⁴ᴷ Footage of the Miami Metrorail System

- Опубліковано 7 вер 2024
- Miami has a very 1980s-style rapid transit system called "Metrorail". It has two lines, Green and Orange, which parallel each other for almost all of their length, branching in two separate directions on the north end.
Metrorail uses cars built by the Budd company, the same company that built the R32 cars on the NYC Subway. These cars used by Miami Metrorail are from the mid 1980s and are among the last subway cars Budd ever built. They have never been refurbished, and have the same interior, mechanical, and electrical design they had when delivered in the 1980s.
Taken on January 2nd, 2016.

This is how I remember the Metrorail. Thanks for recording this history.
I might ride this when I go to Miami this December.
I love this system and their railcars. Probably better then their Baltimore counterparts! The only thing is, they're about to be replaced by Hitachi cars.
+Nicholette Casey (Nikki) That's why I made a point of filming as many of these as possible.
+Dj Hammers Same I'm going back later this year. Was there last year but a friend past away and I had to run home. I only got to film one station, Santa Clara.
Many of those cars are in service since since opening day 1985 - translation those cars are over 30 years old (about the average lifespan of a train car).
There were train expansions planned but never went through.
BTW - Dj Hammers a new train line is currently under construction (Brightline Trains) running on the FEC tracks starting from Downtown Miami going North & end in Orlando. Ft. Lauderdale - Palm Beach section will open soon with Ft. Lauderdale - Miami opening late summer & it will be a while before Palm Beach - Orlando section opens.
Also Tri-rail may be splitting on the south end & some trains are going to Downtown Miami instead of MIA (same station as the Brightline Train.
Honestly I didn't even know this existed. Great video!
+Aidan Matson Thanks dude! Glad you enjoyed!
I remember when this video was first posted. Fast forward 4 years and I've finally gotten my rides on these, but I think it's time for an updated video with the line now 100% new Hitachis! (Except weekends ofc)
Well it's been a few months now since the Budd cars have been used in revenue service so it seems like they're done sadly.
I hope the Hitachis are quieter
LOVE those motor sounds!
Miami won't be getting an extension to the Metrorail.Instead they got suckered into another busway.Yes folks ,the 1.5 billion dollars Miami Dade collected for the metrorail will not go for metrorail expansion. Most of the people who are affected are black ,Perrine,Goulds ,Florida City ,Homestead,Cutler Ridge. Up north ,up 27th ave ,all the way to Miami Gardens ,all the way to the county line.Suckered again...........Great Video.
At least they give you Beethoven's 5th Symphony on the station speaker system !!
Fr
Only on one of the stations (Brickell), yes they do. They still use it as of 2024 🙌
Lmfao. I never understood it. When I was young I would hear it when “another train was approaching” in the same lane but really wasn’t. Felt like they played it like a joke.
Reminds me of TTC's former H5's, with the buzzing.
And very similar to the 3000-series Breda before rehab and 4000-series Breda on the Washington Metro.
Brought back memory's! thanks for posting!
big much needed expansion coming soon
Not soon 2040 To be completed :P
The Budd cars have since been retired. The only Universal Transit Vehicles left in service are at Baltimore Metro SubwayLink; however they are also about to be replaced.
It sounds like the NYC subway system now!
So is a LOT of the New York Subway system. Yes, they have elevated, above ground, open-air subways there. Go figure.
I was born in the 2000s and I've seen a footage in 1984 that the Metrorail is filled with rich middle-class Americans that live far and loves using Metrorail to avoid traffic in I-95 and US1 which were happy times but now, security that doesn't do their job when a person is being threatened or robbed which happened to me, drug addicts, poor conditions and sanitation in the Metrorail and MDT losing money in the 2008 stock market crash and not investing in better conditions, security and new technology to replace old trains and old busses. It cost $0.25 to ride but now, it's $2.25, it's a mess and employees wasting their time and removing routes from the map which makes people unable to reach their destination is just stupid... Poor people riding and asking money from one to another is a mess.... I hate riding transit but I have to since it's the only way I can get to my School 15 miles away from Kendall to Little Havana. It would been better if I had a car, but I'm poor and I don't have a driver license.
