Cookware with fixed handles are impractical due to poor packability or when balancing an off-center pan on a small profile stove. My solution has been to cut the handle off completely including the rivets. Then fashion a low-profile metal U bracket from scrap and attach it to the pan using the same rivet holes. This gives me a spot to use my MSR pot grabber. One handle for all cookware and it packs inside the pot. The bracket also allows me to grab hot pots off the fire while leaving the pot lid in place.

you can also save your self some time by getting a pair of fish mouth spreader's. they are thicker and stronger and would probably fit better for the handle. thanks for the neat idea I think I am going to give it a try.

Yep, the material these are made of is waay better than any overpriced "backpacking pan".

A bicycle spoke would work good too.

Thank you for figuring out that frying pan, that's a good idea. This is only the second video I've watched of yours the first how to make the Fancy Feast stove loved both of them and save them so I can refer back to it later.

A striker handle for a tourch would work good with a little work.

Just use a multi tool to pick up the pan, no handle needed.

Use a fishing "spreader" for a handle? A slide-on tube sleeve to keep it comptessed.

Theres other videos going around of the imusa 6" egg pan being used. This would probably fit around your pot a little better.

I sure don't have the shop you do, but I admire your work and the ability to get things done. Good job!

A homemade simmer ring can be made so you can bake with your fancy feast stove. Get out a can slightly taller than the wick. Cut the can to have it look like a wind screen. Put the can under the stove right by the wick, now you have a homemade simmer ring. You can remove the simmer ring without taking the pot or pan off your stove this way. :)

I tried a TFal One Egg Wonder. I like what you did about the handle.
    I have a 4.85 oz Vargo Titanium 750 Sierra w/lid.
I use it with a Zelph StarLyte w/lid and a titanium windscreen cone.
I mentioned it, since you asked.
Not as big, it's sloping sides will heat a lot of food. It makes enough hot water for backpacking meals using freezer bag cooking style and a hot drink.
I see your primary cookware has more volume, and so you might not like 750 ml.
Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning that I poach or fry an egg, make a pan scone or a chocolate lava cake with a silicone egg poacher insert but you could do that with your primary pan and a silicone egg poacher.
My primary reason for liking the Vargo Titanium 750 Sierra is the form factor: it is an all-in-one pan and it packs quite flat.

Good job. You may have only shed 0.8 ounces, but you lost a lot of bulk. Plus, you can take off the handle so it won't tip over on the little alcohol burner.

Biggest problem with any aluminum pan is they do not hold heat well. This can be a problem in colder weather. A steel pan, or aluminum with extra thick bottom, simply cook better. but they're heavier. Have to
decide on a priority and go with that. I tend to use the same pan I use in my home kitchen and just deal with the additional weight.

Not bad at all. A slightly larger pan and fish mouth spreader or heavier guage wire would be better. I've been thinking about this but I couldn't find the right size pan at my local small Walmart. I'll have to make a trip to Super Walmart. The reason why I haven't done this yet is because I still haven't found a U.S.G.I. non-stick mess kit or how to coat mine 😆. Seriously.
GOD Bless the U.S.A. AIRBORNE !

I use a Evernew Appalachian set to cook with and added a Evernew Ti Non-Stick Frying pan 16 at 4.23 ounces.

I think I'd adapt the old handle to fasten back on. Take handle off to pack the pot. Reinstall the handle to cook with.

The larger Tefal pans have a screw fastened handle that can be removed with a flathead screwdriver - I bought the 24cm pan and removed the handle for packing...

I recall something like that which was a bit heavier that was made for getting fish to open their mouth to get hooks out.

Mold your ground beef onto the end of a stick and cook it weiner roast style. Watch out for flare ups from dripping grease.

That stove is WAY over kill , for what You're doing with it ( and uses too much fuel ) . I made a
burner out of two rave hair spray
cans ( travel size ) . You can play around with the height to get desired fuel & the holes on top for
desired flame . To punch the holes , I used a awl ( one in center
& three evenly spaced around. ) It can burn for a long time ( great for
simmer & what You did ) . The only
thing is You'll need a pot stand .

Great mod but I'm wondering if drilling holes in the handle big enough to take weight out of the handle so it will sit on the alcohol stove but still be able to use it.

Thanks for the great video. I was looking for a pan like this too. Need my eggs every day.
I don't mean to bust your beans but was the scale reading ounces, 4.8 ounces or pounds .48 pounds ? That would actually make it 7.68 ounces. Just asking...

    • @intrepidsurvivalist2749
      @intrepidsurvivalist2749  7 років тому +1

That scale reads in pounds then ounces and it reads down to the 10th of an ounce..... So lets say I had 2 and a half pounds plus a half an ounce, on that scale it would look like 2: 8.5... Thanks for watching!
