  • Getting a new video game or console is always exciting, but what about when it's something you've owned before? I talk about how this happens and why we would have ever parted with our games and/or consoles to begin with.

Out of all my video game streamers, this guy plays to my nostalgia the most. "I wish I didn't trade this console in back in the day for $10". Lol my NES and all my games in order to buy a new N64 game for trade in value. The guy at Funcoland was like "are you sure you want to sell these?" And I said yeah why? And he just said he was only wondering. If only I wasn't a stupid kid lol

It has costed my literally thousands of dollars to regain my N64 collection of 80 games but part of it was because I became meticulous and picky as I went along, with wanting only the cleanest cartridges with best maintained labels and best controllers. I can finally say now though, I am so so glad I did because I will cherish it forever. It's seriously my personal favorite console. Sometimes I literally sit there and just handle each cartridge if I don't have time to play and my heart rate increases and I get tiny butterflies. I'm not even joking.

As much as people hate the N64 carts not having labels on top, I think it does make it easier to find them in decent condition!

Emulators have saved me thousands of dollars and gave me much better experiences than playing on a CRT with crappy resolution... but, I do emulate all my games on 100% ORIGINAL PC Hardware

    • @benjib2691
      @benjib2691 2 роки тому +4

@@Haywood-Jablomie Emulation for some people is just not an option, because it can't recreate part or all the experience of using original hardware. Furthermore, N64 emulation is by far not accurate compared to many other systems. I've notice many emulation glichs, sound errors and slower loadings that just don't happened on real N64 hardware. About CRTs, they (in my opinion) offer the best picture quality with 240p up to 480p content especialy when using quality RGB SCART or VGA cables (a modern screen paired with a quality upscaler like the OSSC come quite close), but they are quite inconvenient. It doesn't bother me too much because gaming and retrogaming is one of my passions.
In my opinion emulation is great if you don't care that much about accuracy or using original controllers or want to just play the game without spending an arm and a leg on various hardware. Personnaly I only use emulation when my original hardware stuff is not available when I want to play a specific game (I'm a student living 900 km away from my parents home where all my retrogaming stuff is), because I'm extremely sensitive to accuracy and overall experience (input-lag, graphics glitch, sound delay, sound reproduction, original controller ergonomics, even things like disc drive sounds for optical media based systems). But that's only my take on the subject, and as far as you are happy with your current setup, that's great! :D

@@Haywood-Jablomie Same. I understand that original hardware is best for accuracy and nostalgia, but emulation has lots of advantages for folks seeking a more modern experience. Higher resolution, higher / more stable framerates, no controller restrictions (Wanna play F-Zero X with a steering wheel? You can!), save states, games organized alphabetically and easily backup-able... Emulation kicks ass! I play all my N64 games in RetroArch, in the core Mupen64Plus-Next, with ParaLLEl RDP. Its level of accuracy is pretty amazing. Yesterday I was playing DK64 with the latest Tag Anywhere hack (It's freakin' essential) and was so impressed with how the game looks in HD. No glitches at all.

My sister got me a GameCube for Christmas a few years ago. My parents had sold ours in a garage sale when I was maybe 13, and by that time I was in college and falling back in love with older games I could emulate, but didn't have a chance to return to the games from my actual childhood. That was a fantastic gift.

Yeah, my father did the old "You didn't use your Mega Drive for a while, I gave it away with all your 35 hard earned games" trick to me back in the day.
Still missing some games from that collection and they are worth a fortune today :(

