Also worth mentioning here, Annie's claim that she had been trying to address the problem of the Ass Crack Bandit two years earlier was a reference to the second season episode "Intro to Political Science". The entire concept of the Ass Crack Bandit actually originated as a throwaway joke during Annie's election speech, while she was running for class president against Jeff.
The constant rain was from se7en but the abrupt ending and the multitude of suspects at the end with no one properly convicted is from Zodiac
So it’s an homage to David Fincher movies.
Top 10 episode material. That Dean snapping scene one of the outright funniest scenes of the show
Div P It’s almost as good as his scene on the phone with Luis Guzman. “I loved you in......................... IMDB.”
Top 5.
Followed by "We have stables??", amazing
Everyone had incentives to be the bandit ie. Shirley was making money from her sandwich shop, Duncan was gone for three seasons and the bandit mysteriously comes back upon his return, Annie and Jeff to look non-suspicious while being together; that’s the true genius of this episode
This is my favourite episode, and the Ass Crack bandit song is so good.
@@11BscoutNG Just Annie's speech. I think the name comes from a joke amongst the cast for Joel though because his ass crack is always out.
@@JamieHollowayXVII "You.... have an abnormally high buttcrack!"
Ben Folds released the full version of the song
I unironically have the song in my phone music library
Oh bloody Hell, my shoe is untied by British standards... This episode is so great and ambitious. It holds a special place in my heart because it was the first episode I saw before I watched the series through. This is why I love Community. It is just so hilariously different.
Timbir Season 5 is so good. I just wish Donald was in it for the whole season. Lots of potential that Dan Harmon was back.
This is my first episode too!
The fact season five had episodes as great as this one, the meow meow beanz episode, basic story and basic sandwich, AFTER losing Glover from the cast shows how extraordinary the cast and writing was.
"it looks like a david fincher movie so far" got it in under 5 seconds, impressive
Bro please tell me who was ass cracker if you know
The concept of the episode was to leave the identity of the perpetrators ambiguous, similar to Jack the Ripper murders or the zodiac killer. No one knows til this day
It's abed. A lot of stuff has been discussed and written.
@@theengine it was annie
dude's name is gary
"*to this day"
Duncan
nu·mis·mat·ics
/ˌn(y)o͞oməzˈmadiks/
noun
the study or collection of coins, paper currency, and medals.
I was literally shouting this at the screen. 🤣
it's a Greek word. Nomisma means coin
This episode is such a perfect parody of "Zodiac".
Exactly
No it's a parody of "Seven"
@@ctcentralinfo
How is it a parady of Seven when in Seven he finds out who the killer is, but in Zodiac we don't, like in the episode?
I can't tell you how long I've waited for you guys to react to this ep, the dean snapping his fingers at Rhonda is one of my fav scenes and your reaction made it worth the wait.
The intro with the kids singing creep was a nod to children singing creep in the trailer for David Finchers The Social Network
Yaaay the silliest episode! Next batch are fantastic, you're in for a treat!
Not catching the ACB is why this episode is briliant.
They missed the joke of the ACB talking about Jeff and Annie's weird relationship "Like get a room already" 🤣🤣
I forgot how great season 5 was. This episode and the meow meow beenz were some of the best this show had.
I like that Chris "knows Latin", thus numismatics is clearly related to pneumatics. Despite the fact that both words are from Greek.
Well, that was the problem right there. I'm sure if the words had actually derived from Latin he would have been all over that shit.
A few things. The opening credits are directly lifted from Red Dragon, and the scene pulling the note from the bear is also from there. The scene with Annie and Duncan is straight from Zodiac. The night vision scene is from Silence of the Lambs. The first time you see Starburns, and also when Annie is researching the Dave Matthews fans, are straight from Se7en.
Also, the teacher with the weed plants was Ben Folds (of Ben Folds Five) who also sang the song at the end (the Ass Crack Bandit song, which is hilarious if you listen).
There are multiple clues towards several people and while the writers claim to have had an idea of who it was to begin with I feel like once they started to put it together they decided to not have a clear culprit so that the ending is much more in line with Zodiac (including that end text).
troy standing up is the funniest thing
My favorite gag in the episode is after Troy gets cracked, and Hickey is holding a bag with a quarter in it. Behind him is a security guard who looks at the baggie, then fetches and hurries away before he throws up. Dan Harmon was so into the background details.
This was one of the best episodes from the season. Numismatics is the study and collection of currency, coins, etc.
next episode is MY favorite episode. one of the funniest end scene hahaha
Star Burns actor was not happy when Dan Harmon was let go.
Jeff Borowiak wrong
1. What happened to Tormund?
2. I'm a lil sad that no one recognized Ben Folds as the weed-growing Professor. He is a musician who also wrote the ass-crack bandit song.
1. No idea.
2. I noticed! 👓
Troy slapping Starburns seemed like a reference to the grieving mom slapping Chief Brody in Jaws.
