Absolutely! I wonder if they could do a sound guide from Dave. One would download an app, go to designated locations and automatically hear Dave's stories through headphones :)
Seattle in the early 90's was the coolest place on Earth. The music, the movies, the TV shows, the sports teams. Seattle had magic back then. It's still a great place but cant compare to back then. Truly magical.
I agree. I visited in 2004 summer and you could tell that the Magic you’re speaking of was definitely there in the 90s. I wish I had been able to visit like 10 years earlier. Still, it was a beautiful trip. Also loved the areas north of Seattle.
💙🦋💙As my son said to me one time: We were in Washington State before it was “cool”.... I am proud to be from a progressive state - or rather from the progressive half of the state💙🦋💙
The way Dave Grohl told his story, you can feel it. It's like he's not endorsing a city or whatever. It's like he's talking to you personally. Amazing person. And yes, Seattle is great.
I lived in Seattle from 1996-2005. Worked for gaming companies as a 3D artist. I started listening to more and more grunge rock and my son was in some hard rock bands. I filmed his shows and got to check out the Seattle vibe. It does become part of your DNA. Loved hearing this story.
I love listening to his stories! You can see he really cherishes those memories. I would love to see Seattle someday! Thanks Virginia Grohl for investing that $120 bucks----you changed the history of music with that decision....one so many of us will forever be grateful for !
This dude has lived the ultimate life as a musician. Toured the world by the time he was 20. Joined a band that was primed to be one of the best ever and achieved total respect as a musician. Then a second chance & has again got great success & has jammed with almost everyone anybody would ever want to jam with. And I heard he's worth 200 million.
I absolutely love this! I lived in downtown Seattle right after high school in 1992. This was so the vibe. Very grungy, Starbucks had barely started up downtown. It was very small town vibe. Walking around downtown with a coffee in the middle of the night, going from basement to basement socials. Birkenstocks and flannels. Lol Oh God! Brings me back! And the rain on the cement. I called it a cement jungle because of all the foliage yet roads and sidewalks everywhere. The lights of the city at night made you think about your life. And just being able to afford a salad ha ha. That was a luxury. I walked pikes street market and remembered getting a croissant and thought this is the life! Oh and newspapers in Seattle were dated a day ahead. That always threw me off. Totally different world. Now, it’s a nice place to visit, but I’d never go back. The rain gets to you.
It's not a matter of Seattle taking Dave back, it's when he'll be coming home. Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, etc. all defined what made Seattle cool while I was growing up. We need grunge and the Sonics back. #makeseattlecoolagain
Louise Egan from April to September Seattle is a different place weather wise...it's beautiful... you'll see the sun almost every day. Just great weather during that time
Kurt was a force of nature, and his departure was both untimely and definitely palpable. NIrvana's fame had a momentum of its own, and it's only natural to revisit those places and experiences to try to reach some sort of understanding. You had a real connection with your appreciative fans and hugely influenced the rock scene, which is a great tribute.
I visited Seattle twice in the last two years and have fallen in love with the city. Watching Dave just makes my love of the city greater. I can't wait to live there.
He is such a great storyteller... man.... we all can sit down and listen for a hours!! I saw all his documentary and this is one of the best!!! He is my hero! Always!
Love this SO much... his narrative encapsulates all of us PNW '80s kids who explored Seattle in our fearless 20s, and ate that city for breakfast on the regular. We loved, watched, and supported his (and all the other) up and coming bands that pumped the blood into the heart of Seattle: grunge tunes, and the love that came with it. What an epic, epic adventure, and a killer time to grow into ourselves. Thanks, Dave. #NailedIt #MuchoLove
you American guys who loved music should know Nirvana made a big deal worldwide. Nirvana changed everything in this small country's culture(South Korea rock scene). for more than 25 years still Nirvana make a big effects to the world. Now many rock fans here find FF and Giant in the Trees. Seattle you know marketing way.
Amazing confluence of story telling and production. This is a wonderfully produced video. Time to up my game. Darn! Great job to whomever put this together.
I loved hearing Dave’s story. The joy in his eyes when reflecting on his time in Seattle and with Nirvana is evident. Btw, thank you, Mrs. Grohl, for the advice and money you gave to your son that day! 🤗🤗
This was a great video, thanks Dave! His love for his adopted city is palpable! 😍 Wish I'd have followed my gut when I was 25 and moved to Seattle in the mid-80s!
Lived there for 25 years. The Seattle he's describing, the Seattle from the past is long gone. It's a completely different city now and in many ways, not for the better. It had a vibe and a personality in the past that has been lost. The soul of what Seattle used to feel like is just gone and it's sad.Instead of neighborhoods with character, like Ballard, it's all just been hipster-ized and looks like any other west coast city like San Francisco or Portland. Such a bummer.
Well and Portland the same story..There was a writing somewhere in portland that said, "Portland used to be cool" and bumper stickers saying, make portland shitty again. AH, to have Seattle and Portland back and those temperatures back ha..damn
I would like to visit, and live there for a period of time. The only thing that makes me apprehensive is the lack of sun, but I want to go back to playing music, and hang out/jam w my heroes...
Born and raised in Seattle and it's not a matter of us taking you back Dave, you've always been welcome!! It's about when you'll come home. I can't wait to see you at safeco in September! I've literally travelled the world to see you guys but haven't yet seen you at home. Saw you guys at Fuji rock and I went to London but it was the cancelled wembley show after you broke your leg
Amazing video ! Feels like I’m sitting in front of him. ❤what a great soul. Thank you Dave Grohl for the memories and all of your beautiful music. #nirvana#foofighters♥️
There are certain people that I just love listening to talk. Dave Grohl is at the very top of that list. A brilliant, thoughtful & engaging storyteller. Who knows how to keep his stories fresh & give them a vibrancy that keeps you captivated. He paints a beautiful picture when he talks, and sharing my same obsession for music keeps me coming back to him weekly in search of new interviews he may have participated in. A kickass dude, who is genuine to the core.
Many of the things he mentions is why I moved to Seattle a week after Kurt died..It was 100% different then Southern CA and at 23, exactly what I needed at the time. I only lived there a year but it was a time I will always remember. That period in time cant be re-created but it was fun- first time being out on my own, so many new friends and experiences... .....Im gonna go wear my flannel and Docs now.... im 48 now and Id love to take my kids back someday for a visit to the Emerald City someday soon..
This might be the coolest tourism campaign I've ever seen. And I'm not even a Foo Fighters fan. Whoever greenlighted Dave Grohl reminiscing about Seattle for this is a genius. And incredibly brave...
Dave Seattle will take you back any day! - Miss not having you here, not too many Seattle🎸🎶bands left here anymore. Thoroughly enjoyed your storytelling, you crack me up!😆
I hope to visit the EMP museum in Seattle one day, though I'll probably walk past nearly everything on display and go straight to see Greg Sage's guitar - if it's still there.
I went just last month. You'll be disappointed... It's called MoPop Museum now and it's more about Pop culture in general, with science fiction and Marvel comics exhibitions. Unfortunately, not much to see about the music itself or the '90s. The moment I heard something like Rihanna or Beyonce from the loudspeakers, it was the time for me to go... :(
We are in the presence of true greatness! What a humble and easygoing guy, yet full of passion and love for the music. The way he expresses himself on his past experience places us right there with him. Cool dude! Dave whenever you're in Miami let me know, we'll have a BBQ and a🍺 (Its a long shot but hey, what have I got to lose?)