This one hits hard. I felt really good about finally getting my hands on the Yellow front/Blue back Pikachu edition Gameboy Color last year. I got the bundle brand new the first time when I was probably 7 or 8 years old, I remember getting it like it was yesterday. The Gameboy came packaged in a slightly bigger box that also included a Fully boxed copy of Pokemon Yellow, and with a Yellow/Purple Pikachu/Pokemon carting case. I took that Gameboy everywhere with me, going out to eat on the weekends with family, and I remember borrowing my friends gameboy camera for the ride to Florida vacation and took pictures of everything I seen on the road, even scored a picture of an angry truck driver yelling at me cause I wanted him to do the horn honk like kids would do back then. Well, some how on a move to a new town and home, I was missing one box, which just so happened to be my box of favorite childhood toys, including that Gameboy, all of it's original boxes from that bundle, a cib GBA, and other toys from my childhood that have coincidentally gotten rediculous in price today. For years I always kept an eye out for a used Pikachu edition GBC, but had no luck. Fast forward to my late 20's and I finally see one at my favorite retro game store. The price was kind of steep, but holding it in my hands again felt like I was re-united with a long lost friend and a lot of great memories came back to me.

I just got an SP again and its been a freaking blast playing Pokemon with my brother. He never really cared about the games growing up so I had to play alone, but now he’s getting into RPGs and we’ve been doing a ton of link battling, I finally get to do this after all these years!
I still give my parents crap about making me sell my N64, I’ve got one again but I still need a reunion with Chameleon Twist 2 (not a game id have expected to hike up so much in price).
I need to get a Genesis again so I can try to beat those games I never could as a kid. Aladdin, Toy Story, I’m coming for you! Great vid as always Retro Bird and glad you’re back

I never had a Genesis as a kid and I honestly was never that interested in the system, I would have been fine my whole life without it. Fast forward 30 years, I'm getting into retro games and found a free Genesis that needed cleaning and cables/controllers replaced.
Even the 6 button controller is still weird to me, but I can appreciate the system now more for what it really was. It came out after the NES and before the SNES, I owned both those systems. In those times you didnt ask for the last system that came out, you asked for the new one coming out. (N64, Playstation for me)
But it fit in well where it was looking back now. In the time, you just had to be buying the genesis when it was the new hotness to really appreciate it. To see my change in mentality now really shows how effective the video game wars were in dividing mentalities. I'm not even a staunch Nintendo guy either, I kind of fell off with the gamecube's release and even the N64 has lost shine to me over the years. Sega's legacy has aged incredibly well, like a young rockstar dying in their prime.

Yeah, it was always difficult getting any new console as a child. I had no money as a kid and had to scrape together odd jobs for neighbors and family to earn extra money (I had no allowance). The money I earned was usually not quite enough for a console (or even a game), so my parents would usually cover the rest of the price if I begged them enough.
I recall selling my entire SNES and Sega Genesis collection to barely afford the cost of an N64 console and like one game. I really did regret it hindsight. However, once I started working as an adult many years later, I was able to easily afford picking up replacement SNES and Genesis consoles (along with a host of former games and a bunch of other ones). I basically built a bigger collection than the one I had as a kid!

One game I had to reunite with is Parasol Stars for the TG16. Sold my entire collection of TurboGrafx and games to a game store - won't mention their name as I will not step one foot in them. Sold it all for less than $40. Was desperate to find a job and nobody wanted to hire someone wanting to work.
Fast forward 20 or so years and I received a copy through trade. I played it a few times just to get my battle patterns down again and have not touched it since. I did happen to emulate it afterwards just so I can leave my boxed TG16 in fair condition.

Where I was a little kid my school friend gave me a copy of Kirby‘s air ride for the GameCube. He gave me the game because he and I used to play it every day but he accidentally scratch the game really bad and could not get it to work. And he said “ The disc does not work but maybe you can fix it”. So I held onto that copy for 20 years and then I decided to take it to get resurfaced and WOO LA! The game works just like it did back in the day. I know the game can be around $85 now so I’m happy that after all these years it works!

You're right on with saying reunions can be awkward. Every piece of hardware I own I keep in immaculate shape. So 100% of the time when replacing any hardware/consoles, it is dirty/disgusting and never even close to the condition of my original. Puts a huge damper on the reunion and takes almost all the excitement out of it.