This may be my favourite episode. So many good scenes and got me to watch Zodiac.
14:24 the Dean knew that Starburns was alive and was keeping him as an ace in the hole this whole time?
Yes(idk)
One of the best episodes of the series!!
RIP Pierce. One of my favorite characters on the show despite the behind-the-scenes drama.
Community's lose tbh.
When Annie was running for student body president, she mentioned the Ass Crack Bandit. I believe it was season 2.
“Of course you’ll get the fart joke”
“Well I also know Latin” 😂
Chris is the real MVP for dragging Suraj out to watch this :D
Numesmatics means coin stuff. So the title is basically coins in butts. Also the episode digital exploration of interior design means finger in butt
This is one of my top 5 episode :D, the ending is so goood
Numismatics is the study of coins.
Full song by Ben Folds (The mild sativa guy):
It said quarter to five
But it was quarter to ass
You thought your plumbing was safe
But your jeans were half-mast
Another coin down the drain
Now that's some change that won't last
Twenty-five cents at a time
He's taking our souls
Government man can't help
We're all alone
Are you feeling the breeze?
Did you pull your belt tight?
You know that it's wrong
You know that it's right
Out of the shadows, down the coin goes
Why, oh, why d'you suppose?
(Only the Bandit knows)
Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh
A-S-S C-R-A-C-K Bandit
Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh
A-S-S C-R-A-C-K can't stand it
Coins on the sidewalk, coins in the palm of my hand
Coins in the ass crack or the eyes of a dead man
Drawn from the shadows, quartered by fate
He's the Ass Crack Bandit, enemy of the state
Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh
A-S-S C-R-A-C-K Bandit
Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh
A-S-S C-R-A-C-K can't stand it
Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh
A-S-S C-R-A-C-K
He'll give you no quarter, but he'll... give you *a* quarter
The government just takes your change away
Maybe we're the crooks, and he's the hero
Maybe he's the Messiah, who's to say...
Save yourself a coin for the ferryman
Crossing the River Styx of your ass
Wipe the smile from your face, kids, 'cause this ain't funny
And don't forget your jukebox money!
Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh
A-S-S C-R-A-C-K (Bandit)
Whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa, whoa-oh-oh-oh
A-S-S C-R-A-C-K (can't stand it)
Can't stand the fear,
Can't stand not knowing,
Can't stand forever,
Eventually, we all bend over
In the end, yeah, we all bend over
In the end, yeah, we all bend over
Your brothers, your sisters, they all bend over
Your friends and enemies, they all bend over
You and me, we all bend over
Even the president, we all bend over...
Fun fact: the song was performed by musician Ben Folds, who played the guy in the greenhouse. He even made a full version that you can find online.
I'm pretty sure there were multiple ACB. Britta was the one who cracked Troy and Duncan. Duncan initially cracked Garrett. Abed cracked the people at the bleachers (he disappears after a few moments during that time and was gone during the cracking)
People always talk about seasons 2 & 3 but honestly season 5 might be my favorite. So many bangers in this season!
Las Noticias Hispánicas de Greendale - Will this affect soccer????
It won't
The intro specifically was a Red Dragon parody. While Se7en has a similar intro, this parody clearly references the Red Dragon's murder book and even the titles are half red as well. And while overall it's an amalgamation of mostly Zodiac, the scene with Annie and Jeff looking up Dave fans to the music is a reference to the scene in Se7en where the detectives are in the library researching while the classical music is playing.
Community at its best is better than any other NBC comedy at its best. Change my mind
That end scene is just perfect for you guys
Love this episode!
The music Jeff is playing while Annie’s is ˋinverstigating´ also is from Seven. It plays when Morgan Freeman is reading in the library.
Ben Folds growing pot in an episode where they are hunting for Dave Matthews fans always has me on the floor!
The Ass Crack Bandit, first mentioned in Season 2 Episode 17 (Intro to Political Science) during Annie's election speech. What a pay off. This monster has been loose for years.
Hands down my favorite episode of community
Pure “Cold Case” vibe here...
The next two episodes are some of my favorites
I interpreted the ending montage to be that trope in detective shows like Criminal Minds or Bones, on one of the few episodes where they don't find the killer by the end. The montage usually consists of brief shots of each team member, alone in an office or at home, holding something of the killer's or the victim's, obviously deep in thought trying to solve the case.
For example: if an episode of Bones was part of a serial killer arc, so they didn't find the killer in the first episode of the arc. Suppose the first victim in the arc was a man who was very nerdy, he collected action figures, and was stabbed to death while clutching a homemade comic book.
