It seems that you does not sing the bass 1 parts in measures 19 (second verse), 32, 39 but the lower bass voice instead!

Hi everyone, can anyone explain why in a few places, usually near the end of a line, there will seem to be TWO different notes? As if the composer is offering you a choice of which note you can sing there, is that right?? Thanks antemano

Hey there! Usually pieces like this are sung by a choir, which has 4 different parts. The composer will assign some members of each section to be 1 or 2 maybe even 3 (ex. Tenor 1, Soprano 2, etc.). When these notes are sung together they are harmonized. Hope this helps

hello sir, it's 06h in France. thank you or merci pour la rendition basse. i'm quite taken that you've taken the time to give up the bass voicing. i'd like to find out what i sing. really low notes i can not touch. i suppose that i'm a baritone or tenor. not sure but i'm going to try to emulate your voice and practice. i truly love this musical marvel. thanks again, if ever you want to do the bass part for When David Heard by Tomkins, i'll be your first listener :-)

It all depends on where your voice feels the most comfortable and what part of your range you feel you could really sing in a healthy manner for a prolonged period of time! Of course we can always work on our voices and extend our range, but if the lowest notes here are unreachable, perhaps you are a baritone? Perhaps tenor. And probably some day we will do "When David Heard" -I love that piece!

@@StevenSeigart many thanks for your prompt and informative note. i am confortable in the range of a baritone and tenor. i need to be properly evaluated by a professional as yourself. I'm in lockdown in France. we have a 6pm to 6am curfew. i'm an american stuck in France. is it possible to call you and be evaluated. i would compensate you for your time as well. here's my email Lefstop@aol.com cheers william