This happened to me once. I got my first console at my 5th birthday, it was the PlayStation 2. I remember my dad showing me a magazine page with a PlayStation 2 and an OG XBox beside it along with separate games for sale. I picked the PlayStation 2 without any reason. Years later when I got next gen consoles like the Nintendo DS, and Nintendo Wii, I didn't play PlayStation 2 anymore. I didn't see any new games for that older console, so I sticked with the new. But at some point I began to miss it, so I took it out of the attic. My mom helped me get it out, because it was littered with dead wasps. We had a wasps nest there earlier. I also bought a GameBoy Advance SP used, because that was the console that I never owned. I already had games for it because of the backwards compatibility on the DS, and the SP's backwards compatibility was one major factor of what got me into retro video games later on.

@@tonyp9313 I did not state that I picked up my PS2 because it was retro, neither did I state that I bought my GameBoy Advance because of it either. What I really consider as retro now is GameBoy and GameBoy color, which worked on my GameBoy Advance. That was my starting point in retro game collecting, as I didn't really see it as such yet at that point. I wanted to discover older games out of curiosity. Years later when I found out that retro game stores existed, that's when I bought consoles like the NES and N64. After that I wanted to check out non-Nintendo related retro consoles, and now I'm looking for rare and obscure consoles. I'm steadily getting more consoles to being able to have access to more libraries of games.

I legit have no idea where my childhood N64, Xbox, and PS2 all went. Knowing now how my dad pawns stuff plus the adult realization that my parents were really keeping our heads above water kinda gives me a theory about where they went.
Would also explain why the GameCube, SNES, and Wii never went missing. I currently have 2 of those sitting in my bedroom as we speak.

I sold my gameboy advance sp, wii, and ds lite to pay for some expenses for automotive school in 2008 (which i absolutely regret), and only in recent years I got re acquainted with them again when I purchased some used ones at a local shop. I missed them all, and it does honestly suck that these ones aren't my orginals, but I was still none the less very happy to have these systems again! Also, I throughout the years at school and then working right after, my games sat in storage, and once I was able to re discover them and experience their magical gameplay it felt so nostalgic and great! It felt like you said: I new found appreciation for them and a reinforcement of never again letting them go. Thanks for your upload, love your content!!

The one memory that comes to mind is back in 99, I was 17 and I "sold" my original playstation and games to a friend of a friend who I was told could be trustworthy.
(I wasn't into video games as much, too interested in metal, nights out and drinking)...
I met him a couple times he seemed OK, so when we agreed on the sale I dropped the gear off at his place with my our mutual friend, the guy claimed he didn't have the money yet (he said on the previous meet up he would have) but would pay me next week. I had no reason to doubt him, my mate was mates with him too and I knew his address so I figured ok. The alternative was take it all back and leave his place on a sour note...
Well I should have just taken it back because for weeks he wouldn't answer the door and then I found out a couple months later he did a runner (rent arrears).
I grilled my mate saying "wtf why didn't you warn me he was like this?" He insisted he didn't think he'd do that.
Never saw the thief again, but I did buy a new ps1 (the small white one) and some of my older games back a few years later. Still got some of those games to this day.
Moral of the story: if you don't know them, don't trust sh*t that comes out their mouth.

During the N64, PlayStation 1, Sega Saturn days I always preferred the Saturn because of its awesome arcade ports; Sega Rally Championship, Virtua Cop 1 & 2, Daytona USA, House of the Dead. So I got myself a Saturn after saving up for what seemed like forever (I was one of those kids who’s parents couldn’t afford to just give an allowance) and I loved my Saturn and I loved being the only one of my friends with one when everybody else was going PlayStation and N64. But eventually the library for PlayStation way out-exceeded that of the Saturn so I traded it in for one, which was honestly a good decision at the time, but ever since I’ve always longed for those awesome Sega Saturn games and they have only gotten more and more rare and expensive over the years. Add in the fact that you need a good CRT TV to play Gun-games like Virtua Cop and it’s virtually impossible these days to recreate that experience without a major invested in both money and space. The point is, I love and miss Sega Saturn and constantly consider getting one these days but adult life seems to constantly get in the way of that dream. At least I can still play a great version of House of the Dead 2 & 3 on Nintendo Wii with the pistol controllers, somebody needs to make Sega put Sega Rally Championship and Daytona USA on their next mini console. As always, great video Retro Bird, love the topic!

