Thank you guys!! The kind words are really sweet and also make this comments section much less scary to read through 🥳
So not entirely a concentric circle of hell?
You’re awesome Emma!
You're a breath of fresh air for this channel. Keep up the good work. I think most people here are just passionate about films. Don't take anything personal.
You need to talk some sense into this guy... EEAAO is nowhere to be seen!
appreciate you Emma but honestly how did you let Patrick get away w making this video without watching everything everywhere all at once smh
Clearly all the googly eyes in Everything Everywhere All At Once triggered some sort of Charl anti bias which made Patrick leave it off his list almost entirely.
I want an explanation from him.
Everything doesn't exist in the Charl canon
He had Avatar in his top 10, so can't take him too seriously
@@RetroPowered I am totally dumbfounded. I had to scroll back and check if I'd missed it. What the what?
@@distantcomets it's pretty insulting honestly haha
This is better than the Oscars for the sole reason I am confident that I will not see Jimmy Kimmel.
His delivery is unnerving.
Uh… you might want to skip to the 30 minute mark then.
@@WyattoonsComics I read the replies, I went to the time code, and then... I laughed
Tell me you're Team Matt Damon without telling me you're Team Matt Damon.
@@jarjared3522 I thought we were all team Matt Damen?
The film critic Mark Kermode used to give Kermode Awards to his favourite films that hadn't been nominated for any Oscars.
He even gave one to Dario Argento........ Kermode rules!
Sounds a lot like commode.
In/Frame/Out does an "alternative oscars" series of videos too along the same lines www.youtube.com/@inframeout/videos
the only film critic i take seriously
@@52BLUE fr there’s no sense of pretentions in kermode, even Patrick has got pretentions but kermode is free of everything
*I like the addition of Emma.*
Janelle Monae from Glass Onion is the best intro IMO. Taking a hammer to pretentious, overhyped nonsense... perfect
I wonder what Patrick's thoughts are on Everything Everywhere All At Once. I'm surprised there was NO mention of it whatsoever
He gave it 4 stars but he probably just feels a bit weird on it considering it's a multiverse movie with googly eyes that came out right before his multiverse movie with googly eyes was released. Fair enough.
The racoon scene was mentioned for best animal scene
@@shaid1111 I’m doing the Leo finger pointing meme now. Holy crap how did I miss that??? 😱
I litrally just went back to chek the "movies i haven't seen" list to look for it.
@@WotFanar haha, I did the exact same after lead and supporting performances
Absolutely adoring Emma's addition to the show. If she can keep breaking down Patricks' ego that'd be great. Especially in rhyme
She's great, but after everything that went down with Charl, I don't know if we can trust her. I think she's playing the long game. There's a good chance a year from now she will have taken over the channel to exclusively talk about talking owls and Kilms.
I hope she's like a protoge, like I'm super invested in this next gen story arc that's my head canon.
Can't believe Everything Everywhere was snubbed for Best Scene of an Alien Whale Cutting a Guy's Arm Off!
Truly shameful on the part of the Vitos.
I think all my problems with the Oscars will be forgiven if Naatu Naatu wins Best Song, and EEAAO sweeps.
This plus my boy brendan fraiser winning
@@aliceplayer6843 i like brendan fraser and jamie lee curtis, but if either of them win an oscar for putting on a fatsuit, im gonna go sicko mode
Like, how wild would it be if the Oscars completely honor EEAAO while Patrick barely mentioned it? Has the world gone mad?
@@gregstephens I think that's why Patrick is not mentioning it on purpose.
@@TomsThoughtsonThings JLC didn't wear a fat suit. She has very proudly stated it was her real belly
so bold of Patrick to talk about the snubbing at the Oscars and then barely even mention Everything Everywhere All At Once after it just won a bunch of Oscars
shocked that Everything Everywhere wasn't even discussed. WHAT?! PATRICK! COME ON!
He’s right. Awful movie
@@LatveriaCinema incorrect. It is good, and I can prove it on an abacus.
*Ke Huy Quan had hands DOWN the best supporting performance of the year*
Also Everything Everywhere All at Once not even being in Patrick's top 20 is truly one of the boldest takes I've ever seen...
