Im also retexturing some holds that i bought from a gym. They are also super polished. I used polyurethane exterior paint and also applied sand. I used a second layer to lock the sand in after reducing any aggressive abrasions. I made the second layer a bit thin to let the texture bleed through. I'll add another comment if the holds happen to work without peeling.
I have tested the holds today and even did some dynos of the same retextured foothold to see if it would peel. They are holding up pretty well. I found that some were still a little abrasive (mainly some crimps that have a line in the middle of it where sand seemed to collect a bit more, nothing sandpaper can't fix)
You can get to tintable bed liner basically clear that you add tint to and use a spray gun. Raptor do this. They have a gun that you can adjust the spray patten to leave a coarser or smoother finish I believe along with adding more thinners/ using less thinners. Off roaders use it on bumper side skirts of their trucks because the grime sticks less to the texture
@ climbing holds are made of polyurethane. It is a monolithic material and has no coating. Sandblasting in soft materials dulls the surface depending on the size of the sand/cordunt grain.

Yes. Please do. Thank you for the input. I thought of some acrylic paint with hardener, but wasn't sure if it would bond with plastic.
Do you still work at g1 because I haven’t seen you in so long
@@Mouse_Man7368 I do not. But I climb there sometimes still with friends.
@@RealWorldClimbing nice

I’ve seen some spray jobs using it it that feel quite close to the standard hold texture with out any added sand/add texture
Nice. Thanks for the pointers
onle sand blasting…
I haven't tried that but initially I feel like that would take texture off of plastic holds. Have you tried it with sandblasting?