Dave Grohl is such a good storyteller. You can really feel what he's saying. Great editing as well 👍
He simply shines. My good friend Emilio Bellu knows.

Exactly my thoughts. These guys were always ahead of their time.

Would love to see the whole video!!!
Watching this makes me want to have Dave as my tour guide in Seattle. That would be the most awesome tour.
Absolutely! I wonder if they could do a sound guide from Dave. One would download an app, go to designated locations and automatically hear Dave's stories through headphones :)
Man, he should make a film like that, giving us a tour of the places that mattered to him here.
I cry every time Dave tells a story about Kurt. It just breaks my heart every time.

Agreed!
Fraser Crane and his brother Niles were rather special then too ;-). Funniest show of the 90's.

If there's one movie that best encapsulates 90s Seattle, it's Cameron Crowe's Singles.
I love how he has a great relationship with his mother. His mum seems like one of the cool mums that all your friends in high school get along with.

Close to 300 million, reportedly. Couldn't ask for a nicer guy.

he means the bball team i assume since i want the sonics back too. ha
Well, you guys have legal weed now, so thats something.
West Is Best but then it's not fun anymore the thrill was to sneak around and not get caught
Then you were smoking for the wrong reasons, it seems. You smoke weed because it gives a pleasant feeling, not for adolescent rebellion.
The other drummer Dave mentioned that was playing for Nirvana at that 1990 show he attended upon arrival in Seattle was Mudhoney's Danny Peters.
Wow!!! So beautiful and heartfelt. Can't wait to go there for my first time this September. From overcast Ireland to overcast Seattle

Seattle is just amazing! And anytime I see images of Kurt and Dave I also think about the beautiful Olympia, WA.