There is one system that I am still to reunite with, and that is my old dear Commodore Amiga A600. The floopy drive broke, I couldn't get a new drive, PC ones were incompatible, and who could have imagined the concept of Gotek drives back then? It got thrown out, and I regret that every single day.
I have an A500 Mini, and I enjoy playing that, it rund very well, but there's something missing, and this is the same reason I'm not into emulation in general when it's systems I have actual nostalgia for. If it's a system I never owned, then it's a good way to discover those games, but when it comes to going back and playing a game I enjoyed long ago, like for example the Sega Master System, it was a "process"... going to the shelf to choose a game, opening up the clamshell, taking the cartridge out, opening the SMS2 cover and inserting the cartridge, turning it on and grabbing the controller whilst the "SEGA" logo came up on the screen, the feel of that particular controller in your hand... it made a build up before even starting the game that feels list on emulation. A meal can be really tasty, but when you have a nice starter to open up to the main course, it makes the experience that much better. With the A600 it was things like swapping between the 4 disks of Syndicate and hearing the noise of the drive, the switch to turn the system on all the way down on the power brick, all those little things.

I was a Nintendo kid growing up, Nes and Snes, but I had a Sega Megadrive for about a year when I was younger as my cousin loaned it to me with Sonic 1 and I had a blast. I rented so many games for the console in that year including Rocket Knight Adventures. I now have a boxed Megadrive 2, a Rad2x cable for it and around 20 games, no filler. I have just ordered Rocket Knight Adventures and Golden Axe 2 and can't wait to get stuck in. The nostalgia is gonna hit hard with Rocket Knight Adventures it'll be like I'm a kid again renting a game of a Saturday night withthe hope it was going to be good, great times.

I had a Sega Dreamcast black Sports Edition that I knew I had stored away somewhere, but I didn't know where it was. I'd think about it once in a while and do a little searching, then I'd get distracted and forget about it for a while. Well about a month ago I actually found it, and I had forgotten I also had a bunch of games for it. So now I have it hooked up to a CRT TV via S Video and I couldn't be happier. And yes, it will never go into storage again.

When I was younger, my mom sold my original NES collection that I had built up to 30 games from going from yardsale to yardsale for years without even asking me. I even had the whole trackmeet and Duck Hunt box set complete with the original box, mat, guns, manuals, game, etc. and she sold it all for about $20. Had I known she wanted to do that, I would have given her the money myself, but I only found out about it after the people who bought it were driving away. I remember being absolutely furious with her at the time where she felt she had the right to just sell my stuff without even asking me.
Since then, I've only managed to add TMNT II: The Arcade back to my collection along with an NES-101 to play it on. It was great getting to play it again after almost a decade of no longer owning it.

I have had a couple of big reunions, but none from selling. I'll tell the 2 biggest.
The first was Turbografx 16. I played it for the first time as a kid at friends of my parents' house. My brother and I played so much Keith Courage and Davis Cup Tennis, and we played it every chance we could, but never owned one. Fast forward nearly a decade to 1999, and I work at FuncoLand. A coworker at another store is working with my best friend, and a Turbografx (which Funco didn't buy) got abandoned. The guy was going to take it home, when my buddy offered to buy it from him to give to me for Christmas, as he'd heard me rave about it over the years. The guy said, "Wait, it's for Mike? Dude, just take it!" I got to finally have my own Turbografx, given to me for free by two great friends, and I will play that thing forever.
The second was the first arcade cabinet I ever bought. When I was 7, a store called Grandpa Pidgeons had a Rastan cabinet up in front of the cash register, and I'd always go up and grab the controls and pretend to play along with the attract mode. Later that year, we were shopping, and that awesome Rastan cabinet had been replaced by this vertical run and gun, and for years, all I could remember was a huge stone centurion emblem on the floor during the attract sequence, but couldn't remember the name. Fast forward about 24 years, and I'm a salaried manager at a Wal-Mart, and I have a nice bonus check. I decide it's time to finally start fulfilling my childhood dream and get my own arcade cabinet. I go to an arcade that sells cabs, and as I walk around, my brain just about explodes as I stare at that centurion for the first time in nearly a quarter century. I stopped searching immediately and bought it, and Time Soldiers came rushing back into my hands.
I bought more cabs and pcbs as time went by, and you'd better believe I got a Rastan board as well.

