I have really high hopes for a basic karting 101 playlist! Please keep going! I think this will impact the people watching the most, because usually the guys who are going on youtube and learning about karting are new and beginners, and i think this is the biggest audience, people who are more veterans will seek out help other ways usually. Thanks dez!
@@PowerRepublic oh yes. I'm taking my son 14 who's subscribed also, to track since he loves racing and want to be involved seriously. We learned a lot from you about karts. Thank you for all your works and videos. Currently we have a shifter and IAME 125cc tag kart for practicing. It's lot of fun. Keep up great work, can't wait for your new videos. 👍🙏🇺🇲✌️
Thank you so much for this and any future basic videos because these help a father like myself (the learning mechanic) to help keep track of my 8 year old son (driver) kart tuned. Another video which I think would be helpfull is on fuel/oil mixing (how-to). Alot of beginners get this wrong. Thanks for your fantastic videos 👍
Hey mate, new driver from Denmark here. Just wanna let you know that all your videoes are very helpfull and of great quality! Please keep them coming 😎🏎🏁
@@PowerRepublic I am relatively new, I started back in October 2019 and am looking into getting a kart but the maintenance is my biggest worry so these videos are great!
Thank you for the video . For something as simple as changing a chain, I learnt something new today as I loosen the engine clamps rather than the engine slide plate .. I was concerned when I do this because it can misalign everything, creating a “fubar” situation if you are not careful. so I will try your way in future ..
About how often should I lube the chain at the track? Thank you! Could you guys a do a video on between session maintenance and things to check on a kart?
Good to check tyre pressure, tyre wear, spark plug if tuning, any data including engine temp and lap breakdown then mechanically the chain, wheel alignment, clean and inspect brakes & that the key components are tight like engine mounts, hubs, wheels. Setup changes also as needed throughout the day depending on how your go kart is handling - mostly around grip level and fuel mixture (soft or hard chassis setup and carburettor tune).
Hey Derek, all the best to you & thanks again for all the tips & advise. 1 of the most frustrating things I find is getting chain tension right. I have 1 of those Chain Monkey thingys & maybe it's just these Arrows (X4/X5) but I can spend half an hour turning the stopper a quarter of a turn this way, then back a little, blah blah blah, what's if wouldn't mind sharing your technique please (including which bolt to tighten on slide first - front/back) I'd be eternally grateful...
Hey Wit, thanks for the good vibes and for tuning in. we have some great videos on most of the carbies for racing engines in our library, have you checked those out?
Hey quick question, to clean do you use paper towels or a cloth? And which kind of cloth or paper towel do you use? Getting my first kart next month and thanks a lot for all the information by the way
That a hard one, can you measure the one you have already ? Otherwise it’s a bit of guess and check. The Kartshop should be able to help with a starter range. Maybe grab say a 102, 104, 106 and just test them out
Hey I just wanna say thanks you for all the videos that you have been posting they are very helpful I have recently just picked up a kart which is a margay kart with a comer k125 motor 2 stroke needs a little cleaning and possibly a new clutch is this kart any good?
Glad you like them! thanks heaps for tuning in. any kart is good enough to get you started. once you have some k's under your belt, as long as your budget is big enough, get yourself a new kart package and start rippin'
Are there any alternative no frills chain sprays I can use beside the Motul? Like something you could pick up for a fraction of the price at Supercheap?
Hey Blitz, o ring. chains last the longest. but yeah, the motul is the business for chain lube. there are other products but not sure how good they stick to the chain when it is turning hard
hey iam some what new ro karting wondering what size chain to get i tried on my mini bike chain witch is a 35 chain but was to big inhave a track magic kart with a fr125 rotax max
Hi Rob, correct , I do the chain lube just before I hit the track. 3 is normally enough to hold the sprocket on. and cause we change them regularly, it quicker if only 3.
For easy lubing while on track, drill a little hole in the chain guard at the rear end right above the chain where you can poke the little grease tube through.
Absolutely not! You must only use citrus based degreaser. But better yet… just leave the chain alone. They dont need cleaning or lubing. They are internally lubed.
Hey chris, yeah can get the chains in 2 link increments. if you did want to make your own, you can use a 'chain breaker' tool that pushes the pin out so you can remove the link. It can be done, just most people don't bother any more. that tool would be useful for 4SS karts.
Hey sand hands, that's correct, unlike a KZ or dirt bike chain, there isn't a removable link. if you did want to split the chain you would have to use the chain breaker tool, which isn't that popular these days
Disagree. On a bike you have to factor-in the swingarm such that front and rear sprocket centers and the swingarm pivot are in a straight line, then use the tightest spot as the place where you set free play. But this doesn't apply to a kart.

