This is one of those songs i will practice for a year until i get it down. But the skills picked up through this song will help me with countless others, and this is lightyears harder then any song on the radio. Thanks for the great vid!
Awesome once again mate - taking the song apart for us. SRV isn't easy, man was a natural, frightened Clapton first time he played with him and this song is a book on Texas blues and his approach. Many thanks
Thanks dude, sadly I'll never play with the flare of SRV and yes I also read that about Clapton. It's very difficult to pull these things apart as SRV would have played it differently every time. It's more about getting the technique down and making it your own thing. Thanks for the comment, happy strumming.
I am so happy i found this man i will sub because of this and i am an beginner and idc how long it takes after i learned a bit of strums and few songs i got bored and me guitar is bad 50$ but thx to you i have determination and a goal for myself. I am practicing more than ever untill my fingers hurt then i stop for the day plz keep on the vids and I wish you a great life becuase that's what you have given me i meant it man (sowry for making an essay)
Here is my best teacher! I learned a lot from your videos. I made this lesson about 2 years ago and since that I am still playing this song! I love it!
You know...Im really thanks to you Lee John Blackmore, i have been watching and learning songs and licks by your videos and now im mastered Rock,Metal,Blues and some Country by your tutorial👍👍👍❤ I like you man!! Hope we can meet together
I dont ever comment on videos but this lesson is Incredible thank you so much I love this song but thought it was gonna be a long time b4 I could play this but thanks to you I have managed to learn over half of it in about 30 min (slowly of course) but I can play it, also thank you very much for teaching alot of the songs i want to learn acoustically I have found my new favorite youtube channel!
Your actually the best jeez.love your attitude and I always come to your channel as you really go into detail with these lessons and I am a fast learner so I nail it all thanks to you.Doing this on my brand new squier 50 classic vibe 🙂
Well after all this practice I can nail it, WITHOUT a pick! but it's quiet and can't quite get those vibrant sounds, next up, learning alternate picking QQ. Thanks again! haha!
Good lesson dude! The timing on the turnaround is a sod. That’s the thing. That’s what makes the tune. It’s really simple for fingering just timing. Amazing how blues goes from a simple rhythm to really critical timing or else it sounds gash
I am only through minute 6 of this tutorial, but I wanted to say THANKS. You definitely have a knack for teaching, especially for people like me who have no patience for formal music lessons and want to learn by playing music they've been listening to for decades. I've spent a lot of time in recent months on the ShutUp&Play tutorials, which are fabulous and get as many as 1,000,000 views. Your Pride and Joy tutorial is every bit as enjoyable and instructive, and in time you'll get your million views as well. Please keep it up.
Thank you for taking the time out to write a really great comment, I really appreciate your feedback and I'm so happy these videos are working out for you. I don't always get nice comments but it's ones like this that spur me on to continue uploading. I myself am self-taught and couldn't afford lessons when I began my journey, I would have loved any help I could get and think UA-cam is a great resource for learning! So, thank you ! for supporting me and sharing your thoughts and I wish you all the best with your journey. Happy strumming! LJ
Just a quick note to say that I just finished the tutorial, and ran through the song 10 times from beginning to end. Awesome! I turned 51 last week, been playing for a little over 6 months, and I can't believe that I can play a slow but surprisingly accurate Pride and Joy. Now it's just a matter of playing it 1,000 times more to gain some fluency and speed. Many thanks again! What an awesome birthday present, it has brought me pride and joy indeed.
This is great news and the reason why I make tutorials ! Congratulations ! Make sure you mix it up and play different things every day, age has nothing to do with learning, I teach a guy that is 74 !! Great work and keep going ! L
you're the one the best whatever thanks a lot !!!keep going soon i will learn all your tutorial songs i will feel so made if there is no more tutorial bro !!!!
Thanks De ga ! I've changed it a bit to make it easier but this should help you :guitaralliance.com/riff-o-matic/private/private/riff-a-day/august_05/pride_and_joy/stevie_ray_vaughan-pride_and_jo.pdf
That turn around lick at the end i have been doing wrong the last three yrs cuz i gave up several times and now back at it and now i remember why i gave up along time ago is cuz everyones doing youtube videos of it and teaching it different. At 9:25 where you hit the a string open before walking down from 2nd fret to first on A string anyways before hitting that A string open i saw in other lessons telling to hit the open d string right before that. So my timing is always off when trying to play along to srv version, and im just not good enough to grasp it by ear yet. I want to finally nail this part but its so frusteratimg when people are teaching it differently but the weird things is is thatbwhen they do it it sounds right but when i do it i feel like somethin is off, anyways thanks for the lesson.
Thanks for the feedback, I'm not sure what point you're making but SRV never plays the same thing twice, its always a feel thing, of course everyone's version will be different.. comparing tutorials wont help you improve very rapidly. Work on your technique it's a standard blues turnaround, there are plenty of other examples out there, be patient and develop your ear. I honestly couldn't tell you if my version is accurate at all but it sounds close therefore I can enjoy playing the tune. Dont look too closely and stuff otherwise you'll miss the bigger picture.😉🎸
I've only been learning the last few days, but it seems everyone else's guitars are really easy to play lmao, then I'm sat here and I literally have to force the string into the fret to get the right note. My fingers are killing me, Any tips?
Your fingers are soft when you first start to play, you need to keep playing for a few weeks before they start toughening up, the first week they'll be sore but then fine. Make sure your strings are new and your guitar is setup correctly, don't try and attempt to do it yourself if it needs adjusting, take it to a professional. Good luck 😉👍🎸
@@leejohnblackmoremusic Thanks man! Appreciate the speedy reply. I'm eager to learn more for sure! I've got the melody down, just need to clean it up :) God bless!

This was a great lesson, but I've got to say, I feel that you left the verse chords out. Listening to the track everything is right on point until he gets to the verse and the song leaves me. What is he playing during the chorus/verse. Thanks, mate!

SRV hits almost all the strings on the rhythm. He pushes down on the notes and mutes the other strings. It is a hard technique but makes it easy. It is Texas Blues shuffle and 3/4 time. Watch him play it live on MTV UA-cam.
Stevie Ray Vaughn Pride And Joy Live Unplugged on MTV. It is on UA-cam. He uses a twelve string and watch how he mutes with his left hand while playing the Blues rhythms. When I first learned it. I did the same and only hit the notes but something was missing? So I learned the shuffle and saw this video. Hope iT helps? Peace and keep playing.
Warren Mccoy dude! right at the beginning, in the big coloured text, it clearly says "in E standard" you must be joking with me😂! Yes dude it's in standard tuning. If your guitar is in standard tuning and it sounds the same when you play along you're on to a winner 😉good luck
Oh nice! Sorry if you said that in the beginning, I must've missed it. I was gonna play along with Stevie Ray's studio recording of it and I was like "waaait." lol!
This is one of those songs i will practice for a year until i get it down. But the skills picked up through this song will help me with countless others, and this is lightyears harder then any song on the radio. Thanks for the great vid!
It's not about what you play, it's how you play them. A great musician can give life to anything he plays.

Buddy. You got to hit all the strings on the Blues rhythms. You mute the strings with your left hand. Good job, but try it. It is a hard technique.
Also he does a constant strum downward and up in a circular motion. Once you start doing it. You will get it. It is pure genius and that was SRV.
