Bill was more quick witted ! Eddie always came off worse - he never learned - we laughed at his ignorance. At moment showing For the Love of Ada - Jack Smethurst son in law, mum in law Irene Handle. The actors are like family, in that too - way they genuinely like each other. Ruddy in Eastenders - with his twinkling eyes toothy grin and wicked laugh. We need to be able laugh at ourselves.
Enjoy this great comedy before those who dictate what should offend us do their bit. Watched this growing up as a kid in the 70s with my Asian family, loved it then and love it now.
Born in the 80s and iv got to say it's one of my favourite comedies genuinely its lovely to go back to a simpler more relaxed decade even if I wasnt born for the next decade
Agree the '70's was a great decade to grow up in. I was only at school but have fond memories of the tv, music and being able to hang out with your mates playing football etc. No play station, computer games, i phones etc. Remember watching this and with black mates at school we could all laugh at it. The '80's were also ok, just a shame there were 3 million unemployed when I left school!
I lived around the corner from this street and can remember when there was a level crossing at the end of the road by the gas cylinder!! Imagine airing this show on TV now!!
Classic, classic, classic, to reminisce back in the day though i was only 7. To watch this again in 2021 barrel of laughs, love my childhood days & to catch up on this again is refreshing ❤️😂
I am mixed race I watched this with my granddad he loved it because it was Eddie who always ended up on the wrong end every time people who call this show racist are wrong it's not its 4 friends taking the piss out of each other or are we not allowed to laugh if we are black coloured white or mixed race crazy
John Patrick Cole not if you were Indian origin... blacks were more accepting by whites than us folks from India. I would get spat at and called paki even by black folks..
Yes, its called "humor". People today are so thin-skinned, the poor little babies. I mean, come on, some things and mannerisms that a key to black people or asian people, or indian people, or white people are funny!
I watched this series when it first came out. I'm still watching every episode I can find. Those who criticize this show either have a chip on their shoulder or no sense of humour. As everything we say and do is monitored these days, I wish I could go back to the 70s and live that fantastic decade all over again once more.
You mean go back and live in a time when you could be literally pulled by an officer beaten and yelled at for absolutely nothing because you’re black. Yeah what a wonderful time it was!! 😐
@@Barfigarfi That was disgraceful and ignorance on behalf of the powers that be, I do not condone that behaviour. Is it a coincidence that racism has accelerated so fast since we stopped watching shows like this and Mind Your Language and Till Death Do Us Part. These shows educated people that we can laugh together as well as at each other.
They were actually important shows because they were showing racists or bigots were actually morons, that was the whole idea about those characters like Alf Garnett. But racists and woke people don't get the joke because racists think they're championing racism and woke people just hear the slurs and label the shows racist so it goes over people's heads.
1 it reflected what society was like back then and 2, if you put your PC handbags away you realise that the show is actually taking the piss out of the raciest who always ends up the loser. my dad was Jamacian, when I was growing up we all used to sit and enjoy it as a family
It's one of the most anti racist shows ever made. An intelligent person knows exactly what the writer was doing. I mean tell me again, what's the title of the show ?
Eddie and Bill were good friends they just had a love hate relationship Eddie was scarred of Bill he knew when not to cross the line he would of flattened Eddie Joan gave Ed a bruiser of an eye and Bill was sent home by his mother-in-law
This would never be tolerated today. However some.people still have these outdated ideas, seems to be expressed in a much more subtle way in some instances. Sounds like a proper guy.
I am glad your dad enjoyed this show. I used to enjoy watching it as well.
At least he had a sense of humour. God bless him mate🇬🇧👍
I used to watch this as a kid, the Jamaican couple went on to star in eastenders as a married couple 😜

This was comedy in the 60s an 70s but there didn't appear to be the hatred that is rife now. I actually prefer them days to now.
Wonderful show light humour that no doubt will cause controversy in today's political arena..

Eddie what a character
The character he plays is a totally obnoxious racist even back in 1975 it wasn't acceptable..so that's BS
