    "Drive them : for every pound of money you spend on petrol, you save two on maintenance". That is quite insightful. I have found that to be true, even with lesser cars. More owners should take note.

    I am driving my '94 Silver Spur III every day. Most important comment: Drive your Rolls (this also applies for Silver Shadows as well due to ,but not only,hydraulic system) as daily driver and you compensate higher fuel expenses with low maintenance. These are perfect cars to drive, not to store ! Upgrade Silver Shadow with Harvey Bailey suspension kit and you have a modern driving experience.

      Great comment. I’ve owned my ‘89 Spur for sixteen years, longest time between drives was when I was refurbishing the engine at 320,000k. Been all over Australia, only been on a tow truck once when I lost an alternator. If you drive them once a month, all the seals dry out, the mineral oil degrades, it costs more to drive it less.
      I’m currently doing the paint - original Bright Oyster - and I’ve found myself searching for videos to watch other people drive theirs while mine is gone. I think I’m in withdrawal.

    The Silver Spirit and Spur, and for that matter even the Silver Seraph, I've often felt are unfairly maligned because they're more boxy than the Silver Shadow or Silver Cloud that came before it, but truly they're still able and superbly built machines, and the later versions especially would make for very good daily drivers as long as they're regularly maintained. :)

    I've long been a fan of this era of RR & Bentley. The Turbo R, I especially love, and today it remains one of my all-time favorite cars. What I'd never know though is that RR also turbo charged some of their cars. Ok, I doubt it's the same size turbo as the turbo R, but I could be wrong, and it probably doesn't handle as well, being as RR is much more about ride comfort than cornering ability. Either way it must be surprisingly good fun to drive.

    Bottom to mid range RR’s and Bentley’s have been the same money for about 15 years, it’s mad to think about the value they represented back then but when comparing them to cars of the same era and their values today it makes you realise that these will be the last classic cars to increase in value and desirability. I’ll continue to keep a very close eye on these.

      @marklowry8799 3 роки тому

      @@manofweed1 I doubt very much the spares and running costs for this series RR are anything like a modern day RR or Bentley, reliability is probably as good, if not better. I’ve experienced this first hand with 10 year old Jaguars and Bentleys, servicing and spares are high priced even at specialist garages. I’m quite sure though that these RR’s are an unusual exception to the rule of expensive running costs of classic luxury cars, hence them being suggested as a daily driver in this video.

      @attilacsepe4946 3 роки тому +2

      The Silver Spirit is the short, or normal wheel-base version. The Silver Spur is the long-wheel base version (4 inches added to the rear). This platform (Spirit/Spur) was produced from 1980 to 1998, and encompasses 4 generations, or series. Each series introduced variations, upgrades, modifications etc. The series III, produced from 1993 to 1996, introduced dual airbags and Bosch Motronic fuel injection, among others. The series III had a special version with rear seat heaters and traction control - and that special version was called the Silver Dawn.

But I believe I was correct in suggesting that the Silver Dawn designation did not apply to any Mark IV cars. If I am wrong about this, I would be delighted to be corrected. I love learning.

    • @markmikail4493
      @markmikail4493 3 роки тому

      The Silver Dawn designation did indeed apply to mark IV cars.
      In '96 the model range would go like this (price low to high)
      SIlver Dawn
      Silver Spirit
      SIlver Spur
      The Spur and Dawn were LWB. However the Dawn was the cheapest of the bunch, having no rear ashtrays, seat back pockets, lambswool rugs, lumbar support, seat memory, seat heaters, rear footwell lights, picnic tables, rear quarter badges, adjustable rear seats, foot rests, etc. These though could be optioned back on.
      The Spirit and Spur had all these options standard. In '97 the Spirit and Spurs received standard heated rear seats. Spurs also got standard turbocharged engines, of which neither the Spirit or Dawn could be ordered with.Traction control was an option in all models.