I'd also add the fanny pack fight to Best Action Sequence noms.
Also missing the introduction of Jobu Tupaki. Agree that Bheem wins though.
Barry Keoghan in Banshees was honestly better.

I would've loved to seen a category for animated films! The oscars always snub them and would've loved to hear your opinions! Just my own obvious bias as an animation student but still :D
Especially this year! Guillermo's Pinnochio is a pretty big oscar bait, and it's a good movie, but Puss in Boots 2 should get some recognition and I'm pretty certain it is going to get snubbed really hard!
Not just as a single category, but there's a good chunk of nominations for his categories that are just left on the floor by omitting animation. The Wolf from Puss in Boots and The Bad Guys were clear contenders for Best Character Intro.
Spazzatura deserved a nod for Best Animal.
I usually really like, or at least appreciate, Patrick's takes, but this is just perpetuating the bad practice that the Academy has of putting animation in the Kiddy corner, away from serious filmmaking.
@@GiantButterKnife there has been animators begging to be treated as real cinema and the bad guys getting snubbed for best animated film was gutting because I loved the art direction, I graduate next year and would love to see people change their views on the category at the very least. I think it was last year that Flee was animated, which is certainly not a kids film at all!! It also would be great to see more films outside of Disney/Pixar and even dreamworks nominated there’s so much out there that’s great
Inu Oh... Just Inu Oh
Yeah I was expecting an animated category as well! I don't mind that he skipped it, since the category has subtly been a way to keep animation out of the best picture pool, but I would have loved hearing him discuss more animated work, especially for some of the shot, scene, etc. categories.
My favorite scene of the year was "the run" in Nope. Everything about it was so goddamn magical. The score, the performances, the horror. Nope is one of my all time favorites because it made me genuinely excited in a way movies haven't done in a long time.
That scene has one of my all time favorite musical tracks. The way it seamlessly transitions from "discordant horror/thriller" to "epic western/adventure" is brilliant.
Absolutely agreed, that track was so blood-pumpingly awesome, like just a hold-your-breath type moment that I haven't seen in a long time.
Emma's persona in these videos makes me feel both seen and embarrassed about myself lol. But also, Locke is great and more people should see it *nod nod*
Wait, where did she/someone mention Locke?! But also yes I second this, it's brilliant
@@johnnypopstar lol sorry not in this video, it's a reference to an earlier video (or tweet, can't quite remember right now)
Guys I liked EEAAO! I liked a lot of movies! Not all of them could make the top 20! it's okay! chill out!
also the extended cut featuring my favorite TV shows and comics of 2022 is on Nebula nebula.tv/videos/patrickhwillems-the-best-movies-of-2022-and-more
I though you would not read the comments! It's okay, I found it weird, but you gave us plenty reasons to watch other movies, and that's super cool 😁
You told us yourself to complain in the comments, and so we shall.
Sorry Emma.
EEAAO was robbed.
Other than EEAAO I would've also expected some more The Batman love :)
Great show none the less!
I only care because my reaction to EEAAO was basically exactly the same as RRR: two great if flawed roller coaster movies
I wrote down Patrick's Top20 so you don't have to:
20: Mad God
19: Triangle of Sadness
18: EO
17: Armageddon Time
16: Barbarian
15: Three Thousand Years Of Longing
14: Ambulance
13: Kimi
12: After Yang
11: Bones And All
10: Nope
09: Return To Seoul
08: Avatar: The Way Of Water
07: Aftersun
06: Top Gun: Maverick
05: The Eternal Daughter
04: The Banshees of Inisherin
03: The Fabelmans
02: Tár
01: RRR
No everything everywhere all at once? Dang
This list is a joke. Patrick trying to pander to the Indians and gain more subscribers.
@@slowdown7276 as an Indian... I don't even like rrr
Thank you for writing the top 20 list
7:23 Patricks failure list: Saint Omer, Women Talking, All Quiet On the Western Front, Murina, Funny Pages, The Woman King, All Beauty and the Bloodshed, Both Sides of the Blade, Stars At Noon, Broker, We're All Going to the Worlds Fair, Flux Grommet 7:23 14:35 Patrick's Action movie failure list: Lost Bullet 2, Accident Man 2, The Roundup 14:35
gonna be honest, not missing much with The Woman King, idk why it would be considered in best-of lists but thats probably because there aren't that many films. Nothing against their intentions behind the film, but considering some of the decisions they took, and how bland and predictable the movie is, its disappointing to say the least. Also wastes Viola Davis thats for sure.
