This story is from the movie "Love Story" whose protagonists were Ali McGraw and Ryan O'Neal. Later, O'Neal would have his own true love story with actress Farrah Fawcett ("Charlie's Angels"), who died in 2009 of cancer. The story of the film was repeated to O'Neal in his real life.