A few years ago a major hurricane blew the tracks off of part of the elevated structure. The Metrorail was out of operation for a month or so while they made repairs. Other than that the structure has withstood the weather well.
While the cars have only three doors, they are the same width as IND/BMT cars. You must have filmed during off hours. IIRC, they run 6 or 8 car trains during peak hours.
I’m enamoured by these trains
Them trains look like the Baltimore subway trains!!!!
darnell899 “...THOSE trains...”!
It's because they are actually the same trains. Miami and Baltimore were building their rapid transit systems around the same time, so to save money they teamed up and bought the same Budd trains in bulk, just with different color schemes.
@@jg-7780 aaahh no wonder
@@jg-7780 Wait? Budd is still in business. I know here in New York, the MTA have not brought Budd train cars since the 1980's, with the last being for the MTA Metro North.
@@amazing50000 No, those subway trains were bought in the 80s, before the company went bankrupt
Love it thanks for going there!
+HD Gaming Glad you enjoyed! It's a very different kind of system from NYC.
Never knew Miami had a rail system (guess I need to travel more often)....except for the sliding doors....these cars remind me of the Chicago 2200 series cars
I've lived in Miami my whole life and have only ridden the Metrorail twice. It's not nearly as convenient as simply driving.
fox_198 the only time it’s convenient, and I mean the only time, is if you’re going to the airport from brickell or if you’re a student at the university of Miami. Otherwise it’s useless, generally.
that's the idea behind american public transit. to use a car
for people without cars, though, it's probably very convenient.
They should have expanded the line out farther South, and also have it go West!
That metro is actually louder than the MBTA rapid transit subways in Boston!
Except where the train has to go around a sharp bend inside the tunnel. But still, the Miami Metrorail is usually LOUDER than the MBTA in Boston!
Man I miss Miami not only that if go again I defiantly wanna ride Miami metro.
+Bmendez378 The Miami metro is a lot of fun to ride. I'd suggest doing it on a weekday when frequencies are higher.
They'll be getting new cars soon.
Just bring it to south beach. And Miami will have one of the best in the world.
THE BANDIT THE BANDIT i agree. build a line going from little havana to the abandoned station in government center, then make it go over the macarthur causeway and end it in south beach.
@@blahblah24681357 that would have been AWSOME!! That way you could avoid the headache that is driving and parking on the beach!!
@@Carlos-nq7upnot to mention it would've similar the A and the rockaway park shuttle train lines in queens ny since they go the beach as well.
These cars are in great shape. Kinda shame that they're gonna get replaced.
geofftech if you were to see the cars now out of the 136 Budd cars we had about maybe 50-56 are still running the rest are no good at all the county wasted the money on nonsense instead of overhauling these cars like they were suppose too
And I'm pretty sure some of these cars have been retired now it's a shame to see these cars go to waste and the new cars we're getting aren't going to last no where near as long as our Budd cars did
The county is taking parts off of those trains that are not available for service to try and keep those trains that are running now from suffering the same faith
This is what happens when you have warm weather trains last longer and have to be overhalled less
These sound the same as Baltimore BUDD cars, and the WMATA 4000 series
The metrorail should be extended to ft.lauderdale & west palm beach.
That’s what the Tri-Rail does. Lol
Tri rail do that
i never knew Miami had a metro train! or any part of Florida really for that matter! i just assumed they had commuter trains or Amtrak. its sure not well known/mainstream like lets say the Chicago CTA,NYC subway,BART train, etc im guessing.
Soon to be replaced in late 2016 to Railcars from AsnaldoBreda
+John Gamble That was why I made sure to get a lot of footage of the old cars here.
John Gamble I wish you good luck with Ansaldo-Breda trains... This not work fine in Madrid, Spain.
Hitachi took over the production of the new cars.
Would love to visit miami
Shawn Afshar Me too but at less I've got the Gold Coast which is like Miami.