I know this episode is subjective but seriously Fabelmans, Avatar, and Top Gun got multiple nominations but EEAAO I think only got 1 nomination for best animal scene or whatever? Damn, and people complain about Oscar snubs-not sure how this was better lol
I can't stop laughing at the fact that Patrick hands off the award and is immediately handed back the same award while having to pretend it's a new one.
Inb4 a future video shows a cabinet in the background with 50 gold-painted funco pops inside it xD
I love how the Vitos are not only named after Vito Corleone from the Godfather, but are also meant to symbolically (ahem) VETO the entire awards season. Great stuff.
I'm 3 minutes in, and Emma as a character is such a great addition to this season hahaha
EEAAO not making the top 20 is shocking
Patrick. Ma boi. Did you just SNUB Everything Everywhere All at Once?!
The lack of Everything, Everywhere, All at once, in so many categories (best movies, lead and support roles, Jobu Tupaki intro and of course space whale cutting a guy's arm off), was kinda disturbing... I guess it did not hit correctly with Patrick because that movie has become my favorite of mine. The message from Waymond resonates with me so much, I love it.
But, at least I got a good list of movies to watch, thanks Patrick!
Also, Puss in boots 2 is awesome and should be somewhere 😛 seeing RRR won the animal trophy, the panic scene from PiB2 could have been up there!
Not saying it's the case here, but have noticed in the past some critics have a grudge against indie films that become hits the wider public. How dare it not be discovered by them?
I think its especially significant because it was made on a tiny budget, but delivered great action and visual effects. I'm glad he's appreciating the big budget action films of the year, but I think what Daniels did for their budget was phenomenal.
I completely forgot about EEAAO. Pretty shocking it didn’t make his top 20. Now I really want to hear what he thinks about it
the movie is completely average and if you think it wasn't an overhyped/marketed film you got put in the trick bag
I dont think he has anything against the movie, i think he just wants to highlight more films the oscars/award shows have neglected. EEAAO has gotten so much press and for good reason!
No EEAAO (besides Racacooie) feels weird. OK, top-20 is personal and subjective. But "kindness is my weapon" speech and the fight at the end are probably two of the most emotional and sincere scenes of the year.
Also Night of the Coconut deserved nomination for the best song (and the best cameos).
I'm glad I wasn't the only one. It made me google to see if he was publicly just not into it
I mean, he met with Dans and took a photo. So I don't think so. But, yeah, I hope he answer this or similar comment in his Patrick Replies video.
@@mhawang8204 Oh, yes, of course, I agree completely. But only one mention during all these 50 minutes - that was surprising for me.
I liked the movie but don’t remember “kindness is my weapon” at all
I'm just starting this and loving it ofc, but I just want to say that The Wolf in Puss In Boots: The Last Wish was snubbed for best character introduction.
Nah.
That came out 2023, wouldn't qualify
@@sethboettcher4239 December 2022 actually (also we're just having fun)
Seriously, though - I can't stop thinking about it.
honestly i love that they kept it straight from the trailer, cuz that trailer had me hooked for days with how cool it was as an introduction.
And EEAAO isn’t even on the top 20 list?? But Avatar 2 is number 8? I’m so confused.
I am surprised that Everything Everywhere all at once wasn’t mentioned in any of the awards. I enjoyed your top 20 though, I still would like to watch a few from that list
I am absolutely perplexed that there was not a single mention of Everything, everywhere, all at once...
except for Raccacoonie
Patrick's becoming a better director, and it's really awesome to see. Even in the small ways you see him light things or frame shots, it's cool to watch the incremental progress.
Wow, not a fan of Everything Everywhere All At Once I guess. Bit of a surprise lol
Honestly shocked
He is a fan. He gave it 4 on letterboxd
For about 30 seconds, before I realized I'm an idiot, I was trying to figure out how they got so many Vito Corleone Funko Pops.