Biggest regret for me was a two part. Walking into a random Walmart in 1998 and they had a ton of Atari Jaguar CD systems on clearance for $30 each. I bought one for myself, but then by 5 years later I sold my jag and jag CD for cheap (value was much lower in early 2000s. Fast forward I got lucky about 5 years ago and bought a used jag for $100 but still never got the jag CD back. Just sooooo expensive now. I did the same with my neo Geo pocket around the same time. But I was able to buy that back and even more games a few years ago for a really good deal. Sadly, I doubt I will ever get another Jaguar CD add-on. Mostly due to the cost but also due to the high failure rate

I was one of those rare kids who owned a TurboGrafx-16. It was my next console after the NES and just before I bought SNES. I remember picking it up at a pawn shop for dirt cheap with a bunch of games because of how badly it flopped in North America. But I loved that thing and held onto it for a couple years before trading it in at another pawn shop for an SNES. I think I had about twenty games with the system, and I traded it all for an SNES and about two games. 🤦 One of my biggest regrets. I considered buying a TG-16 years ago to reunite with the console, but even back then they were going for $400-500 with a single controller. Anyway, that’s my long-lost console with which I’d love to reunite. 🥺

I been fortunate to not have to reunite with a video game or console. However there were games I loved to play at family and friends house that I never got to own. Couple I particularly enjoyed were x-men, biohazard battle and hyperstone heist. Felt so great when I was finally able to find myself complete copies. Biohazard battle was a game I knew I wanted for years but didn't know the name of it. Second I seen the label for the game in a lot I knew exactly what it was. Weird and fun little shooter.

I've sold PaRappa the Rapper twice, and I'm on my third PS1 copy now. It's really short, and back when I was a kid, that was a dangerous thing for a game to be. PaRappa won't even take an hour to get through, once you get good at it, but it's still a game with resale value and could be traded in for something new and exciting. That was ignoring how much I loved it though. Back in the 90s, if you wanted to hear or see a game, you pretty much had to play the game. You couldn't just look up a UA-cam video. It was heartbreaking to only partially remember parts of the game. I think I saw a clip of the last level on a video game show on TV, and I thought about it constantly until I was able to get the game back again. I think PaRappa feels more special to me now because I realised how much I needed it. There's kind of a feeling of a hazily remembered old summer to the game, and some of the cutscenes feel oddly emotional to me, considering how silly and dumb they are. I'm never selling it again now, and even if I did, I've got about four different copies, so I'm sure I'll never be without it.

I remember owning the original PlayStation back in the day (not the small PSOne version, but the big one). It stopped working one day and it was a sad day for me. I wasn't tech savvy, so I couldn't fix, so unfortunately, I had to get rid of it.
Years later, a relative gave me their old PlayStation, still in working condition! It may not have been my old one, but it was still the original
PlayStation from its glory days and plays all the old games that I remember as a kid!

Also R.B., I was reunited with my beloved Sega Saturn many years after my original, old friend of mine had gotten into collecting right before COVID and some how had an extra Sega Saturn round button, with the good controller and a copy of fighting vipers, I was so happy I with in the soan if a week already ordered Virtua fighter 2, Daytona, virtual on!, (Mist underrated game ever) and last but not least a favorite of mine panzer dragoon 2 zwei,(also Greatest on-rails shooter that ever exist) bottom line Saturn is my all time favorite system, it's the game console that gave me the most "WoW" factor, and unbelievable arcade ports that had no right being so great, but so under appreciated,I used to have to fight off kids at recess trying to explain the Saturn was on equal footing as the PS1,that shit was legit fighting words

I don't regret the decision, because I had tons of fun with the Genesis, but after a couple years, I did miss the Game Boy. My senior year in high school, I bought one from a friend, along with a few games, all of which I had previously owned. Sadly, that didn't include my original CIB copy of Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters. I did eventually buy a cartridge copy of that, however.

