  • On August 15th, 2020, five long years of work to return Northern Pacific #924 to steam paid off. The locomotive made its first public run with a single coach and diesel in tow and ran from the Northwest Railway Museum's Conservation and Restoration Center to the Snoqualmie Depot 1.3 miles away. The locomotive will undergo additional testing before being fully restored to its circa 1908 appearance later this year.

I saw her at Railcamp Northwest 3 years ago. She looked absolutely nowhere near complete! The progress they made since then is amazing!

Thank you for this wonderful video. I was there to help move the 924 into the Conservation and Restoration Center Workshop for the restoration prossess. I put lot hours of work into it along with many other voleenters who put in way more time than I did to get it to this point. I can't tell you much of a thrill it was to be on the crew as a stocker for its first public debut! The operation was technically just a testing day, crew training and was planned to check out - or prove - all the work that had been performed up until that time.

Yes, 924 was donated to NRM (then Puget Sound Railway Historical Association) in 1969 but it ran at PSRHA as well as on the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad under lease until 1979. If you'd like to read more, NRM has a fantastic blog that covers lots of the historical information on 924.

Both are fine examples of steam! For me the history behind 924 is really interesting because it was and continues to be used closer to where I grew up and lived. No shade to the 611 of course haha.

Great question! She’s still at the Northwest Railway Museum in Snoqualmie, WA and makes excursion runs several times a year.
