Golly, Miss Koco, your technique of deactivating the handler end of the lead, taking all the fight n’ fun out of the dog’s bite, and choking up near terminal end/collar, is simply brilliant! Thank you for sharing! Liked and sub’d! Glad to have found your offerings! I must asked, your bandaged hands-dog related?
@@thekynologist155 awesome!!! Thanks for being here, glad the technique works for you! Yes, one of the dogs I pulled from a shelter got a hold of me, shredded and broke both of my hands. I had made a bad judgment call. My hands are healed, we got to work, and today he is my most well rounded and social dog. Working really hard, works!♥️♥️♥️
@@KocoGarcia Really appreciate your honesty, and even more your integrity and vocational commitment toward that dog! I don’t know if I have heard in recent memory (maybe ever?!) a more inspiring and encouraging success story, especially granting our new direction. A multitude of influencing factors are all coming to some practical conclusions and have led us to some fairly consequential decisions. We are shifting from a for-profit, professional dog training and behavior business to a not-for-profit program that selects and saves individuals from shelters and rescues for the purpose of then carefully pairing and placement of these ‘Saved to Serve’ dogs into homes for widowed, domestic violence victims, abandoned or otherwise single women/mamas to provide both persons (dog and their human) a new, righteous, healthy and mutually benefiting relationship. For sake of the vulnerable women, one benefit is security. Our dog selection criteria focus on our densely populated regional type we call Pix/Pixies (ie., Pit Bull mixes, most often X’d with GSDs, Australian Cattle Dogs [the ACD x Pit consistently produces the soundest dogs with the best balanced drives we’ve seen in our 30+ years of dog-craft and -training!), and other working breeds. The Pix provides often the best phylogeny for our mission, remarkably strong nerves, sense of duty, proper vocational drives, and physical gifts), but likewise their individual ontogenies often mirror the personal experiences of the women we, and ultimately our selected dogs, aim to serve. This only deepens the bond and personal commitments between the dog and new mama he loves and serves and who serves his needs in a worthy manner. Once selected, our dogs enjoy life together with us in a board n’ train-esque life and liturgy. Then, once dogs are proofed to life in service as Security Dog 1, 2, or 3 (from emotional and psychological security for the owner, also providing their home with the deference effect of an alert bark, and presence of a strong working dog) which is determined by the dog’s genetic and learnt potential As well as present limits and needs of clients in need, we turn our focus to the women and their leadership, and a development program that is designed to make each one a better handler than we are, so when certain gifts and limitations prevent perfection, the gals are nevertheless more than fit for their calling to the dog and his need for great leadership. All that bio to say: just our brief survey of your offerings here (looking forward to a break to check out your leash foundation program!), we can sense already, you have much to offer to encourage and inform our new direction and mission! So, thank you and blessings back, in advance! And may God’s hand rest on you, and heal your dog-healing hands!
Is there a video for a dog who is scared to be touched when I’m standing up. She will sit with me and allow me to touch all over. The minute we are just walking around-she’s ok with sniffing and touching me-the minute I try to touch her or even give her a treat she runs (she’s a rescue)
Thank you ! Rescued a dog in traffic weeks ago...shes a brat!! Prob a year old, never trained ...ive rescued years but never properly learned how to train dogs ( I'm way overdue ). Every other video I clicked on , took forever to get to the point, tells their life story, etc 😂 I appreciate your cutting out the extra and your straight - forwardness! I'm going to share this to my son , as he has the same issue with her. ❤
I stumbled upon this video in desperate need to correct my 5 month puppy’s behavior. I was very skeptical because we have had some major walking/biting issues. This video has changed my life! Literally after one walk My dog completely changed his behavior. Thank you!!!!!
This video completely saved us. We got a rescue dog who was biting & thrashing the lead so much it was extremely difficult taking him for walks. I was in tears & ready to return him. Then I watched this video. Literally, sorted the behaviour within a couple of sessions
I just saw the video of your hands after surgery. You are so spot on about dogs being innocent when we get hurt and I'm saying this from experience in 2013 a brindle was tricked into thinking its master was in danger and lunged at a 13 year old girl I stepped in between caught his mouth to control his bite but his paw proceeded to rip part of my face off. Even after 11 hours of surgery I not only still felt this way but it has never made me shy away or lose my love for them. Keep doing your amazing work. Patrick
A dog should NEVER lunge to bite anyone, ever, unless it's a police dog or it's practicing a sport competition. I'm so sorry you got hurt. The owner of that dog is at fault.