Oh man.. regrets, I have a few. Some of them are shockingly recent, too. A few years ago, I gave away our old Sony Vega CRT that we bought juuuust as flat-panel TVs were starting to come down from the stratosphere. Took forever to find someone willing to haul it away, and then maybe 2 years later, I'm all ... hey, maybe I should go pick up those last few Nintendo games I always wanted, before they disappear from the used market.
    1,057 games later . . .
I still had a few older consoles (GC w/ GBP, SNES Jr., Wii, PS2) but I think the one I regret giving up the most was my old PS1. Didn't need it -- had a PS2. Stupid stupid stupid! haha That's tied with the SNES for my favorite console.
As far as the most glorious reunion, that has to be my old 486SX. It was my first computer that was all mine, and back in the day, I was so glad to be rid of it and on to a DX2/66 -- which I also wish I had never given up. I got a replacement from eBay that is in gorgeous condition, and I get so many warm fuzzy feelings when I use it... whew. Together at last.

When I turned 18 I moved out of my dads house and in with my first girlfriend where we rented our first apartment together. I didn’t have room to bring my drum set so I left it at my dads for the time being. It was in the basement set up, honestly not taking up any space he needed. -SNES, 20 or so. Including Mario, Metroid, Zelda, etc...
-N64, 8 games, Mario, Zelda, Golden Eye...
-My 90's PC with Abram's Tank, Commander Keen, Hack, Master of Orion...
-GI Joe collection, about 100 figs, a dozen vehicles.
-Ninja Turtles Collection, essentially the entire line (my brother's)
-Masters of the Universe. At least 30 dudes, with Castle Greyskull and Snake Mountain (my brother's).
-Original series Star Wars Figs my older cousin game me. I've yet to see a fig I didn't own.
-Legos, about half of the space line from the 80's, and a bunch of the Castle stuff.

Yep, two decades ago I was a broke-ass kid who had to sell his Sega Mega Drive and a mountain of games to get a brand-new PS2 and just a couple of games for it. One decade ago I regretted it so much. (But at least I still have that very same PS2 console as in I didn't make the same mistake twice!) I bought another Sega Mega Drive and whilst I've been enjoying it, it's not the same. The one I bought in the '90s had years and years and years of sentimntal/nostalgic value for me because I bought it from a friend with whome I'd played it for years already. No other Sega Mega Drive can really replace that particular unit or copies of the games we used. Indeed, all these new ones feel like imposters that I get along with and like well enough but something's off.
I also noticed something else. I never owned a PS4 before or even played one before when a year ago I bought a used PS4 from a stranger. I enjoyed playing but it never felt quite right. It never felt *mine*. Not even to the degree the stranger's used Sega console does. Has anyone else experienced this with a used console that they don't have a history with?

You never know the price value later on to regret it being sold off.
Ex. A man bought an old Ming Face for 8 lb at a garage sale in Uk. Later on, it was worth $45 million. It was an Imperial face from China 400 years ago.
Another example is a regular pencil drawing at Goodwill that was sold for $5 to a woman. The drawing was done by Picaso. It sold for $22 thousand.
So the next time anyone look at what their parent/grandparent have in their attic, do a little research on it. I
I recollect that my mom brought old foreign country coins from her time to US. I thought it was worthless until 35 years later that those old coins were antigue dating back to 1850. Now, it's a total mystery of where those old coins are.