At the end of the first episode in the arc, there would be a montage:
Dr. Brennan would be in the lab, looking at the bones as if there's something she hasn't throughly examined,
Angela would be in her computer room trying to restore the bloodstained comic book the victim died with,
Booth would be in his office at the FBI holding one of the victim's action figures, messing with it and thinking,
and Cam would be in her office holding the killer's knife (thoroughly checked for finger prints, swabbed for DNA, and cleaned) with pictures spread out on her desk of surveillance footage showing the victim's last recorded moments alive, getting into the killer's car for an unknown reason.
But in this case, the only evidence was the coins, so they were all holding coins and thinking about the case.
out of the shadows down the coin goes, why oh why do you suppose? (only the bandit knows) woah oh oh oh woah oh oh oh oh A-S-S-C-R-A-C-K BANDIT
This is one of the best episodes!!!
i was waiting for suraj's reaction to dean's "don't tell me what i can't do!" ;D
If Dean's snaps did the same thing Thanos' did, we'd be down to like 0.0001% instead of 50% :D
Love these reactions
Still watching this reaction everyday
such a great episode and song. go listen to the song in its entirety, its worth it ^^
Watching this under the influence of a mild sativa 👌
This is a great episode.
Is it weird that Duncan was gone for two years?
I'm pretty Sure This episode and concept was Based Heavily on the Zodiac Killer
Loving the All That shirt! Takes me back!
Film theory had a video on this; he goes through all mentions of it and uses Annie’s notes to come up with who he thinks it is
lol this is like seven and zodiac, or rather the GSK :P plus the inconsistent timelines suggest two persons, much like jack the ripper mini series with michael caine. love it.
I always feel sad that almost no one notices Ben Folds' cameo and songs in this episode
Trouble is also a Comic series about brothers Ben and Richard Parker who are, yes, the father and uncle of Spider-Man
Ik this video is old, but "numismatics" is the study or collection of coins. It stems from the Latin "numisma," meaning "coin," and it IS related to "numeral, as I think someone mentioned. Thanks for making me curious enough to finally look it up.
Also, while the announcement of Pierce's death seems to come out of nowhere, it's kinda realistic in that way. Death doesn't always come when it's expected, sometimes it just blindsides you and shatters whatever you're doing in life at the time. It this case, that happened to be chasing the Ass Crack Bandit.
chris was thinking of "pneumatics", that has to do with air. "numismatics" is related to coins.
claiming "I also know latin" made it funnier lol
Diggin tf outta Chris' All That shirt, hella retro 🤙
SEE!? This season is sooooo much better! Lmao 🤣❤️
I thought I felt some Hannibal in there too. "Using a social disorder as a procedural device." Plus this would have been made around the same time season 2 of Hannibal came out.
One of the best episodes lmfao
Its mostly Se7en and Zodiac stuff, but did no one notice the Scream nods?
This episode is like a mix of Se7en and Zodiac
I'm pretty sure they were doing a Zodiac Parody
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh 8:00 alarm
When are you guys making a Normies page for Mugscroll? There are dozens of us!
The classical music that plays while Annie is cross referencing dave fans with faculty. is the same peice of music thats plays while Morgan freeman is in that library researching religious texts in the movie se7en - Edit I didnt scroll far enough and some one already mentioned this lol
You guys should react to film theory where he reveals who the acb really is.
I always think about Hannibal (tv show) with this episode... YOU GUYS SHOULD WATCH THAT!!!!!!! HANNIBAL WAS SO PERFECT
All but one missed the best part of the episode, the Asscrack Bandit song.
I can't wait untill next week when we find out how Pierce died
I think my new favourite game is guessing which innocuous lines Pat will proclaim to be hilarious (and yet not laugh at).
I was really questioning in the end who is the bandit
If you have a very old gold coin, say an actual Spanish doubloon, its commodity value would just be whatever the value of the actual gold content in the coin. It's face value would be the value printed on the coin (to the extent whoever the issuer of the coin is both a monetary authority in this field). It's *numismatic* value is the portion of its value above and beyond that face value, contributing to its final value as a collector's item.
Love this!
Dan Harmon has said that the whole point is that it could have been anyone and probably was at different points. he didnt want a definitive answer. Fans who think annie only do so because at fan events Annie likes to make it all about her.
What was Abed referring to when he talked about painful writing?
Andrea said Pierce had two good years left.
Compare how smart and funny and how good of a parody this is compared to the crap in season 4 without Harmon. It’s crazy
A S S C R A C K bandit!
When I was starting to watch, I thought of the title: isn't numismatic the study of coins or the habit of collecting coins? Then I thought the right word may be nurismatic, and it turned out my first thought was the right one, lol.
IGN is the best episode ever actually
the best episode in season 5
Jeeze this episode is DARK...
*TRACE THE CALL RHONDA!!!*
What is this 'creepy business'?
According to Film Theory, Abed's the A.C.B. He actually brings up some really good points to back it up.
Am I taking crazy pills or did no one notice Ben folds from the Ben folds Five!!!!?????????
The more I bend down the more money I make....wheres the problem?