I just found you on TikTok and I am SO grateful!! My 1 year old German Shepherd is the sweetest boy but he is a wild child on the leash and has a lot of reactive behavior!! My husband and I are working through creating clear boundaries for him so that we can reintroduce him to our husky and get some peace in our home!
Thank you SOO much for this video Koco. So well structured from the introduction to the demonstration of the lesson and the narration over it. My 5 month old bernedoodle struggles with the same behaviour and I'm so glad I landed on this video. Excited to try the techniques recommended in this session and thanks again!!
Great advice thanks for the video😊 I just started working at a dog resort as a playtime counselor & I have dogs that bite the leash and drag me everywhere. This gives me hope❤
Thank you so much!!!! I'm so glad I randomly stumbled upon this video. I literally tried your technique this morning and it worked!! I was so stressed over how she was walking and attacking the leash but I'm so relieved it's such an easy move to do!
As a dog trainer working with my first very nippy LARGE Rottie - he does this especially on walks, thank you! this info has helped a lot. I am definitely going to try holding at the clasp now makes so much sense lol
It's like Martial Arts and kids--the general structure of learning, improves issues that seemed unconnected. The basic 5 dawg commands, often fix unrelated issues.
So happy I found your channel! Took in a dog similar to this who is used to doing whatever he wants. Very reactive and will take time but love working with dogs like this 💕
I foster dogs because I love them. The dog I’m fostering now bites the leash and jumps on people. She’s a pit mix with a lot of energy. I’m going to try your method because I’ve tried other methods and they haven’t worked. Thank you for taking the time to make videos that are to the point with easy methods to train a dog.
Yeah i’ve been having this issue with my mom’s dog who is a king cavlier charles spaniel & i wanna get him out of this behavior. Now i know exactly what to do!! Thank you so much! I was worried there would be no videos on this
Thank you so much. Going to try this with a 6 or 7 year street dog that I've adopted who goes totally hysterical if I put a leash!! You really should come to India!!!! :)
Thank you. Going to try this out in a few minutes. My dog is doing the exact same thing. It's heartbreaking that they won't listen cuz then they don't get to go on walks often.
I have this same problem with my dog he's 1 years old and he does this every once in awhile he has gotten a whole lot better though. Usually when he does this on our walks I take the leash and put it behind him and make him sit and when he doesn't try to go for the leash he gets a treat and a "good boy!" He has gotten a whole lot better then he usually just continues the walk and leaves the leash alone, he has his days where he does and doesn't but it's rare now
I tried this and when I get down to the clasp on the collar he just bites my hands or jacket. He's 13 weeks so hoping to get a handle on this now. I was using just a flat collar, but I will try the sprenger I have tomorrow. Any other suggestions. His teeth are razors.
Oh wow, can't wait to try this in the morning. My dog is one and still jumping up and biting lead, been to 2 dog trainers, one said use a Harni, one was giving tons of rewards for good stuff, still not helping.
I know it will take time and lots of practice. Other videos suggest giving treats, but with my dog that would send the wrong message of reinforcement. I started to soft muzzle him and he's shredded several of them and leashes. It's escalated to becoming a nightmare more recently, 10 seconds after we leave the front of the house. At first I could walk him around the block; with some pulling. I learned to drop it to loosen the tension. My one year old Pit male jumps up to work his way past the chain links to try to grab the leash handle. I am 62 and get so frustrated that he tilts me off balance and spins me in circles trying to play tug of war. He bites at my hand by mistake and growls to get his way. It's worse for me than what it must look like to observers. (that I don't have Titan under control) He is sweet in socializing with people and other dogs, but jumps and pounces with excitability. I let him run off leash with friendly companions; to expell extra energy. He starts back up once I get him releashed and it's time to leave. There aren't many dog parks close enough to me. And then there's the breed specific fear and concern. Although I've met so many neighbors who are passionate, understanding, and accepting of him. This is the best advice from my search, yet. Thank you from Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
How do I keep the dark so they don't scratch me when I'm putting on the leash or out the door if I wanted to sit so she don't scratch me when when I'm putting on the leash but it's hard
My dog is typically great on the leash, walks in front but never pulls and very responsive, but on occasion he starts this type of behavior he has since he was a puppy (he’s 4 now) and no matter what we’ve never really been able to fix it, it’s gotten better it happens less but it’s not gone. But instead of just bitting the leash he’ll escalate and bite your hands and arms often times hard enough to leave marks. I dont know how to fix this do you have any suggestions? I have tried most of what you show in this video I’ve taken positive reinforcement approaches as well as harsher punishment based methods and nothing works please help
Frida Olund are you using a Herm Sprenger prong? Watch the leash Reactivity video, and structured walk. If your dog is “typically” good on a leash that means he still sucks :) there is zero reason for your dog to be in front of you at any point. Between these 3 videos, there isn’t a better way to breakdown the training. You are allowing your dog to take the lead by walking slightly in front of you. The situations will continue to escalate, because your dog isn’t getting the proper feedback to tell him, that behavior is unacceptable. Watch all 3 videos again, use a Herm Sprenger prong, fit it correctly, pause the videos if you need to while you are working your dog. If you are in Phoenix AZ you can bring your dog over and I’ll fix it in 20 minutes... but you don’t need me, you can do this. Get serious about the details and use your voice as a tool. Less talking, and use the word “no” when the behavior is unacceptable, more importantly make sure your dog believes you when you say it.