Sadly those cars are now retired. July of last year was the last time they were in passenger service
They use the same cars as The Baltimore Metro
Northbound on southbound track they gotta be quick
You do Miami too? wow! I have taken this train before but it's not the same as NYC it doesn't have that city vibe or pride.
how?
Hi @djhammerstrains Do you charge to use your footage for a public agency project.
Never been refurbished you say? Funny thing is, the MTA did refurbished the R32's and removed the roll signs on the front of the R32. In your opinion, what would you prefer on the front of the R32 Rollsign or a normal destination sign that we have now?
+ProStealthSniper Productions I would definitely prefer the rollsign setup on the R32s pre-overhaul! Everyone is entitled to their own however, I'm sure others like the current Flipdot sign on the R32s.
Bring back the budd:(
Huh, I actually really like the look of those cars! But are they efficient?
The old units sounded like German U-Bhan trains
Great video, I like the distinct sound the propulsion motors make when accelerating. Does the system use ATC or ATO?
+Kane The system uses ATC. The sound the propulsion system makes is from the DC chopper that controls the amount of power going to the motors.
+Dj Hammers Yep, I recognize the 273 Hz buzz.
I used to ride that train
Those stripes remind me of R42
They are the same kind of cars used in Baltimore
+TrainSounds Yup! Very well-made cars from the Budd company.
Wow I haven't caught the train in a while, it used to be southbound and northbound.
+wynwoodrican78 It was a lot of fun to ride!
+Dj Hammers I remember when they first opened my grandfather took me for a train ride it was so much fin
+wynwoodrican78 *fun
+wynwoodrican78 Oh awesome! I really enjoyed riding this. The train was very fast.
The old day
These cars sound and look like Hawker-Siddely cars from Toronto.
Yeah, both use DC choppers in their propulsion systems.
Yes but can they do a vertical take-off?
@@DJHammersTrains AGREED THESE ARE LIKE THE H5s
nice
They are raggedy af now!! I hate them. They have roaches on them. Smh. The new blue ones are way better.
Are those chopper-controller cars?
"Yeah, both use DC choppers in their propulsion systems."
quoting DJ hammers from other comment.
Kinda sounds like the r32 brakes
in desperate need of expansion.
Agreed!!
Yes, I agree. Should have expanded the Metrorail line years ago. Traffic in Miami Dade County is HORRIBLE!!!
y only 4 cars now ... anybody knows ???
Jason Williams size of the city
That footage is AKA all stations are evaculated byCREEPER 125 minecraft HD and by the roblox death sound offffffffffffffffffffffffff!
just about 6sec between doors-close and departing acceleration grrrrr
+Hobo G yeah, long dwell time.
they're trying to find money for much needed expansion now in 2017
Sucks that they will be replaced in couple of years. If only they maintained them properly. $326.4 million dollars could've been better used to fix the bad parts of Miami. They only care about the tourists and the people of the south and east coast.
+Saosin3333 That's why I made a point of getting footage of these cars while they're still around.
+Dj Hammers It makes me sad, I've ridden on them since I was little and to see them go...
What you mean replaced ????
Since when has there ever been a Miami metro rail system?
+hockeyboss 689 This system was built in the 1980s.
You dumb super late like 84 I think either 1980-1984 you even see it in movies like bad boys 1
These are retired metro cars now :(
2ed
Wtf is it northbounds 🚊 ride soundbounds track
Its northbound train will arrive on the southbound track
fast
miami train go
Why would they build a system in a city that barely has 350000 people? There's nothing really there that would suffice a system of this compared to cities like Chicago or New York who have a real population census and of course Jacksonville Florida doesn't even have anything like this and their tree tied bigger
have you been to Miami?
The Miami metro area has over 6 million people, and has terrible traffic
@@jg-7780 no, its more like Million. 349 thousand isnt much to call a big city. And yes been there. Not impressed
Literally the first paragraph on Wikipedia for Miami: The Miami metropolitan area is home to 6.1 million people, the second-most populous in the southeastern United States and the seventh-largest in the nation.
@@jg-7780 hows this possible with low city population?
