From what I can remember there has not been a major accident on the route from Crete to the mainland since the loss of the ferry boat F/B HERAKLION that sank late in the years of 1966. I had the displeasure of taking this vessel in the summer of 1966 both going to and returning from Crete. Dirty, old, rust everywhere and creaking with every wave it hit. They decided to run the route during bad weather with 2-3 meter waves. It was reported that the ramp that was supposed to seal the garage from the water failed allowing the vessel to take on water around the small outcropping known as Falconera. No survivors from what I can remember.