Thank you so much! Just watched the video and went for our morning walk. My boy will be 5 months tomorrow and we just had a new perfect walk for first time in three months. Only had to grab buckle once. Giving him less leash and keeping him closer kept him from getting ahead of me which is when I think he can actually be tempted by leash. Thanks again Koch!
@@monicawesseler3041 no, I don’t. That’s more of you learning how to tell your dog “no” with your mom voice, and give a quick bump on that leash :) length of the leash is imperative IN THE BEGINNING(not forever)in the beginning while you’re teaching. Leashfoundation.com This course is $20 and will obnoxiously break down alllllll the details :)
I tried this and ot worked at the first time, but once I dropped the leash, my 4 month old puppy just started biting my hand and my pants. I get the leash to not have tension, the least bit of looser leash she grabs it, or my hand, pants shirt or coat, whatever she can get. Any suggestions?
My 8 week old border collie does NOT like his leash at all. He just rolls over onto his back, will not walk on it easily and most of the time, he wants to bite the metal clasp that’s attaches to his collar or the leash itself. Any tips??
Yep. All my free tips are here on UA-cam, if you need more help I offer paid for consulting- HandoverRover.com He’s 8 weeks old, you should be focusing on food luring.
@@KocoGarcia thank you !🙏 I’ll look into that! Is there a video on your UA-cam channel that covers that? Will be In touch for sure if needed! He’s super smart and has learned to “sit” like nobody’s business! Lol if I can get every command to be as simple as that one I’ll be in great shape! Another problem I’m gonna start addressing starting this afternoon is WHEN to leave my older dog alone. She likes to play with my 8 week old but when she’s done, she’s DONE and he doesn’t get that. Even if she’s a little aggressive with him.
I drop the leash and he still goes after it and chews it, and if you hold the collar he starts attacking your hand. I can't win. Edit: My dog hasn't done this in quite awhile. Grew out of it.
You're fantastic and your methods work fine! Thank you... What the dog shows , to me, is excess of energy. Meaning, wouldn't it be nice if he had strong work out session at least three times a week, for him to enjoy the outbursts of energy natural for his age and playful condition? Thank you for your attention.
Your videos have helped my husband and I with our 8 month old husky/GSD mix puppy; she’s wicked smart and LOVES to learn new things! We’re having a lot of difficulty trying to keep her from jumping up on people, though. We’ve raised highly energetic dogs before, but we’re lost on how to help her with this since nothing has worked. Do you have a video covering this already(maybe I missed it), or could you offer some advice? Thanks so much!
I plan on trying these skills very soon. I walk a dog every day and he is crazy on the leash. He plays with it and I am not in control as much as I want to be. I get paid to walk him and so I want to try to teach him how to walk correctly. He is a bigger dog, but I will start with what you showed in the video. One question is does it matter what type of collar or harness he is wearing? Thanks.