I got rid of my Genesis and NES only about 8 or so years ago and only somewhat regret it. I'll miss some of the games I owned, but ultimately, I wasn't playing them, so it's good that someone else can get some fun with them. I also recently sold an NES that I repaired and while I've been playing NES games lately, it's been on my PSP, where it's much more suited to how I play games now.
That said, there are two consoles I'm sad I "got rid of" and that's my old PSP and my Nintendo DS, both with all their games. They were in some storage cases with games and while I was out of town (again, about 8 or so years ago), my apartment was broken into and along with plenty of other stuff, my PSP and DS were stolen. Was disappointed at the time, but more sad now, as there are some save files I really miss on those games.
At any rate, I have a "new" PSP (Go) and a 3DS, so I can play everything that was stolen from me, but again, I mostly miss the saves.

I sold my N64 and donated my NES to a children's hospital thinking I didn’t need them anymore. The Wii was backwards compatible so I got rid of my Gamecube. The Wii did not fulfill its virtual console promise. On the Sony side, I got a 1st gen PS3, so I didn’t need a PS2 or a PS1. I originally got Truxton for my Genesis free by sending in a coupon or voucher plus a copy of my receipt from purchasing the system. I also got my powerbase converter free because I owned a Master System. At some point I traded in Truxton probably for a ridiculously low amount along with other games, and later sold my converter. Just last Christmas I finally bought a mint copy of Truxton…for $120! Still, adjusting for inflation that’s about $50-60 in 1988 dollars, and since I never did pay for my original cart, I felt fine about the transaction. Delighted to have one of my favorite games back, the music alone opened up the nostalgia floodgates. Since I no longer have any Master System games, I can’t justify $150 to get a new converter. Alas, the loss of my original master system with all its games is yet one more of those stories which start with “I was soooo stupid…”😞
I do still have my original copy of Rocket Knight though, got it for $20 at a KB toys’ clearance dump bin!😆

For me the only real console reunion I had was for a PS2. I had one kinda midway through its life and I enjoyed it, even if I only had a few games (although a lot of time went to demo discs. I loved my copy of Soul Calibur 2 to death but the next best game I had was Enter the Matrix so.... eh). And then my father, who had the PS2 in his room, knocked it over, didn't put it back, and later stepped on it. I did manage to get it working again for a bit but then one day it just... disappeared. I didn't ask what happened as I didn't want my family to know I was working on it, and my father never replaced the PS2. I eventually gave away my demo discs and gave away my copy of SC2 to another friend who gave me a PS1 (my original had the spindle thing pop out while I was playing Parasite Eve), and it wouldn't be for, what... 7ish years until I got me a PS2 again.
I had other game consoles but over time they went away. A couple I traded in but generally stuff I wouldn't have missed, but most of them either vanished or were stolen. By the time I got my PS2 again I had no games or consoles whatsoever (again for reasons beyond my control that I won't get into in a UA-cam comment section). I eventually built up my library and got more consoles, although the vast majority of what I got was about getting what I missed rather than rebuying games I had in the past.
I eventually gave that PS2 away to a friend of mine who wanted to play some PS2 games for nostalgic reasons. Not sure if he still does anything with it but it's his now and I won't bug him about it.

Genesis with 50ish games (some big titles)
N64 with 50ish games (anything worth money now I had)
Sega Saturn with 10 or 15 games.(I don't remember having anything too crazy)
Playstation 50 or so games (rpgs)

