There are so many cool details that can easily be unnoticed in this ep, making even rewatching it rewarding, it's incredible : - the bugs only targets the marines since they received orders to do so by ussop's master - the key left in the backdoor was hinted when the bookstore owner threw it at the salesgirl saying she always forgets it there - the song the soul king fans were singing is the one brook was singing back in saboady (new world) - the little brother was later drawn with kiss marks on him, hinting he was attacked by the new okamaland queens accompanying sanji 😂 - the puzzle pieces coming together at the end also came from franky and zoro's fanboys since the bubble they lost with their merch in it fell on the lil bro marine allowing her to steal her letter - the nami fangirl took off the shoes (that are exactly like nami's) and put on her glasses showing how she stopped imitating nami to reach for her own dream, thus the whole different fit she's wearing in the last scene - us only being shown the platform cut to reach ace breaking to represent the altercation between Luffy and Garp during Marineford This episode is a feast for OP fans truly !! So happy you guys reacted to it !!
Also, I love the slight touches that are easily missed, like how when the older brother marine is carrying the girl, and in the sky above them you can see the bird that carrying luffy, zoro, and Sanji, and you can see the moment where Sanji spots the girls, has his ultra nosebleed moment with the just barely outta focus blood spurt coming off the bird. A small detail I remembered from the OG anime but such a fun little reference.
The callbacks to things set up in the episode a really top drawer but easy to miss. Like how when the girl gets away from the blonde marine at the end and snatches her letter from the younger brother, the wanted posters and books that fall on him outta nowhere is from a burst bubble when the guys at the bar’s bubble of posters was let go of to float away because of the bugs.
I like that the main characters do not have definite names. I was really impressed that the action she took after escaping from the nasty Marines was not to go to the Sunny to meet Nami, but to destroy the Navy's plan to prevent Nami's adventure. She is an example of fan. Also this is the best of side story which reminded us of Coby's cries on the Summit War.
Yeah, it's just the Wholesaler kid, the Greengrocer brothers, the King of the Benevolent Waves, the Bookstore lady and whatnot. Intentionally no proper names. They're all fans of the Straw Hats like we are of this anime. We never find out what their names are and yet, we relate so much.
4:00 there's a gag with Franky that you have already seen but not so much where people just can't get a picture of him. Also, that little girl is Aliya (or however you spell it) she's the new secretary that replaces Khalifa. This is not a spoiler. It's just an extra material stuff that the anime didn't cover. There's so much more to the story that isn't in the anime
Remember the name boys - "MEGUMI ISHITANI". She also directed 3 canon episodes that you guys will be seeing in Wano arc, especially ep 1,015 which I still considered the Greatest episode of One piece ever! 1,015 and this Fan Letter are a TRUE MASTERPIECE! Can't wait for you guys to react on those episodes too. She has this power to amplify the story sequence impact that Oda is offering to us. It is so crazy! Huge fan of her!
The bit at the end where it shows a first person view of the crew when Luffy shouts Set Sail is a representation of all of us the fans being a part of it along for the journey
Just remembering that Toei created an exclusive studio just for One Piece since the begining of the Wano arc. The animation leveled up but still gets pretty inconsistent (it's weekly releases after all). Now, with the hiatus going on, with the sole purpose of enhancing the animation, things are gonna get even better. Not the mention, the anime is going to get back adapting extremely loved chapters of the manga, a flashback of a certain character ( 😭 )
What got me watching this is the fact that the little girl effectively saved the straw hats lives, but no one will ever know, we even only discovered it after this many years. I found it very bittersweet and in line with the message of the episode, like “the straw hats are alive thanks to their fans the same way One piece exists thanks to us, the fans”. Genius.

When i am in the middle of my worst possible situation, i rewatch some specific episode and get my strenght again when i see how straw hats handle their worst situation.... The director of this did 3 other episodes 957, 982, and 1015. 1015 is my personal choice for best episode in the series. Enjoy those when you get to them.

I'm a sucker for stories that humanize the soldiers of evil and corrupt governments; like Das Boot or books about 40k's Astra Militarum. I'd like to see a One Piece spin-off centered on the marines.

I love the fact that everyone has fans except Zoro, Sanji, Robin, and Usopp. Zoro does not have because of Mihawk(Superior Swordman. Sanji doesn't have fans because of his bounty and posters Robin doesn't have any fans because of her reputation And people thinks that Usopp doesn't even exists, only Sogeking exists
The day after this aired I must have watched a dozen reactions. I could not get enough. Kelvin was right, that was -CP9- government agents carrying off the fake Chopper and Robin running past the crowd waiting to get in to see Brook. The perspective of just the regular people, especially at Marineford, reminds us that while we're power scaling all of these characters, they are all monsters compared to the regular people. These same regular people, these fans, they're the reason the Straw Hats were able to keep going at the end. Our intrepid brave girl doesn't get to meet her hero but she does get to see her safely off. They're us! We'll never be able to meet them, but that doesn't keep them from being important to us. The VA cast singing at the end is the icing on the cake. ------------------- Megumi Ishitani directed this. She's directed a few episodes and she's just brilliant.
I hope hope HOPE marine ford get a revamp too or hell even the whole saga starting from sabaody since Romance Dawn will get a remake and fishman will get a revamp.