With every new video I find myself more appreciative and impressed by the work you put into it. Going back and seeing how you improved year after year is just inspiring.
I'm so happy my boy Payakan got the recognition he deserved
jobu tupakis intro not being nominated is criminal actually
Hi Emma you've only been in a couple of episodes so far but you're already shining. Keep up the good work.
I am honestly shocked and confused that Everything Everywhere didn't even place in the top 20 or get any mention outside of an animal scene.
I think it’s completely intentional
@@RunningToNotBeSeen Not sure why that'd be the case-presumably because there is so much awards hype around it, but he mentioned every other movie with big awards nominations/wins like Tár, Banshees, Top Gun, etc so why not EEAAO?
Did he forget it existed?
It’s his list. It’s a divisive movie.
the opening shot of the patrick h funko pop made me rethink my life decisions a bit
RRR Swept Patrick Williams awards
Best Song : NAATU NAATU
Best intro : BHEEM INTRO
Best Animal scene : ANIMALS RELEASE AT GOVERNOR'S HOUSE
Best film No 1 : RRR
I'll throw in another comment wondering about Patrick's feelings about Everything Everywhere All At Once. Obviously, everyone doesn't have to click with every movie, but if he has something to say about it, I'd love to watch a video about that.
Something I've always wanted to see awards show do is wait like three years.
Some films we appreciate more over time and realize in hindsight that they were actually much better.
I disagree because awards shows allow us insight into a specific moment of time. They should represent the present, as that is how we reflect on the past.
@@kyleliegel Very true if you want film awards to be about gauging the zeitgeist, but personally I think awards for best films should be about... awarding the best films. And there are so many films that have gone unrecognized by awards because they need a few years to show their impact. But I repeat myself.
See, here’s the problem with awarding art. It’s art. What’s good and what’s bad is entirely within the eye of the beholder. Sure, there are some things which can be good or bad objectively, but it’s like awarding numerical grades or giving a ‘thumbs up’. There’s so much more to the discussion. Even the idea of delaying awards wouldn’t even be that good because at some point you have to call it, and there are many films which aren’t appreciated fully until decades after they were made.
@@MarkArandjus the best films as defined by you? What you’re implying is that you’d like the general public at large to champion films that otherwise may have been under seen or under spoken about - you want the general audience to play a roll. The point of The Academy Awards is for The Academy to decide, what that group of people that work in the film industry think.
I will say the earlier in the year a film comes out, the more of a version of what you want exists. Everything Everywhere All At Once and Top Gun Maverick being prime examples.
@@kyleliegel *"What you’re implying is..."*
Kyle, my dude, I know you like to analyze things, but there's no need to read that deeply into it. I literally just think that people often need to time to appreciate and understand certain films. Including members of academies or panels or what not, because working in the film industry does not make one magically immune from needing time to appreciate a piece of art. I've been involved in art departments for like 15 years, I can guarantee you that :D
Okay I’m going to complain a lil that you didn’t count the Interval Fight (from Bheem entering the party all the way through Ram’s entrance and to the end of the first act) as a whole action sequence. If you did that for Top Gun, you should’ve done it for RRR too. The Interval fight is insane!!!
Payakan deserves it. The only moment this year where I actually cheered, fist pumping, in a theatre (last time was I think in Fury Road). And then emberassingly enough, again, on repeat viewing. What a magnificent piece of action cinema.
I cheered in top gun maverick
Wow, not even a mention for EEAAO? 2022 is incomplete without it, as it dominated the discourse for months and still is a frontrunner in critics’ & popular lists worldwide!
It was in animal performances
He’s just jealous, Charl was boring af
I'm already excited for next year's Vito awards.
Love from jr NTR fans for giving best song, best charecter intro scene, best animal scene and best film awards😍❤️.
Thank you for giving me a good 1/2 dozen movies to check out that I'd never even heard of. Also another set of kudos to Emma.
Patrick is going to get torn apart for not even having EEAAO in his top 20. It's his list but not even in the top 20? Damn
Lol Emma is a welcomed addition. Fun formatting for the episode as well. Really nice.
24:00 Holy shit, he just did a _30 Rock_ cutaway. This is next-level shit.