My dog is absolutely hot and cold on the leash. As a small puppy, he'd tug on it but nothing too bad. Then about 4 months old, all heck broke loose. He'd bite my legs and butt. Now, about 7 months old, he will yank and rip at the leash, jumping on me in the process. When the walk starts he's not so bad, but it's like he gets tired and throws a complete fit. I understand now, he's not too hot or in pain. He's having a bit ole temper tantrum, and I'll try this method tonight. He's stopping this crap
I have a problem with my dog. She is still a puppy (3.5 months), but I thought that I would start training her early. My issue with her is that she bites the leash at the very beginning of it, leaving no room for me to grab and of it. I don't think she does it to play, rather so that it doesn't pull on her neck. I try to be more gentle with the tugging, but it seems as it's now a habit of hers. What should I do?
What do you mean by "giving a bump on the leash"? You stated you should drop the leash with the anchor hand, yet In the video you don't drop the leash when you give "the bump" of the leash.
Fantastic channel. I recently fostered a rescue with significant fear based reactivity. Lots of great content here. I'm getting used to the herm sprenger and when used correctly it can be game changing tool.
Got our beautiful Belgian shepherd mix from the shelter over a year ago. We live out in the country, we go for walks leashless because there's nobody around so he gets to run free but always stays within my sight. Now I realize I need to train him on a leash and it's a nightmare, all my fault. So I need these videos to teach me how to be the leader. Of course running Free is nice for him, but it has not taught him anything, which I realize. So now here I am trying to learn some foundation....
I need help major my dog when I walk him he starts biting the leash and plays tug a war and when I get close to him he starts getting aggressive growling at me and wanting to bite me. Only time he shows aggression.
Koco Garcia my dog keeps scratching my arm and biting me instead of a leash. It hurts a lot and her nails are super sharp. She rolls over and throws a HUGE fit and won’t go anywhere no matter what I do. Please help it is very frustrating and it takes everything I have not to scream at her !!!
My pitbull Huskey only plays with her leash when were standing around and shes board and waits you to go or just to pay attention to her now my pittbull male will just lay beside you unless she just waits to play but they only play with own leashes
Is it a possibility I could reach out to you regarding some pointers on dog training? I’ve reached out to over a dozen people and I can’t seem to get any help in regards to training. The reason why the dog training is important to me (and I’ve taken certification classes on dog psychology)as I’ve began a program in my local area to help and rehabilitate bully breeds specifically Pitbulls to reduce the euthanization rate in my area. My community outreach is getting a lot of attention and I feel like I am not equipped fully to handle what’s coming my way ? Would there be an opportunity to speak with you directly?
That’s great you’re wanting to rehab bully breed. Hope you got some help if not just watch Beckman’s UA-cam videos and learn from that. It’s been very helpful for me w my foster dog.
I live in apt and this 12 yr old is forced to walk her mothers dog and last night my ring video has picked up the girl abusing this dog. It upset me so bad I’ve contacted the police again . I’ve had to call animal control and continues to send them all the videos that I’ve caught. She’s lifted the fog off the ground by the leash and last night was swinging the dog was on a carnival ride. It was so upsetting I couldn’t go to sleep and the police never came. They’re suppose to come today. They have several animals in their apt god only knows if those are being abused also. It’s torture for me to see these videos. I’ve told her two years ago she better not kick the dog in the gut ever again. I raised wolves with my two daughters and never have I ever yanked on leashes. I had to use a German choke collar only because wolves fur has a short very think under coat and then a long over coat. It’s really upsetting me to see this girl abuse this dog and it’s lunged at my grandson twice. I’m told the dog bit a boy but I understand the mother never called the police. This girl is abusing this dog because she gets angry at her mother. This girl has mental health issues I gather from a rape that happened and I heard the mother talking about it on the phone so loud I heard it from down stairs. I read on Google that I should call the prosecutor if animal control does nothing
When my dog doesn’t get her way and i make her walk, she does this. She also bites my hands as well as the leash. She’s a big rottweiler and im just a teenager so this is a huge problem. I’m going to try these methods for 1 week and come back with my results.
My 5 month old lab mix doesn’t pay much attention to the treats. They will hold his attention for about 5 seconds and then try to bite the leash off his harness. I hold the leash tight and leave no room for him to bite but he just goes crazy… jumping up trying to bite the leash that he can’t even see, laying on the ground kicking. Not sure what to do here
Koco, my almost 3 month old puppy throws the craziest tantrum when I tell him no on biting ankles or slippers. I know he is still a baby but I can tell by his attitude (5 minute barking and growling ) very loud and hsisterical. I don't know if he is barking out of fear since I did get emotional or aggression. Other then that he doesn't give any aggression, he is very sweet and always hyper He knows how to wait, he know how to sit, he know show to come if not distracted, not good with focus. My hands look like I have a cat ,although he respond to no bite on hand way way better ,but feet is nearly impossible to do anything. He gets very anxious. He also stubborns out on the leash, and bites it. Please help. I'm feeling helpless and really stressed. I don't want him to hate me or get aggressive with me in the future for getting angry with him.
