I feel like you’re overlooking the sheer swag value of the regimental standard. Nothing beats the joy of crushing your opponent while carrying a giant, blinged-out, massive flag. So that he knows EXACTLY who is delivering the beat down. That’s worth the extra points in my book.
Exactly! I customize my guardsmen standards with Iron Crosses, because obviously. They look sick as fuck, and they're actually really good next to a Commissar, as the rules to it do effect them as well; increasing their aura of discipline.
a flag can be usefull in a command squad, add a mortar or other heavy weapon and hide it in the backfield next to the HWT, so they have a ld of 7 instead of the usual 6, might add voxcast so the officer can do some orders to farther awyay units if needed
remember you can create a solid anti deep strike bubble with a few bare min infantry squads equipped with a vox caster. That 18 inches away for the Officer means that the zone between command squad to infantry squad generates that invisible 9 inch buffer zone toward each other. Continue to do what you are doing above with a CC next to a HWS and screen them at the bubble range.
I personally play 3 company commanders with 3 command squads all with standard bearers . I’m not sure it’s super competitive but I think it’s really Immersive and has saved models from routing a lot of the time . I also run a commissar but only one as I’m not sure there would be several in a company. I use mixed command squads with medics in each for the same reason . Not sure Cadians would go into battle with out some form of triage medical specialists.
Guard does 2 things very well: threat saturation from the sheer weight of big guns in a list and wasting enemy shots to kill 4 point guardsmen. These squads do neither of those 2 things well. Their low squad size and morale means you'll lose models to morale and are squishy/relativly pricy. So, efficient for your enemy to shoot at. Also, for reasons beyond me, you pay a point more per model for command squad vets than normal vets. None of the utilities they bring to the table are worth their cost. These guys are just target saturation, but you pay quite a few points for anything decent like plasma spam. They're not expendable which is the biggest no-no for any guard infantry. For just 1 ppm more, you can take scions who can deepstrike to make sure they get their dammage in before they inevitbly are killed. It's just a better choice, and IMO more fun to play scions. Speaking of, when are we getting that scion regiment review?
False While I agree Special Weapons squads are completely useless and overpriced, command squards can be great for infantry heavy lists. Their low squad size means they'll never actually suffer from moral, and when you load them up with a standard and three plasma guns, they're effective. Place them next to your lord commissar or Yarrick as they push up the field with your mainline infantry, and chances are the enemy is gonna try to kill them quickly. If they dont, three overcharged plasma guns with a fuck of buffs will tear through shit! That standard is also a great help boosting the moral of regular grunts, allowing them to stay around longer. All in all, I really like command squads and think they're under utilized in guard lists, even through they preform really well.
Otto Von Bismarck Special weapon squads are good for one thing only, spamming cheap flamers to avoid their BS 4+. Anything else isn’t worth it and you should have taken a command squad instead. Even then command squads are so easy to kill you might as well as the points and get an Executioner for plasma spam The only other use I can see for command squads are cheap snipers that can benefit from orders. So better ratlings, though again, if you want snipers just get a vindicare.
You use a medic or quarter master for krieg guardsman because I'm paying 5 points a model or they are healing some engineers. They may not be "efficient" but that makes it more immersive, the futility of a galaxy at war and the non combatants trying desperately to keep a dying man alive knee deep in a mire.
Good distraction unit... for some reason a stock chimera running towards the enemy with 2 special weapon squads all loaded out with flamers seems scary (especially to T3 armies) and draws loads of fire, despite actually being very average. Charging an objective with the chimera means it can draw anti tank fire and anything that keep wounds off the leman Russ gunline is good in my book.
I think one missed opportunity to talk about here is using the Tallarn Strategem to outflank three of these units. Being able to outflank three SWS or Command Squads with plasma guns can lay out a decent amount of firepower in an area of the board you really need. A cheap detachment with three+a commander in any regiment army is a cheap way to get some accurate fire in an area you really need it.
I've had success running a heavy bolter chimera loaded up with a plasma special weapon squad and a melta command squad and a company commander with plasma pistol. I'm not a fan of the bs 3 point hike but I need the 4 meltas because that squad needs to delete its target more than it needs to be efficient. The plasma squad either shoots the marines inside whatever the meltas crack open or act as a bit of a flexible finisher/space clearing asset. The plasma pistol on the commander is incase the dice really weren't with me. He doesn't often overcharge but the option is there.
I nearly always run a special weapon sniper team. They’re utterly naff, hardly ever do anything useful and have spent battles not even wounding a target. BUT, I think they’re cool and they were fun to model so sadly rule of cool have made them an auto include. Weirdly they get targeted at a much higher priority than they should, so they’re a vaguely useful distraction.
Hi, I really enjoy your high quality videos. I would have a suggestion for interesting content, which isn't really covered by anyone. I was asking myself which allied combinations in the Imperium are possible and most effiicient. Hence, what are strong Imperium Forces soups? - which Armies can fill the weakness of another one? - cross Army buffs and strategies (such as fielding Bullgryns in combo with Centurions)
So please correct me if I’m wrong but there is a pretty sweet combo with Catachans and the regimental standard: Catachans get an extra leadership when within 6” of an officer. Then another leadership when within 6” of the regimental standard. That’s leadership 9 guardsmen! Now I looked at the FAQ for the Astra Militarum codex and there wasn’t anything mentioning the rules don’t stack. Sadly, the way the rule is worded I don’t think it interacts with a Lord Commissar. Again, please correct me if I’m wrong but I’d pay points for that and work on hiding my command squad, at least for Catachans.
Put command squad and a special weapons squad along with a company commander in a valkyrie, give the company commander the cadian relic, this x3 (minus the relic) and there you have it alpha strike ig. It works better with scions to back it up imho.
As per code rules say each offices can have a command squared for no slots do this mean you can run 2 company commanders and 2 platoon commander and 4 command squads??
I like 2 flamer special weapons squads in double heavy flamer chimera accompanied by heavy flamer hellhound. Put track guards on each and run them up a flank!
You forgot to mention the demolition charge for the Special Weapons Squads. It can be quite powerful with the grenadiers Stratagem and is still cheap at 39 pts for the whole unit. I run one or two such units from time to time and they usually perform well as a distraction carnifex, either dealing more damage than what they're worth, or attracting way too much attention and wasting a bunch of my opponent's firepower for such a cheap unit.

