX Brown. I have meteor oranges and Corsas on hand, and the meteor oranges are really quite light, and offer a pretty clacky leaning sound, but I really enjoy them for feel! Corsas have more tactility and a less clacky sound, but it really depends on the board. I honestly am hooked on light tactiles, and have been considering picking up the black jackets. Now they’re on my wish list!
@@MakerMods alright, i believe it is the true replacement to mx browns since, 1, smoother, 2 similar clacky sound and rich signature as the mx housing. i used sp star sacremento(sp star meteor white recolor, also both are nylon housings) with double stage springs and it sounded good, after i cherry top them, they were end game, if not *the endgame* switch. i tried cherry mx browns and i like them, so i wanted to try out sp star orange, but hard to find in my area

Could you please make a video about fixing leaf ping on jwk switches? they make good products, but leaf noise completely ruins the experience
He doesn’t cover glaring negatives
Absolutely! I tackle leaf noise in a few different steps so I’ll whip something up! Thanks for the great idea!
JWK leaf tick is the reason I'll never ever buy a JWK-made switch. I had Nebula linears and I sold them.
Long pole makes these wholly distinct from MX browns & not really comparable. I think Pewters have already taken the "better" MX brown role also.
Hey maker, do you happen to do jiu jitsu or judo?
I noticed you have a cauliflower ear on the right :D
Haha I used to wrestle in high school!