Yep, there are a lot of mixed signals here, mostly because you are allowing your emotions to dictate the way you handle feedback. Far too much for me to text, but I can certainly walk you thru this and put a plan together for you over a zoom appointment, if you aren’t in AZ? Let me know, I’d love to help you!💕
I’m that girl that comments on your every video this is just a different account 😂 But I have a question, my dog has interacted with this dog that lives near our neighbours house. My dog would stop at that house and won’t leave even when I correct him with his prong collar. It takes him about 10 min to leave that house and go with me what should I do?
Baby duck this is your walk, not your dog’s. Dont allow him to decide where you stop. Walk right by. He has not earned the privilege of stopping to say hi if you can’t get him to leave for 10 minutes. If your prong is fit correctly and you are an average sized person, you aren’t giving the correct feedback to get your dogs attention. Watch the structured walk and leash reactivity videos again
I just rescued a bulldog and the rescue center sold me what they called a wainwright collar. It is supposed to make leash training easier but I am finding the opposite. Anyone els have any experience with these type collars?
That dog was great compared to my 5 month old golden I literally can not even get him out of the house on a leash without him jumping biting and going crazy
Ain’t it! My five month gsd out of the blue has started doing it and he will get my hands and my coat, but I will take into consideration of getting him by the collar and dropping the leash.
Haha this is a small dog! I have a mastiff 7 months who is built like a tank already, and goes crazy on the leash sometimes. I will do everything to try this method, but fingers crossed. She wrestles with us and always wins as she's so strong. Anyone got any advice for a huge powerful dog who bites the leash and throws herself about?? Thanks :o)
My 1 year old (100 lb) German Shepherd does the same thing!!! We work a lot in the house and do what she shows in the video before even going outside with the distractions!
I’m freaking out bear only bites at different times and we use a collar and we think if he use a harness it may stop, we don’t know if I can have it email I have a video of someone walking him and the little girl freaked out in it cause she didn’t know what to do
Queen Skadi ua-cam.com/play/PL7WQUkLqUG1nNRK-3WWLu1Z0o-aqoSVu1.html Watch these videos. Educate yourself first, then start working the protocols on your dog. Take your time, everything here works if you work it :) you can do it! Let me know how it goes
The problem that now exists when the leash is shortened, my dog starts to jump on me and smack with his hands and bites legs and hands, so now what for a sassy 5 month Doberman
Jen Kashak I would leave the leash on, but drop it. Just so he gets used to leash placement. Use food to lure him to follow you, don’t worry about teaching him to not bite the leash- focus on what you want him to do; follow you.
@@wendydee3007 yes! I don’t tend to actually spray her I spray the ground next to her with a sharp no but sometimes when it would get bad I would spray her. Water won’t do anything to them other then spook them a bit. My dog went from biting the leash all the time to in a week perfect without biting
@@theguardgirl So glad it worked! I tried water with a tiny bit of vinegar in, for an acrid smell, but it didn't have much affect. I may buy one of those air spray cans, you just spray it near them and the loud hissing is a deterent. Fingers crossed!
Not helpful in my case. Puppy is ankle-high, and if I grab the clip she just swivels her head to bite me. If I drop the rest of the leash it goes in her mouth and she throttles it.
I have the same problem as a lot of others do. I have a 5 month old Border Collie and he constantly bites the leash and jumps and spins. I know you mentioned that you leave slack on the leash even though your trying to correct the behaviour but the problem I have is he never leaves slack on the leash and always keeps it’s taunt. I wish I could stop this behaviour.
I have a 1 year old border collie and she does the same thing, it’s very frustrating and I can’t get the leash onto her without her pulling it, did this video help for yours?
