that’s an understatement given that infamous airplane was designed - largely invented, fashioned to tolerances estimated on materials and fuels that were unavailable & built in lowlight under ground by starving slaves with 26 nations actively trying to blow them up but hey, gobsmacking seeing one fly

It was 20 years ahead of its time. And let’s not forget it was built towards the end of the war when resources were low and while factories and railways and even residential areas were bombed 24/7. Still, they got it not just In the air but operational and into combat.

As i know the pilots set the engines to full power at the start and then back to half power and better never touched the throttle again.

@@geotropa1043 Sorry, the english to german translator that I used can be wonky at times and my response was a little too brief. The Me-262 shown in the video is one of five that were built in the USA from scratch. They used an original Me-262 from the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Florida as an example. One of the conditions of borrowing that jet was to restore it. The reproduced 262s were powered with derated business jet engines. Using original Jumo engines wasn't practical for obvious reasons. However, there is a flyable restored Me-262 in the Flying Heritage Museum in the state of Washington that uses the original Jumo engines. The caveat is that the Jumo engines were rebuilt with turbine blades manufactured using a refractory alloy used in modern jet engines. Those engines should be able to operate much longer than the original 50 hours between major overhauls.

Higher top speed, lower maneuverability (wider turning radius), so the Me 262 was not suited for dogfights against the Allied fighters, but this was not its task. So it used its speed advantage to break through the belt of Allied fighters in order to attack the bombers. It is, to a lower degree, similar to a modern F-16, which would not care about an old biplane but just ignore it.

      @@johnjuarez8005 Sehr geehter,
You are guaranteed that any Me-262 is not flying with the original engines. You just would not get permission to fly it (dangerous as hell).
If you take a walk around the Technik Museum in Berlin you will come across an exhibition about the origins of flight and Otto Lilienthal. Along with lots of other people he jumped (special mounds) with contraptions and claimed to have flown (died doing so). Was this really the beginning of flight? The Wright brothers would rightly complain. They developed the means of CONTROLLING flight. They did this by developing the required aerofoils, pitch and turn technologies (developed engines too). The Jummo and BMW axial engines were a power grab after the failure to make the easier (Heinkel) centrifugal engine work. The British also had similar axial jet engines at the same time, but rightly judged the technology to be not ripe (by at least a decade). Nazi Germany was desperate, with no centrifugal engine, and pilot lives were not high on the list of priorities. The axial engine only came into its own AFTER the required means to control the engines (understand the fluid mechanics well enough and to have methods to adjust the flow characteristics) and the corresponding engine controls (electronic controls). So here we have a claim (blah blah), using modern engines, to have invented the axial jet engine from which all modern jet engines were developed (not helicopters). Unfortunately this is not the case. Modern jet engines have very little in common with generation 0 engines. Nor did Otto Lilienthal invent flight (no controls). Yes Otto Lilienthal's contraption did have wings, but so did many others. If you can relate to the millions of dead caused by the Nazi regime and it's armament supporters (yes early 1930s), you might find the inaccurate "Wunder" stories inappropriate at best. Behold a replica warbird with modern jet engines.