Thank you for celebrating the "first day of sound filming" scene from Babylon. For a movie full of in-your-face sequences, that's the one I'm still thinking about.
The Emma comic relief on these recent episodes is really really working for me.
this episode’s opening might be the best y’all’ve done recently-it’s the exact correct level of wacky
Legend has it that only one Gold Vito was used for every category (Emma sneaks it back in out of shot)
Anyone got a link to Emma's Val Kilmer meme page?
My favorite new category is Best Character Introduction and I truly hope it results in filmmakers giving us amazing character introductions just so they can get on this awards show.
Best song: "Fearless Hero" performed by Antonio Banderas
Best Character Intro: el Lobo in Puss In Boots The Last Wish
Best Action Scenes: the troll fight and/or Lobo fight in Puss In Boots The Last Wish
Best animal scene: Pero comforting Puss in Puss In Boots The Last Wish
Best shot: [spoilers] in Puss in Boots The Last Wish
Best scene: Lobo's intro scene/Puss feeling fear for the first time
At least worth nominations, if not wins. It was better than it had any right to be 😼👢👢⚔️
Something I'm curious about: Everything Everywhere All At Once.
This seems to be the movie that everybody is massively behind as the best movie of the year. I thought it was good, but wasn't as big a fan as it seems everyone was making it out to be. I was surprised though that you didn't have it in your top 20.
Could you elaborate about why you weren't as big a fan of EEAAO as everyone was? I'm just curious, from a film specialist point of view, what was missing or didn't hit about the movie with you. I have my own thoughts but I'm curious about yours.
There's maybe a 1000 reaction videos on YT of people crying tears or joy and pain and love over this movie. It's a triumph of modern cinema and a masterpiece.
100 percent. I thought it was a masterpiece but knowing that Patrick wasn’t huge on it makes me want a video just on that.
Admittedly, the theme(s) didn’t resonate with me emotionally like it did so many others. That said, I can objectively see that it was an absolutely incredible movie. To each their own but: to only have the raccoon win on this list is confusing (especially considering Patrick seemingly rated EEAAO 4 stars, as others in the comments have said). To leave it out of this list is baffling.
Wait why wasn't Michelle Yeoh nominated for best lead?!
Because he liked at least seven lead performances more that Michelle Yeoh.
I like this new handheld style Patrick is putting into the narrative segments of these videos
I thought this was great and I can't wait to check out some of the movies you mentioned here.
But Im genuinely soooo curious about the notable lack of mentioning Everything Everywhere All At Once more than just once. Not mad or disappointed because that would be extremely misguided, but I am curious nonetheless.
Not only is Payakan an alien whale who cuts a guy's arm off, he's a DISABLED alien whale who cuts a guy's arm off. best representation we've had since Nic Cage in Moonstruck
Super fun list! Although I feel like I’m reading some quiet resentment towards the conversation around “mainstream maximalist film” Everything Everywhere. Not many mentions in the video
Very bold of you to not mention EEAAO once in the entire video
I need him to make an extensive review. I don’t like that movie and feel validated watching this lol
Damn, Everything Everywhere didn't even make the top 20
This brings new meaning to "It's an honor just to be nominated"... 🏆
I'm just happy to see Top Gun: Maverick get so much love, it's one of my favorite movies from last year and easily one of my new favorite "Kilms" 🙂
Everything Everywhere All At Once is clearly and easily #1 thank you.
I am kind of disappointed there wasn't a segment on more extensive animation awards because the Oscars is infamously stingy when it comes to giving out animation awards.
He doesn't watch anime and most of the best animation out there is anime so that would have been weird if he did.
Like what about Guillermo del Tory's pinnochio
Puss in Boots The Last Wish is actually stunning 👍🏻
Patrick is a Grinch simply for leaving out Everything Everywhere All At Once (I kid I kid)
Dont say you kid when its true and you mean it. It was a good movie.
I got more and more mad as the video went on haha
I think Puss In Boots: The Last Wish could've gotten a Best Introduction nod or two
Nah.
It came out in 2023.
The lighting on your head is truly, genuinely beautiful.
I will be watching your award show again next year, Patrick.