I get this is old but please answer if you see this! I have a lab pup and she's a NIGHTMARE on a leash even at 5 north's old! Seriously I'm completely humiliated outside with her, she makes me look like some idiot that shouldn't have a dog but she's far from my first dog and certainly not the type to just get a pup and just expect it to be good...k TRAIN my dogs I even taught my 9lb chihuahua to perform autism response and medical alert tasks and took it a staffie who had been locked alone in a room for 2 yrs before being sent from home to home cuz no one could cope with his behavioural issues, and despite not technically having 5he space or time for him I successfully kept him for a year and trained him up enough to where I could send him off to a forever home (turned down nearly 100 people...everyone wanted him but took ages to find him the RIGHT home.. I wish other people would be that selective when rehoming an animal, rather rather just accept the first person that asks for it 🤬 ) So yeh, I'm not just an inexperienced doughnut lol but this pup I can't get to walk right, it's always either her pulling ahead or I try to hold her next to me but then she'll suddenly run straight in front causing me for stand on her paws! 0_o I don't want to hurt her at all obviously but I'm especially terrified of her getting seriously hurt one day if she continues to run under my feet 0_o Any advice ? I really need her to stay next to me but not get under my feet :/

My bull terrier literally goes bat shit crazy for at least 30 minutes before we can even leave the yard, weeks of this, I'm discouraged but keep doing it every day
So when I’m walking my dog with the prong collar she still pulls and still tries to walk fast and gets distracted, she pulls against the collar and puts tension on herself and acts like it doesn’t even phase her, I have it fitted correctly (if I make it any tighter it’s WAY too tight and I can’t even get a finger under there, I can fit 2 under it with the size it’s at now) and it’s high up on her neck right under her jaw bone... I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. Shes an 85lb black lab golden retriever mix and she has SO much energy
Josie Inman watch the structured walk part 2. Your walk is just going to be doing all turns in the beginning. Everytime she pulls, you will pop the leash and go the other way. Are you using a Herm Sprenger collar? That matters
Yes. Koco is exactly correct. Your issue is not the same as the leash biting and general rowdiness and impudence of the dog of this video I presume. To correct the problem as you describe 180 degree abrupt turns can be used if the dog persistently forges ahead. These turns must be done quickly and abruptly. I drop all of the leash except the loop handle in my right hand allowing the dog to self-correct when the leash reaches its limit. Then use some motivational body language to encourage the dog back into place at the correct position at your side while taking up the slack in the leash again with your left hand. If the dog is only cheating forward somewhat, but not forging ahead the remedy for that is to apply a leash pop that makes the dog hesitate then turn abruptly into the dog using either your left leg or the right leg to cut across the path and nose of the dog. You might bump the dog in the process of doing this. A big step forward before making the turn into the dog helps avoid that, but the reality is that the timing is not always perfect. This fact is in no way an excuse for or advocating for deliberately kneeing the dog in the side of the head even though you might do this accidentally on occasion. That’s okay, but kneeing the dog hard in the side of the head is not the objective and you should work to avoid that sort of unskilled method. If the dog is lagging behind, some motivational body language or a 90 degree right turn away from the dog or both will usually work well. Finally some trainers devote a great deal of time walking straight ahead. My experience is that this is okay at first, but not for long. Doing lots of turns at random times into and away from the dog works much better for me at first. I make inside and outside turns around mailboxes, bushes, signs, etc. Sometimes I go around twice or more then reverse direction and go around the other way. Always have a goal in mind with your leash work. Yes, your dog needs exercise, but you don’t have to walk two miles or more for dog to get exercise and you can make it more challenging and interesting for the dog by using turns around objects as well as jumps over objects and so forth.
Koco Garcia I am a dog rescue person that lives near Columbus, Ohio. I help with many dogs that are in jeopardy of being put down at shelters nearby due to “behavior” problems. I ensure that almost without exception that the rescue dogs in my care get professional obedience training and follow-up training with me according to their needs. Adopters are required to attend three sessions with a trainer as a condition for adoption. I use balanced training methods with these dogs although my dog obedience training certification was based on traditional tools and methods. Most of what I have learned has been by way of the dogs teaching me what they need and by maintaining an open mind when it comes to dog obedience training. I read a great deal, take advantage of online content, free and otherwise, and try to learn as much as I can from others and how they help the dogs - you for example. For those that want a comprehensive foundation for dog behavior and training, I recommend the free online workshop by Dr. Craig Mixon at: dogscience.org. Keep in mind the correction tools and methods he recommends are for puppies. These are not relevant to adult dogs in most categories in general - in particular, rescue dogs with behavior and obedience issues.