O Rings better for 125cc class
About how often should I lube the chain at the track? Thank you!

Hi Wyatt, it's good habit to lube it before every session. Not too much, but some all over

No grease on the new chain?
Hey Gloria,
Yeah it can be, or the sprocket(s) are stuffed. Maybe just replace the lot. Also check the sprocket carrier isn’t bent or damaged
Did you find the problem to the chain tension ?
Hi! Awesome content in your channel! One idea for video would be "Jetting and needle height setting"
Hey Wit, thanks for the good vibes and for tuning in. we have some great videos on most of the carbies for racing engines in our library, have you checked those out?
@@PowerRepublic I will take another look. Not sure I have seen needle height topic but might have just missed!
I went to order the 202 chain but all they had was the yada yada yada one, is that ok to use? ;)
that's right tough guy
Hey quick question, to clean do you use paper towels or a cloth? And which kind of cloth or paper towel do you use? Getting my first kart next month and thanks a lot for all the information by the way
I use mostly old rags. Micro fibre cloths make for great cleaning rags BTW

Any help on tire size? What do you use?
most tyres for go Akrts are controlled brand, size and compound
Hey, so 10-15mm minimum tension, what would your max be?! Thanks as always! Toronto, Canada
thanks heaps for tuning in Chris. as a general rule of thumb, 10mm mimiimim and 15mm maximum.
Sorry for such a noob question, did you do a vid on how to replace the brake disc on the rear axle ? if so can you link a vid ? thanks !

Is 219 the standard on OTK karts?
Hi mate, what are you thoughts on using O ring chains on Rotax max ? I've heard about power loss from 1 builder
hey Andrew, yeah they are excellent. I haven't been able to measure the power difference. I would say use them as they last way longer.
Are there any alternative no frills chain sprays I can use beside the Motul? Like something you could pick up for a fraction of the price at Supercheap?

hey iam some what new ro karting wondering what size chain to get i tried on my mini bike chain witch is a 35 chain but was to big inhave a track magic kart with a fr125 rotax max
219 is the number my friend. call your local go kart shop and get a 108, 110, or a 112 length chain
kid kart - how often do i need to clean the chain?
every day is best.
I didn't see you Lube the Chain before you installed it? Also why use only three fasteners on the sprocket instead of six?

Hey Mario, it make the change of the sprocket a little quicker I guess. and lighter.

yeah she's a tough one

would wd40 work for cleaning the chain
Yeah I’m a rag and wipe it down
What do you think about the current f1 season? Who do you support?
I reckon its been good. I'm right behind Lando, he's such a legend. Also too, be good to see the Ferrari's dominating.
can I use brake cleaner to clean the chain ?
yes, but better to use WD or degreaser sprayed onto a rag, then drag the chain through the rag.
Absolutely not!
You must only use citrus based degreaser. But better yet… just leave the chain alone. They dont need cleaning or lubing. They are internally lubed.
What nice air cooled engine is that?
Hey Bjorn, that is a Vortex Mini Rok 60cc
Why didnt you just split the chain link??
The chains don't have one, it prevents the chain from failing under strain from the engine. That's why you have to loosen the engine to remove it.
Hey chris, yeah can get the chains in 2 link increments. if you did want to make your own, you can use a 'chain breaker' tool that pushes the pin out so you can remove the link. It can be done, just most people don't bother any more. that tool would be useful for 4SS karts.
