Leave it to Community to be this creative in their way to say goodbye to Troy/Donald. I will admit that while good, the rest of S5 is less fun and more somber in a lot of ways. But S6 I find one of the best seasons - it's very different and I think people have a hard time with that, but if you can get past it it's smarter and funnier than a lot of stuff, plus the finale is perfect to me.
They already mentioned he'd be gone for a year or longer earlier in the episode. No referees just like paintball, every just honors a code of when you lost you lost. (Which would ofcourse never happen in real life.) The chairwalker were Captain America the Winter Soldier stuntmen. This is also one of two episodes in season 5 where one of the Russo brothers came back to direct inbetween Captain America movies. I love Britta this episose, FLOOOOOOOOOR. They give her shit for it, but she also diagnosed and helped Jeff in season 3, he didn't listen but she was right she actually is helpfull in a lot of situations. But yeah, this is the Save Greendale Committee arc (season5&6). Lots of faculty work episodes (some in the evening after school), always 8 people in the group instead of 7 and a revolving door of people which are all great characters though. It maybe sounds worse on paper, but for the most part it's amazing.
Re: Abed coordination. In a previous episode it was demonstrated that Abed was fairly gifted at dancing - his lengthy legs also served him well when dancing in the Glee episode - and his athletics during the paintball episodes also confirm he can be very good with jumping, leaping, etc. But he also has a tendency to have his arms by his sides at all time (even when dancing), and talk using a finger to gesture - which I think suggests that while Abed is extremely coordinated with his legs, he seems to have far less coordination with his hands / arms. I mean - like how some people have more strength/dexterity in their right hand than their left. Odds are that Danny Pudi had not put that level of thought into it. But then he has demonstrated making very physical choices with how he portrays Abed so if any of the actors did put that thought into it, he did.
One of the best episodes that's very wholesome but bitter sweet. Your right, it's a lot like paintball but the steaks are much higher. I'll miss Troy but I'm happy with the way The show deals with cast changes.
I don't understand how 5 seasons in you still have no understanding of how the characters think and process things. You were surprised that Britta was worried about Abed? Abed who's been in a codependant relationship with Troy for 4 seasons? Abed who's dealing with the departure of Troy? How can this surprise you?

"Why am I crying? Did I accidentally listen to Come Sail Away by Styx again?"

This is the best send-off a character has ever received. I've always enjoyed Come Sail Away, but this episode made it so much more emotional.