David, that’s wonderful! I hope someday you will share your methods and training techniques here on UA-cam?!!! There are so many people that need help, and sooooo many dogs that would benefit from your expertise♥️♥️♥️ let me know if you have any social media platforms- I’d love to share your stuff! Thank you for commenting, supporting and doing all that you do for our critters! xx
I had a dog like this a few days ago. She even grabbed my jacket and took a bite out of it. She bites my hands. It's a piece of work but i like a challenge. The owners do have a hard time.

Starting your Leash Foundation program this weekend!! Can’t wait!
Currently having the same issue with a 5 month old! Haha
Same problem here and same age (5 month) 🙄😅
Omg same I'm having this issue with my 6month old 70lb saint bernard😩
This video completely saved us. We got a rescue dog who was biting & thrashing the lead so much it was extremely difficult taking him for walks. I was in tears & ready to return him. Then I watched this video. Literally, sorted the behaviour within a couple of sessions
I came to this video crying and hopeless that I could ever correct my dog’s behavior, but now I feel confident in being a leader. Thank you so much 💗
My dog just took his leash and started playing tug. I took him straight back home and found this video. Thanks for advice I'll try this now.
Hi
Thank you SOO much for this video Koco. So well structured from the introduction to the demonstration of the lesson and the narration over it. My 5 month old bernedoodle struggles with the same behaviour and I'm so glad I landed on this video. Excited to try the techniques recommended in this session and thanks again!!
Hey! Thank you for the feedback!! So happy to know this is info you can use!
At last a puppy who is misbehaving. Normally they will show a perfectly trained dog behaving perfectly
Very reactive and will take time but love working with dogs like this 💕
My puppy does this and wow I can’t wait to try the drop leash aspect. I used to hold onto it and it would be like tug for her but this is great
Brie Ferrara awesome! Let me know how it goes!
Very helpful video! Loved how you explained it and broke it down for us. ❤️
I wished I found your channel sooner but am so happy I found it now. Great info!! Hope you have a beautiful day!
THIS IS SO SO GOOD
Omg this has to be the most easy tutorial
I know she’s a dog, but nothing pisses me off more when my pup does this. Going to try this out!
Thanks, I'm going to be implementing your suggestions.
I have this same problem with my dog he's 1 years old and he does this every once in awhile he has gotten a whole lot better though. Usually when he does this on our walks I take the leash and put it behind him and make him sit and when he doesn't try to go for the leash he gets a treat and a "good boy!" He has gotten a whole lot better then he usually just continues the walk and leaves the leash alone, he has his days where he does and doesn't but it's rare now
Gabby H that’s awesome! Great job at following thru!!!👏🏼🐶
I'm going to try this
I tried this and when I get down to the clasp on the collar he just bites my hands or jacket.
But what if he keeps pulling that short leash? You let the leash be tight? Do you give him more leash? What do you recommend
Amazing have a four month gr who grabs the lead have tried loose lead walking this doesnt work but short leads seem too Hopefully gets better
Thank you so much for this!!
What do u do if when I drop the leash my 7mo old staffy bull mastiff still bites and pulls his leash? Like tug a war by himself..
How do I keep the dark so they don't scratch me when I'm putting on the leash or out the door if I wanted to sit so she don't scratch me when when I'm putting on the leash but it's hard
Facts
Less talking, and use the word “no” when the behavior is unacceptable, more importantly make sure your dog believes you when you say it.
great job! 👍
Do you have any videos instructing how to get him to stop going after my shoes while walking?!
@@monicawesseler3041 no, I don’t. That’s more of you learning how to tell your dog “no” with your mom voice, and give a quick bump on that leash :) length of the leash is imperative IN THE BEGINNING(not forever)in the beginning while you’re teaching.
Leashfoundation.com
This course is $20 and will obnoxiously break down alllllll the details :)
Any tips??
Yep. All my free tips are here on UA-cam, if you need more help I offer paid for consulting- HandoverRover.com
He’s 8 weeks old, you should be focusing on food luring.
I'm going to try this!
Thank you for this video
Very well done
I drop the leash and he still goes after it and chews it, and if you hold the collar he starts attacking your hand. I can't win.
Edit: My dog hasn't done this in quite awhile. Grew out of it.
mee tooo
Same!