Hopefully the 2nd edition has a category for Best Screenplay.
Best screenplay awards are hard since it kinda requires you to read a lot of screenplays.
I’m so glad the space whale from the 2nd Avatar movie got an award. I enjoyed that scene so much!
Also Emma’s a treasure and a fun addition to the team.
The phone in the clipboard was a wonderful touch.
I’m actually happier about the (real) nominees this year than I have been in a while
I totally disagree. The number one best picture of 2022 was, without a doubt, " NIGHT OF THE COCONUT". How it was not recognized by yet another awards show is a travesty. No nomination from the Oscars, No nomination from the Golden Globes, No nomination from the Patrick (H) Willems best of 2022 awards. I hope it finally gets the recognition it deserves when the nominations come out for the Golden Coconuts later this month.
Can’t say I’m entirely shocked that The Northman, my favorite film of the year, has gotten no attention whatsoever, but it’s still irritating, considering it’s the best retelling of Hamlet since Olivier.
Your desk space is looking much better. Got that Jamusz Kaminski back lighting going on 💡
Hello Emma! You did great Patrick narrations in the video. Hopefully, this post make reading the video comments less dreadful.
Now you gotta do one of this every year
Just wanted to add the obvious EEAAO omission, although to each their own. The Batman was very good too, as was Puss in Boots, Bodies x3, Cha Cha Real Smooth, Fresh, Smile
Just watched the Nebula version. Fantastic, learned a lot (I'll read those comics!) and laughed all the way through. Don't murder yourself trying to crank out content but congrats on doing great work yet again.
I know art is subjective and EEAAO isn't a perfect movie, but to quote Deirdre Beaubeirdre "I mean to NOT even show up!" In this year's awards ceremony seems criminal
Really enjoying Emma in these episodes
I'm smelling something fishy for Everything Everywhere All At Once here on this award
subscribed for Pat, stayed for Emma
On the off chance that this ends up on Patrick Replies:
What are your thoughts/expectations/concerns on the D&d movie ("Honour Among Thieves") coming out soon?
Thank you in advance, Emma!
I feel like there was not enough love for Nope so i greatly appreciate it's inclusion
Everything Everywhere All At Once is the best movie to come out in a long time. It's got fabulous performances, amazing action, wonderful special effects, a story that is a masterclass of love, despair, emotion, understanding, acceptance, and tackles what is vs what could have been in most touching and life affirming way. And it's so FUNNY! REALLY PATRICK, REALLY? I'm so disappointed in this man right now. 😔
It was mediocre at best.
@@jayasimhaarya It's going to sweep the Oscars
It’s a divisive movie. If it works for you, it really works. If it doesn’t, it’s…annoying. For me at least.
Worst movie of 2022
The entire theater gasped and cried during that final shot in Aftersun. That was special.
Awesome show! Kinda sad that you left out the TV shows though, I would've loved to hear your thoughts on Better Call Saul season 6 (but maybe you'll give BCS its own video one day(?)🙏)
Just got to ask about your opinion on Everything Everywhere All at once. For me, it was the best film of the year and the favorite to win the Oscar. What was your opinion on the film and why it wasn't on your top 20? Just wondering. Also loved that Andor was your favorite show it is amazing (also kinda hurt Mando now)
Am I missing something about EEAAO? It was pretty good, sure, but not "demand Pat explain his words and deeds for not awarding it" good
As someone who's favorite movie of the year is Everything Everywhere All At Once, I'm surprised it was barely mentioned.
I don't mind other people not liking it, but in a video as comprehensive as this, throwing mentions at movies like Ambulance or Barbarian, leaving out EEAAO almost entirely seems odd.
And even if you hate it, surely you would acknowledge the turn of Ke Huy Quan?
Patrick, the lighting in this is *chefs kiss*
also the awards are great!
Yesterday I was wondering when we were gonna get this video! Awesome
I have to admit, I find his 'Best of 2021' video more interesting. There he also talked about music, comics and more. It made it a interesting and comprehensive review of the year, or at least in my opinion.
He talked about tv and comics on the nebula version
@@Distillari Oh, I missed that! Guess I'll have to look for a subscription to Nebula then.
