  • On Tuesday, August 27, 2019, the ICAA hosted Ben Pentreath, renowned architectural and interior designer, to discuss his lifelong passion for the English Country House.
From great houses like Chatsworth, to the humbler manor homes and buildings that weave together the landscape of the English Countryside, Pentreath explores the importance of restoring these homes, as well as using them as inspiration for new projects.
This was the fourth lecture in the ICAA’s 2019 New York Summer Series in partnership with Sotheby’s, designed to coincide with Treasures from Chatsworth, an exhibition of one of the largest and most significant private art collections in Britain.
    Additional lectures from the series:
    • Georgiana: Duchess of Devonshire, with Dr. Amanda Foreman
    • Chatsworth: The Complete Work of Art, with Clive Aslet
    • ‘Perfection is One Thing’: Chatsworth and the Art of Capability Brown, with John Phibbs
The 2019 New York Summer Series was made possible thanks to the following sponsors:
Foster Reeve Architectural & Ornamental Plaster
    The Luxury Division of Pella

Having found the ICAA in March this year it's beyond shocking how little exposure this YT channel has. Another beautiful talk, sure helps that I live in the UK so I can't wait to visit most of these places!

Wonderful! I had hoped to meet you, when we visited Pentreath & Hall a year...or two ago. Next time, I hope...greetings from Bangkok.

Wonderful, I’m so happy at least some architects are designing in traditional styles. It will probably never happen here in McMansion land, the US.

It's funny how Americans are so passionate about European and especially British architecture, history and culture when there are thousands of great properties either falling down or being horrendously and blandly 'modernised' in their own country. I saw a video the other day of a beautiful Golden Age home in NY that had been gutted, the basement of course dug down and internal walls gone, all to be turned into some flashy version of one of the boutique hotels these people live in each time they travel. Tasteless, outrageous and bland. These 'modernisations' will never stand the test of time as they are based on fashion and not on proportion scale and respect for the building.