Not experienced it with more than 1 console off the top of my head (sure I pulled my Wii out of storage) that being I haven't gotten my OG Xbox back yet (had to sell it for a Wii or PS3, even when I get told I forget which but know it was either of the two) even though I've added consoles I never heard of or pick up (Wii U, Vita, 3DS). I can't find an OG Xbox. I could have gotten a N64 for the same as a Switch at $300 or a GameCube Platinum for $99 in box but not memory cards or controller so it wasn't a complete package. But I have a Wii with GameCube support so past up on it.
I still own my 1000 model PSP, I don't my Blue Mario Kart Sticker DS OG but do a Pink OG one, still got my 360 with the hard drive failure working off a USB and a new Hard drive and it works still sure the disk tray and offline but I don't mind it. I don't have my OG PS3 though that had to overheat and we had to pry it open to get Mass Effect 3 out sigh. Somewhat had to kill the console that day and I'm not over it either. Goodbye PS2 support and later PS3 games killing early models. I have a Slim since 2012 that's still going it isn't the same. I like the Slim but you know how it is with BC even if I haven't got many PS1 games I sometimes use it I don't PS2 as got a PS2 had since a kid but not the same controllers. Still the ethernet adaptor installed to it and the network disk. No SOCOM 2 but got the box and headset no game. Shrugs. No Gran Turismo 4 prologue or GT 2002 Concept.
In terms of returning to games yeah I do from time to time because favourites, because I got a chance to pick them up like Rayman 3, Scaler I owned on Xbox now 2 copies on PS2 at different times, no manuals for either but still good to have a copy. I guess Gran Turismo 5 I got again, Resistance 1&2 after the 'it doesn't have 3D get rid of it phase' was not happy about that. Own Voodoo Vince again but need an OG Xbox to play it the 360 BC doesn't work for it as it requires special code so the Xbox One remaster made sense but not bought it as I don't buy digital.
I don't have many examples of physical for some games I still plan to seek out like it physical. In terms of returning via emu Battle Engine Aquila I have, Star Wars Clone Wars (the Pandemic studio one before Battlefront 1&2).I haven't picked up TOCA 1&2 for PS2 but happily own the third game physical. I have tried Kya Dark Lineage again, not Blinx 1 and Forza Motorsport 1 as Xbox emu is awkward to get working unlike others for some reason. I apparently had Halo1&2 but never saw them, parents were watchful and I don't blame them. I couldn't take the COD taking damage on the screen effect they do, no issue now but did bother me. I don't remember this one game though. I thought it was an X Files game but I have no idea what it is and it wasn't that but I always think it is related to it. Never found an answer to it like the other games I listed which I did find again from a let's play (Scaler), a demo disk (Battle Engine Aquila) or just lucky to pick up again like the other examples whether people had to bring them up to us, found easy in an EB/Gamestop before the PS5/Series removed old games on the shelf or retro game stores.

One day I’ll buy another SNES. I bought it “used” in 1993 for $50 with a bunch of games, loved it for several years. Then I sold it for peanuts with all my games to buy an N64. I don’t really miss the N64, although I still have a copy of SF Rush 2 for some reason…

I miss my Game Boy Color and Pokémon Games, I even had an original GameShark, and I sold it for some bs, I was a darn dumb and very broke college freshman, and boy how they have skyrocketed in prices, with the $50 bucks I got back then I can't even afford a broken game boy thanks to both price hiking and inflation.

I was so happy when I reunited but my Super Nintendo I had traded off my first Super Nintendo for a turbo grafx 16 and the person who I traded to and I gave them the super scope 6 and I was never able to get it back so when I got older as a grown man I end up buying a Super Nintendo and a super scope 6 with original first gen controllers that had the L & R printed on top

The TurboGrafx is better than the overrated snes.

Great question. I am slowly but surely reuniting with my nes and snes collection. It felt so good the first time in 30 years to play Super Mario Bros. 3 on an actual console again.

I hope you can beat Super Mario Bros 3. A lot of comments I read say it's too hard of a game.

My dog slightly chewed up my Halo 2 game case when I was a kid, and I sold it with all my other Xbox stuff in 2016. I have Halo 2 again for my collection now, but I'd much rather have that slightly chewed up case back just because of the memories and sentimental value.

To be fair, nearly everyone traded Saturn for Playstation.

I let a cousin borrow our snes with 70 games when me and my brother got a playstation. When we asked for it back months later, my cousin said he couldnt give us the system back because he traded it all in to funcoland. He didnt even give us the credit he traded it in for.... ive bought alot of it back over the past few years but i still get salty thinking about that. Who interprets can i borrow to mean "im going to sell your stuff then spend the money on myself"?????

Man, me and my wee bro had to trade our SNES and all the games to afford the PlayStation when it came out. Regretted that shit for ages. Then, when I was in college, I found a dude selling all his shit for a steal, and man yeah, it felt quality getting that console back.

Gundam on Original Sony Playstation, or Virtua On combo with it on any console for that matter.
