Higher top speed, lower maneuverability (wider turning radius), so the Me 262 was not suited for dogfights against the Allied fighters, but this was not its task. So it used its speed advantage to break through the belt of Allied fighters in order to attack the bombers. @@johnjuarez8005 Sehr geehter, You are guaranteed that any Me-262 is not flying with the original engines. You just would not get permission to fly it (dangerous as hell). If you take a walk around the Technik Museum in Berlin you will come across an exhibition about the origins of flight and Otto Lilienthal. Along with lots of other people he jumped (special mounds) with contraptions and claimed to have flown (died doing so). Was this really the beginning of flight? The Wright brothers would rightly complain. They developed the means of CONTROLLING flight. They did this by developing the required aerofoils, pitch and turn technologies (developed engines too). The Jummo and BMW axial engines were a power grab after the failure to make the easier (Heinkel) centrifugal engine work. The British also had similar axial jet engines at the same time, but rightly judged the technology to be not ripe (by at least a decade). Nazi Germany was desperate, with no centrifugal engine, and pilot lives were not high on the list of priorities. The axial engine only came into its own AFTER the required means to control the engines (understand the fluid mechanics well enough and to have methods to adjust the flow characteristics) and the corresponding engine controls (electronic controls). So here we have a claim (blah blah), using modern engines, to have invented the axial jet engine from which all modern jet engines were developed (not helicopters). Unfortunately this is not the case. Modern jet engines have very little in common with generation 0 engines. Nor did Otto Lilienthal invent flight (no controls). Yes Otto Lilienthal's contraption did have wings, but so did many others.
