Colorado this year also had an ex-Buffalo on the roster: JT Compher. There used to be a "rule" in baseball called the "2-Cubs Rule" which said if a team had more than two ex-Cubs on the roster they could never win the World Series. More a rule-of-thumb than an actual rule. The NHL's Buffalo rule is the opposite: you can't win a cup without having someone previously dumped by the Sabres.
Ever since NHL has joined ESPN it’s just been terrible. They don’t even care about hockey, like they’d rather put you on a third channel network, the only time it’s on prime ESPN is in the playoffs or the finals. When we had NBC. They didn’t care they would throw tons of NHL rivalry games on NBC. They had better commentators I already miss NBC few years later especially NBCSN!!
Even the sets for their shows at the games look cheap and hastily put together. Like they’ve pulled a card table and put a table cloth over it. So weird to see from an ESPN production.
Yeah also the announcer Sean McDonagh is terrible, he’s not for NHL, like the whole commentation and just the whole broadcast doesn’t feel like it’s NHL hockey. The old NBC theme song and everything just made it seem so natural and felt like hockey belong there and now it feels so different. In terms of being on a different. It’s crazy how I broadcast can just change the perception of a game like that especially in the beginning like of the nbc theme. Everyone used to get nostalgia from that
22 Avs were one of the best teams I ever witnessed. The only games they really got outplayed in were game 2 against the Blues and game 3 against the Bolts.
@@Dutchovenderlinde Yup exactly. I think game 6 against the Blues was the only game where the Avs might have gotten away with a win. Outside of that, they dominated their opponent in approximately 85% of the games.
Look at it this way, Tampa Bay, was the first team in, nearly, forty seasons to win, double-digit, Playoff Series, in a row, even the, Oilers, Penguins, and, Red Wings, couldn't do that, I think that it's highly, unlikely, that it ever happens again.
This was more of an exciting year for me then the Panthers winning the cup this year. First playoff series win in almost 30 years. I lived an entire life between 1996 and 2022 to see that. The come backs were insane. Down 4-0. Nope, no issues, win 6-5. Down 6 goals. Oh boy, this one is over. Nope another come back. It was the first truly fun season in a long time with almost no pressure. Being in the league leaders in team points and player points. That doesn't happen in FL. Local media was forced to start covering them. The Panthers fans didn't have to hide and be made fun of by the other sports fans in the area. Tickets were still cheap. The Tampa series was frustrating in many ways. But experience and growing needed to take place. That play by Weegar at the end of the game, made no sense. The crying about the no calls got tiring. Then to trade superstars the following season after the Panthers best ever point total season is insane.
I will remember this as the year I went to a Coyotes game at GRA. Such a fun time and I was nervous I was the only Leafs fan there and turned out it was 70-30 Leafs fans.
My favorite year watching hockey! The best run I've ever watched. The Avs were the definition of a juggernaut. I knew once they got past St. Louis that they were going to win the Cup! Hope there's another one in the near future!!
Additionally, this was the season that finished the Blues off for good, I never believed they had any, possibility, of becoming a, Dynasty, this year, merely, sped matters up, period.
The rise of Igor Shesterkin and some very lucky high picks brings my Rangers right back into contention. This was a very fun run to the Conference Finals. Up 2-0 against Tampa gave me false hope for a Stanley Cup run.
this was a fun season to watch as an Avs fan, for obvious reasons. wasn't even that excited when they won the cup at the end of it all; it felt like an inevitability after how much they dominated the league that season, especially once they defeated the blues in the second round. you could tell they were hungry and willing to bury every team in their way.
I was so damn excited. That game 6 was so intense and that 3rd period felt like it would never end. at the same time, though, that period was perhaps the most incredible period of defensive hockey I've seen.
Unfortunately, this season, ultimately, proved that their uncanny ability to luck their way out of, self-inflicted, wounds, is finally at an end, and, instead, of rebuilding, they decided to double down on a squad that's obviously been regressing, since, 2018.
