I think that episode "Divided We Stand" is the only episode Harry ever corpsed in - just after old Albert finds his old false teeth - lost after a landmine explosion in 1942 - and puts them in, saying "my gums have shrunk" Harry laughs as he says "that is the most revolting thing....." That episode had an especially warm and appreciative studio audience.

Harry H Corbett was an incredible actor as was Wilfrid Brambell. The Steptoe films were both excellent, sometimes a film from a tv series does not always work but they were both fantastic. In "Steptoe and Son Ride Again" the part were Harold leaves the hospital with a concussion and falls into a crypt in the cemetery, only to emerge with falling bandages like a mummy much to the horror of the vicar who faints. Watch many videos of yours this week and if these people were suddenly brought back to life how the graveyard would be packed of fans waiting to meet and have a photo taken. It makes you realise that it the spirit not the body it was in that is so special. Like yourself I am at start of my 50s and you certainly become more aware of how precious life is . We don't all take any notice when younger. Keep doing the videos it's so important to celebrate the lives of those who have past. Maybe we don't see to much of this content on main stream media because people don't like to be reminded of death so it is put to one side but we all need to be reminded that we need to take care of ourselves and others. I was in the post office the other day and this 86 year old man that could hardly walk with his Zimmer frame said: "When will this all end"(he told me his age) Corbett was only 57 when he died, the same age as I am now. I'm just thinking out loud I guess, what is this life all about? I served too and went through some very rough situations and kept saying to myself"If I get out of this situation I'm going to enjoy life to the fullest" and I did, but somehow you can never get that same rush as when your life is constantly at risk it just makes you live for the moment. Now I get stressed if the Chemist is closed and I cant get my heart tablets LOL.

As someone very close to him who visits the grave every year, it is looked after and not neglected. I hope those who may or may not feel that way about his grave understand that his family may wish to keep it like it is now.

I met the pair when filming the church scenes forvthe wedding when harold got married to zita. They were polite I chatted with my friend for ages both were dressed dapper we got their autographs. I was only 11 tears old I lost mine years later when I moved from home. But I will always remember how dapper they were.and how posh steptoe spoke. Great duo. Never to be seen again.x

St Michael the archangel - I think that’s who priests pray to when they exercise evil spirits. I will never forget the episode with Leonard Rossiter who had just escaped from Wormwood Scrubs with an elderly fellow inmate and they decided to break into Steptoe’s yard - They could not have chosen a worse place to seek sanctuary. An absolutely brilliant episode from the 1960’s.

When I was young I used to play in a jazz orchestra in Sunderland. There was a disaster in Doxford Shipyard in 1966. A benefit was held in Sunderland Empire for he victims, I think 11 men killed, and Harry H Corbett was on the Show which he gave his time to freely and it was a success. I met him and he was a hell of a nice guy. Other acts included Susan Maughan the singer. My claim o fame? Making the noise of someone breaking wind on my trumpet when Harry H bent down in a comedy sketch. That is absolutely true, I was 16 at the time. The band I used to play with was The Ray Chester Big Band I played split lead trumpet with some fabulous musicians.

Sometimes actors can take on a part that becomes so iconic that it is difficult if not impossible to better. It cuts across all genres. For a great many people, Harry's legacy will be, in part, the joy and entertainment he provided throughout his career. It is a marvelous thing for anybody to be remembered with simple fondness and appreciation and there's no doubt Harry managed that. While many will be aware of his great acting talent, people will always love his relationship with that "derty ole man." RIP Harry. 😎😎😎

Absolutely love Steptoe and Son, always makes me laugh! My great grandad, in his younger days, actually looked abit like Wilfrid Brambell....he actually had a horse and cart for his job 😂 That's where the similarities end though as he wasn't a rag and bone man lol.
Love the Carry On films too and Carry On Screaming is another fave of mine, even though I use to have a recurring nightmare when I was a kid of Harry as the thing he turns into 🤣
Love the shirt and you've just said 2 of my fave horror films too. Love the older horrors.

Always delivered with respect and dignity Paul, the story tell is full of facts, clearly well researched. Yes Steptoe and Son was one of the best British comedies around and drew a large following. Sad to see such an unkept grave yard with so much lichen on the head stones. Harry's catch phrase "You dirty old man" will stay in the mind of many.