How is he now
same, i’m thinking of switching to the chain leash with a prong at this point, because it doesn’t help
He may be getting to much off- leash freedom. Could be lack of structure. It will take some work.
Thank you I'll try this out today! I rlly hope this works for my dog lol
How did you go on?
What do I do if my dog just continues to chew and never lets go?
First, love what you do! Second, you and the useless farm lady are incredible and need to talk up! If anyone else has said that, I agree with you!
Finally a good one!!!
Alex Wilson sorry I missed this? Yes I do, “stop jumping on strangers” I believe is the title
Did you manage to stop the jumping?
What about if he sees the lead as a toy because previous owner had a toy made of same material and looked like a little lead bundled up
Fantastic channel.
We made the same mistake with our female rottweiler. Now she is 9 months old and has decided she does not need a leash. We are correcting this now.
Hi! What if my dog won’t stop biting at my hand when I grab the connector?
I need help major my dog when I walk him he starts biting the leash and plays tug a war and when I get close to him he starts getting aggressive growling at me and wanting to bite me. Only time he shows aggression.
Same with my dog
I tried this and my dog started biting ME instead, scratching my arm that’s holding the leash, and hurting the crap out of me. What do I do?!
Same
@@lianderey2293 Lol look at her thumb, her too
same, any tips since you last commented?
Is there a way to message you? I have a dog that is at risk of being rehomed and it breaks my heart to even consider it
Bri N my rescue is on a freeze, the best I can do is help you with training
He doesnt drop itt!!! My dogs so stubborn. He just picks up the other ends and starts biting
Tàv you have to correct the behavior when that happens. “No” pop the leash
sameee huhu
My 5 month old lab mix doesn’t pay much attention to the treats. They will hold his attention for about 5 seconds and then try to bite the leash off his harness. I hold the leash tight and leave no room for him to bite but he just goes crazy… jumping up trying to bite the leash that he can’t even see, laying on the ground kicking. Not sure what to do here
thank you for making a video on how to do this without bribing the dog with 3000 calories of treats
Koco Garcia Thank you
What if then they switch to your arm? Then I try that and then it's wish to my arm

Koco Garcia Ok thank u so much,❤️
The problem that now exists when the leash is shortened, my dog starts to jump on me and smack with his hands and bites legs and hands, so now what for a sassy 5 month Doberman
As always…👍🏾💯
When I take my puppy (9weeks) outside to go potty, he is often biting the leash. Should I do the same thing or is he too young for this?
Jen Kashak I would leave the leash on, but drop it. Just so he gets used to leash placement. Use food to lure him to follow you, don’t worry about teaching him to not bite the leash- focus on what you want him to do; follow you.
If it’s not working try a spray bottle! When my dog bites the leash I spray right infront of her to break her focus. Works like a charm
@@theguardgirl just water?
I have a 1 year old border collie and she does the same thing, it’s very frustrating and I can’t get the leash onto her without her pulling it, did this video help for yours?
any success?
Is it too early to start this on an 8 week old?
no start
Whats up with your hands?
Is this a slip leash?
Jamie Toohill no, regular 6ft leash
Your leash foundation method is not working for big dog such as St. Bernard
I wish other people would be that selective when rehoming an animal, rather rather just accept the first person that asks for it 🤬 )
So yeh, I'm not just an inexperienced doughnut lol but this pup I can't get to walk right, it's always either her pulling ahead or I try to hold her next to me but then she'll suddenly run straight in front causing me for stand on her paws! 0_o
I don't want to hurt her at all obviously but I'm especially terrified of her getting seriously hurt one day if she continues to run under my feet 0_o
Any advice ?
I really need her to stay next to me but not get under my feet :/

My bull terrier literally goes bat shit crazy for at least 30 minutes before we can even leave the yard, weeks of this, I'm discouraged but keep doing it every day
I have a small dog. That's a lot of bending for me cause she's already short.
Shanai St Bernard yes, you will have a sore back, I’m sure
He pulled your thumb off?
David Miller what a fantastic and thorough explanation!!! Where can people find your content?!?! The dog worlds needs you... WE need you!!!
Thank you for commenting, supporting and doing all that you do for our critters! xx
My dog does the same thing but when there is no leash he goes for my hands
I had a dog like this a few days ago. She even grabbed my jacket and took a bite out of it. She bites my hands. It's a piece of work but i like a challenge. The owners do have a hard time.