Rule of cool trumps all
Exactly! I customize my guardsmen standards with Iron Crosses, because obviously. They look sick as fuck, and they're actually really good next to a Commissar, as the rules to it do effect them as well; increasing their aura of discipline.
Equip catachan regiments with supercharged plasma-
Srgt. Harker: "Stay close to me and your guns won't explode!"

Exactly how I run them.
I am painting up my command squad today!
Whenever I have a Question there is always a relevant Auspex Tactics video!

Im very late i know, but a company only has a single comissar. There are organizational tabs available online😊
@ thanks !

You don’t use the medic for normal 4pt guardsman. You use them for your special characters like Straken or Nork.

Literally the only reason, keep those high point characters alive and when they’re not hurt try the odd guardsmen to make its points back.
i sometimes run 3 command squads w flamer and heavy flamer in a chimera for memes and it works surprizingly well
Good distraction unit... for some reason a stock chimera running towards the enemy with 2 special weapon squads all loaded out with flamers seems scary (especially to T3 armies) and draws loads of fire, despite actually being very average. Guardsman Squad, Command Squad, Heavy weapons Squad, and Karskrin are the Og Imperial Guard Infantry we all loved!

Yes, yes! I have so been looking for this. Time to take notes...
I nearly always run a special weapon sniper team. They’re utterly naff, hardly ever do anything useful and have spent battles not even wounding a target. BUT, I think they’re cool and they were fun to model so sadly rule of cool have made them an auto include.

You’d probably get more success with command squad snipers. They’re cheaper, you get 4 instead of 3 and BS3+
You can always use either as a cheap unit to man the lasgun array on a chimera.

informative as always
Good stuff!
How would compare krieg command squads?
I like Valhallan squads, no need to use points to support moral.
As per code rules say each offices can have a command squared for no slots do this mean you can run 2 company commanders and 2 platoon commander and 4 command squads??
Is it possible to have say a Special Weapons Squad with just one weapon? So entirely snipers?
Are demo charges not a thing anymore?
three command squads with flamers all in a chimera, aww yeah
Command squads are wasted with flamers. Give them plasma or melta.
I like 2 flamer special weapons squads in double heavy flamer chimera accompanied by heavy flamer hellhound. Put track guards on each and run them up a flank!

It's legends only now I believe sadly, that's why I didn't focus on it...
@@auspextactics Oh right, completely forgot about that. Well I guess they're only for friendly games now :(
So thinking about it right... You can pack 12 plasma guns into a chimera...
